The Dairy in Clapham remains one of my best meals in London to date, so when I heard Robin Gill was opening a restaurant in Bethnal Green, I knew I had to try it out ASAP (this had the added benefit of their soft launch promo of 25% off the bill and a complimentary cocktail to boot)! Ambiance: Tucked under one of the railway arches on paradise row, the space is perfect. Bright, airy, lots of greenery (particularly around the bar), quirky ish lighting fixtures and basic furniture give it a casual and relaxed vibe. Food: We opted to order a la carte instead of the tasting menu and were pleasantly surprised to still receive the amuse-bouche (pea purée with radishes and homemade vegetable crisps) and bread (worth a mention because it follows the same format as the dairy namely being an incredible homemade sourdough served with mind-blowing butter - I think it was a smokey whisky butter in this instance). Food wise we went for a crab dish (served in a light and refreshing foam), venison tartare, heritage tomatoes with an eel jelly (my favourite dish! The plate looked so summery and vibrant and the eel jelly was such an unexpected twist), and finally a fish and steak for the mains (I found the mains a tad overly rich and a bit heavy generally). Finally for dessert we went for the apricot tart with milk ice cream (too sweet for my liking but with 20% less sugar, it would have been excellent). Other: Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing and there was a pretty good drink selection. I'm not sure I'd go back until they change their menu since we ordered half of it but I'd definitely return a few months down the road! read more

This was my first tasting menu in a long long time. Like more than a decade. And the cool thing is that I tried a bunch of things I'd not normally try thinking I'd hate them, and they were great. Bad thing is the other stuff was not so great. In short I'd have done much better picking at random than picking the things I'd thought I'd like. So recommendations.... The chocolate creme brulee. The apple sorbet. The pigs head terrine. And the staff, they were lovely, I mean lovely service, I didn't eat them. My only complaint is that we didn't find out about the set lunch (£25 for four courses) till at the very end when we paid. We just got the a-la-carte menu and the £45 tasting menu. So if you have less than three hours for lunch (unlike me mid-vacation) then ask for the set lunch, they may not tell you about it. read more

What can I say? This was a fantastic find! We had been out the night before and we nursing a pretty serious hangover and were in need of a decent brunch. We were originally heading to the restaurant next door but found Paradise Garage a little more appealing, this was probably due to the fact that they had a lot more seating available. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and found ourselves a great table half way inside and outside of the venue. I ordered the Pork belly and a large latte. The food arrived, and although a bit of a small portion, it was incredible! The meat was so tender and the coffee was exactly what I needed to kick start the day. I did have to order some additional toast but this was real cheap and helped finish off a fantastic brunch. We will most certainly be back for more. read more

Tucked behind a petrol station, paradise garage offers nice new british cuisine in a nice atmosphere. We took the tasting menu and although the dishes were good, 2 weeks later I have no recollection of what I ate. That's what happens with restaurants that try a bit too much. They combine a lot of different ingredients but you lose the simplicity of the meal and it's a bit disappointing. The wine selection was very good though. I think it's better to juste go for a lunch. If you go for dinner and are more than 4, your only option is the tasting menu (£100 with wine and service) read more

The lunch menu is great value, a choice of 4 dishes (1 snack, 1 veg, 1 meat or fish, and 1 dessert) for £25 - I was pleasantly surprised we were offered this on a Saturday as I thought it was a mid-week only offer. The food was very well presented and on the whole very good, with some stand out dishes (the lambs heart, which I wasn't expecting to like, was delicious and the pheasant for two was amazing) and some not quite so good. The portions were also much bigger than I expected. Sometimes I find with sharing plate style dishes I'm left hungry at the end of the meal but I was very full after the lunch menu. We were also brought an amuse bouche and some sour dough bread with homemade butter at the start, which I though was a nice touch. I was a huge fan of the smoky butter, with a hint of whiskey flavour, although my boyfriend wasn't too keen (he thought it was slightly bitter). The service was also great, and they let us drink our own wine for £10 corkage. We were originally going to eat elsewhere (which had free corkage) but changed plans at the last minute and so I think the waitress was being kind to us - possibly because we were out celebrating my partner's birthday. It was the Sunday after the night before and brunch was calling. Resident looked too busy so we decided to give this place a go. I've never noticed it before but I've been missing out. Their brunch menu wasn't large but there were four or five things on there I couldn't choose between. Indeed, to my hungover mind it was quite a struggle! Fortunately it was such good value (£6-£9 per main) that I could afford to buy two sides to go with my main which honestly I would recommend as the portions weren't huge. The food was absolutely delicious and my boyfriend and I were both delighted by what we ordered, though he had to get some extra toast to bulk his up a bit. A very hip place to vit at the moment!! I took my wife here for a birthday dinner and we were both very pleased. They have a choice of meunus but we chose the tasting option, several courses accompanied with drinks. The food was really good and made up of English in season ingredients, well prepared and reasonable portions. The accompanying drinks were ok, but I would recommend grabbing some wine that you will actually like as some of the drinks arent for everyone. Venue is nice but some of the seats are undesirable, we had to ask to be moved from our original seats that were too close to the window. Super friendly waiters and nice environment. Maybe a little too bright. I tried the rabbit, and it was very good. For dessert, I recommend the beer ice cream, it was super nice as well! Too bad the kitchen closed at 4pm and opened only at dinner time. read more

I've heard so much about The Dairy but it's too far west for me so when they opened this place in Bow I had to go. We went for lunch for my husband's birthday. It is very quiet on a Friday lunch being sort of out of the way a bit but don't let that worry you as the food is fab. We decided not to go for the tasting menu (we aren't huge fans of fish..though big fans of seafood...and there were a few too many mackerel type ingredients in the taster menu). Portion sizes were quite small but they told us it's really about getting to share & try several plates so we did as told. At the end of the meal I would say portions were perfect especially as we still had room for dessert. And my dessert was AMAZING. Baked figs - it was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. This means I might need to assess how far west The Dairy is....I think it'll be worth it! read more

My evening at Paradise Garage totally lived up to my expectations, plenty of fresh flavours and good ingredient combinations, all nicely presently in a simple and eye catching way. Sometimes less is really more, the cooking isn't overly complicated or trying too hard and The Dairy/ Paradise Garage's formula is just spot on, in fact I think it is one of the very best modern British restaurants in the East End and I would highly recommend it if you live in East London but are seeking a quality trendy restaurant without wanting to travel to central London. read more

This place is really hip and I loved the atmosphere here. All the waiters were extremely friendly and I felt at peace here. The food and wine was great. We had the tasting menu which was a great journey through all of their food. I especially enjoyed the pigeon and beetroot. read more

Tried Paradise after a couple of fun evenings at next door Mother Kelly's. It's a beautiful spot (though lacks some of the atmosphere where we sat upstairs). We were a touch disappointed with the food, hence 3 stars. The tapas style wasn't so well suited to the dishes on offer. We felt like we were simply served smaller versions of normal starters & mains and expected to improvise on how best to share them. The food itself seemed fussy, emphasising complexity and variation over flavour. On the plus side, it turned out cheaper than expected. £35 each inc service and a bottle of wine between 4 though as is my usual rule with tapas, we ordered a little less than recommended. read more
