I wanted a clean, modern, and somewhat quirky and cute feel but I didn't have too clear of an image in mind. I wanted casual invites-- nothing too wordy or traditional, and I couldn't find anything pre-designed on the web that I truly loved. I am SO happy I came to May. She worked with me every step of the way to create an invitation that my fiance and I can truly call "ours". Even when we got the first round of designs, my fiance and I couldn't believe how awesome they were-- it was really hard to choose just one design! From there, May worked with me to tweak the final design to make something truly special. Since our wedding is on Oahu, she used a map of the island as the invite background! She then designed these cute little modes of transportation (a boat, plane, bus, etc) making a B-line for our wedding site on the west side of the island, marked with a heart. The text is clean and the wording is simple and straightforward. I brought in my wedding color fabric swatches and we carefully matched the colors to her pantone swatches so the invites would coordinate perfectly. It's so AWESOME! I had a vision of how I wanted my RSVP card to look like while I was out eating Korean food with my fiance. So I just scribbled it down on a napkin, took a picture with my phone, and sent it to May. It was totally sloppy and messy. But somehow, May was able to take that little bit of information and create an RSVP card exactly the way I wanted, right away. I just picked up my invitations from May yesterday and I couldn't be happier! The paper feels amazing, and the invite is nice and heavy. The colors really pop and the finished product conveys the exact feeling I was looking for. I know that this invite is going to set the mood for my wedding, and I am so excited! May is such a pleasure to work with. She always responds to questions via phone or email quickly, and we met several times to make the invite just right. She is very professional and, of course, incredibly creative! She worked within my budget and time frame, always willing to make last minute changes and adjustments. They also added nice rubber trim to the inside of each window, so it mates up better with your windshield, etc. I didn't even know they were gonna do this extra step. Really quality work. He has no time limit for each shoot, but I found him to be the one to guide my poses because I'd never done professional headshots before. It was great because I didn't feel rushed and as we did more and more shots I got to build my confidence. He employed my friend to do things to keep me smiling in the background and he hooked up music of our choice to his speaker system. It was seriously so so fun! Tidelands is in a beautifully remodeled building with a large art gallery and a gift shop open to one and all. For my visit, they had a show of photography Project 562 by Matika Wilbur. The gift shop has an array of native message hats and tee shirts, some finely crafted clothing by native designers, books suitable for children and adults, and more gifts. Over time it may be a good place for native artists to place their work for in-person shopping. They do a large holiday crafts fair for native-made items. Tidelands has tribe facing programs, such as a studio for recording oral history as podcasts, movies, and still photography. They have several active podcasts. Many of their staff are native artists. Their work is producing out to the world material with high production quality without undue burden on the storytellers. Their own Tidelands graphics and design are compelling. Check their socials for ongoing storytelling classes, wellness programs, crafts, food, and more, with a native focus. Tidelands is sited at Western and University in Seattle at the foot of the Harbor Steps connecting it to the Seattle Art Museum Venturi Building with the Hammering Man. Nearby are many Seattle attractions like the Aquarium, piers, and the Pike Street Market. Parking is tough in that area, go by transit or pay to park. You can keep up on their programs by email and the socials. If you are in the area, stop by Tidelands, it is free!
