Unfortunately, the job was done horrendously. Based on my research, I was able to identify a ton of issues which I flagged. After back and forths with the company, and constant denial of poor workmanship - I asked them to halt the work. I contacted two roofing companies to determine if the roof was salvageable or not, and when I passed on their confirmation of all the issues, the contractors I hired continued to act as if the job was done appropriately. Eventually, they came back to discuss my issues which led to them suggesting I hire an inspector and that they would fix any deficiencies if they came up. I hired Carl based on his experience, credentials, and the level of detail and clarity he provided in our communications prior to booking the inspection. I was not disappointed. Not only did he provide a thorough report, but he also gave me tips on how to protect myself against the company putting a lien against my house in the event of me terminating the contract due to material breach. After the inspection, he responded to communications from the roofing company. Now that I'm in the process of hiring a new roofing company, he's made himself available to answer my questions about the company I'm looking to potentially hire. I originally sought to hire a roofing contractor via Yelp and sent a quote request to several companies at once. Edy responded within an hour of my posting and via messaging I shared pics of my roof, my budgetary situation and timeline. Edy acknowledged my concerns and met me at my property to better understand and communicate the reality of my roofing situation. Edy proceeded to share his findings (a roof layered with two layers of heavy asphalt shingles) and his professional advice and hesitation to lay a metal roof over the existing shingles, although doable, at this stage considering the amount of weight already bearing down onto the property's structure. His honesty and hesitancy to complete this job to merely satisfy the customer and collect a financial sum spoke volumes. He offered and I accepted, free of charge, a detailed breakdown of all material needed to complete a metal roofing project and after much negotiation with Edy, addressing the labor costs and trash removal, allowed me to better understand the magnitude of a roofing job. After some thought and citing the fact that he set an honest tone from the onset, I hired him understanding that other unforeseen structural issues could arise and upon their first day on the job site with his crew totaling 4, he in fact discovered a foam barrier placed upon the frame acting as an insulator (I have an a-frame home). Edy and I worked through the issue which resulted in additional materials and labor costs, but after detailed removal of the shingles and meticulously installing the metal sheets over insulation via wood slats, the project was completed beautifully and professionally. They hire inexperienced contractors WHY because they don't care it's all about the money and they will tell you EVERYTHING you want to hear. Steeves will leave you with a mess and you will never hear from them again. How they can be left to do this to people is beyond me.

It was a lot of tree, but the only real casualty was my gutters - knocked off both corners of the roof - and my big cedar hedge, which had a 4' wide furrow plowed through it. The insurance company sent out Dulay Roofing to repair the gutters, and they did a beautiful job. They were unable to match the profile of my 30 year old original gutters or old-school round downpipes, so it meant new gutters and downpipes all around. They went to extra effort to find material that colour-matched both, as I'd had the original gutters painted green and the downpipes painted tan. Very happy with the end result. Too bad they don't fix hedges!
