Wish they had better dispatchers. The customer service I received from Maria today was crappy. Not only do they send the driver's on break during your scheduled pick up time, but then they tell you they have a 45 minute window. They also want to argue over the phone instead of coming to a resolution. Need to hire dispatchers that have common courtesy and know when to apologize for their companies wrong or inconsiderate actions. read more

I am very dissapointed in their service and due to my medical condition and circumstances I am forced to use their service. When one submits a complant which I have done several times you get a well worded rationalized answer for each issue and they are careful to avoid the real complaints. They treat the disabled as a number and a machine with no thought to what we have to suffer through with the long stand by times coupled with the long rides (up to 3 hours) strapped in our mobility devices. Dispatchers have no problem scheduling to have you picked up and then have you driven all over Sacramento County picking up and dropping off other passengers before finally having you taken home. The way we are treated by some of the bus drivers is deplorable and nothing is done about it. I always pray and hope to get one of the nice drivers like John or Jamon who help to make the ride more tolerable with their polite manners, cheerful dispositions and knowledge of the roads and their job. Most of the bus drivers are also stressed and frustrated over how dispatch manages the routes and their passengers. Paratransit compares the disabled with the normal physically abled passengers who take the SacRT buses. Paratransit should be a service that should be more accomodating and understanding of the disabled but unfortunately to them we are just cattle being herded in and out of their buses. If they wish to align with and refer to the SacRT bus policies and their services then why should we be paying so much more money for Paratransit? I can see that there is no honest or true concern from Paratransit for their passengers. We need the service so we just have to suffer through it. read more

I work in a medical facility where my patients ride with paratransit. Everyday my patient waits over two hours in the lobby. I do not understand how this company is still in business. I call to help my patients find where their ride is, " I get that they have a time window." However it is not okay to just leave the disabled patient sitting for hours in the lobby. Also the dispatcher who takes the calls is rude and unprofessional and has no empathy for the drivers being so late. I mean I want to go and so does my patient. This company needs to rediscover the values of there company and put the people first. read more

I have a nephew that works here, but he hates the hours. They are open 365! So when you are new you get really bad days and hours to work. And I think you get all the holidays and late night shifts and most weekends. I have known a few people that has worked for Paratransit and they have all said the same thing. "Long hours, long days. I find a lot of the drivers to be pretty friendly, considering the hours they work. This company for the most part goes any and everywhere. They will take their clients to church, shopping, to their doctor appointments. You name it they pretty much cover it. Which is brilliant. Now where I find the concern is the process that the client goes thru to get a ride and then the extremely long wait to be returned back to their destination. I have seen clients wait up to 3 hours to be picked back up. They just keep calling, because it seems like and awful long time to be picked up. It seems like according to the drivers they are always short staff. Which is not a good thing, but when people don't have their own transportation they have to do what they have to do! read more

I think Paratransit is a great service. They might be a few mins late sometimes but if we need a ride there is always waiting. Paratransit gives me a sense of independence. I don't like having to ask people for rides. So for myself I have been pretty lucky, my drivers are very friendly. Maybe it's the way we approach them as well . Just dropping off someone this morning. Paratransit is 365 to my understanding. I will drop off or pick up my friend from time to time. This place is busy every time I come. They have a lot of drivers that come and goes at this facility. To my understanding UCP drivers leave out of here as well. The parking lot is not that big and with all of the employees. Parking is first come and it fills up very quickly. They also have many buses that park on their main lot so only a few employees can park there. Then they have the attached lot for all other vehicles. Theses two companies employees schedules have a 2-2 1/2 break in them every day. I guess we can call it split shifts. Four hours in am/and pm. I was told that neither company pays a lot, starting at about $10. an hour. Go figure! Paratransit picks up clients and take them to different centers around the Sacramento and surrounding areas. They also take clients to doctors appt and church, grocery shopping ect.. They are like a taxicab for disabled people and some of their insurances pay and some pay out of pocket. The one's that can afford to pay out of pocket. read more

I wouldn't ride this service if my life depended on it . Ok I call 2 days before I need a ride. They scheduled me wayyyyyy late I asked for 9:50 am they gave me 10:20 am the bus gets here with get this . No one on the bus wow why can't they schedule me earlier???????? Stupidity!!!!. Then I asked for 1:30 pm drive home they gave me 2 pm what's the deal ???! Are the dispatchers mean or just stupid. Anyone from 5 years on up will schedule better more efficient ride for everyone. This is really the worst ride service I've ever had. So I should schedule 3 weeks before I need a ride or what I still won't get to church on time ????? Pathetic!!!! With the switchover, don't seem to care at all about the riders, pick up late, return home pick up early. Dispatchers are rude and not "all that" at their jobs. Do not know how to schedule rides without wandering the drivers all over the county in a very contra-productive way. read more

So I took a van today with my client. It was van 049 (CA38849) and I have to say her customer service was horrible. She had this bad attitude and I get it we all have bad days but if that's how you represent your company then that's poor work ethic. The van was clean and the air was on and she was able to strap her in fine...But she just has very poor people skills. And it gets to me because we do this job to be there for people that need someone. Regardless if it is transporting or care-taking, and when you have a bad attitude it really doesn't make their experience enjoyable. She literally did not say a word the whole way there. Such a great service! My rides are on time, the buses are clean and the drivers are nice, especially Lee! Sometimes they get busy and have to send a Yellow Cab and I do not get as good of service with the cab drivers as I do with the Para Transit drivers. read more

I'm very disappointed with this organization. The drivers don't care about their passengers. The driver refused to wheel my Mom down the ramp that they required us to get built. Just a few days ago, my Mom needed to go to a doctor appointment. Paratransit came out and the driver stood there with his hands on his hips while my sister had a hard time backing my Mom down the ramp. My sister asked for help and almost fell while the driver said I was hoping you'd run into me so I can collect disability. This guy is a piece of work! Also, they're always late. So if you use them BEWARE! I would rate this in negative stars if it was allowed. They don't deserve 1 star even! read more

I had a horrific experience on Paratransit yesterday. I am disabled with degenerative bone disease and have limited mobility. I rarely leave home and had planned an outing to attend a movie. This is something I have not done in over 3 years. I explained to the reservation clerk that I would be in a wheelchair and needed to stay in the chair for the whole outing. I also informed her that I would be traveling with a support person. When my ride arrived it became apparent that my wheelchair was too wide to be rolled up the ramp on the small van that was sent. I suggested maybe I could try to walk up the ramp, with assistance of the driver and my support lady, and the chair could be wheeled aboard and folded. With assistance on both sides and my cane, I shakily made it onto the van and was seated in a regular seat and seat belted in by the driver. My movie was at the Century theater in downtown Sacramento on 4th Street. On the way to the theater, the driver asked me if I knew where the theater was located. I said "No, I have never been there and I have never been to this part of downtown. Once we arrived downtown, we circled the Golden One and other blocks for nearly 20 minutes, trying to locate the theater. Finally, the driver pulled down a narrow, alley, type of street and told me to get out. I did not see the theater any where in sight. She asked some passerby people where the theater was located. A man named Michael stopped and told us, we had to go up an inclined pathway, into an elevator, across a bridge and to the 4th floor. I had phoned the theater the day before and was assured the place was ADA compliant and that I could be dropped off a the door. I am very overweight and It was clear that my support lady could not push me up a hill and manage all of the other obstacles that had been presented. By this time, my move was about to start. The driver told me to get out of the van. I said, " it is too late, and this is too overwhelming for me. Please take me back home." She said she was not taking me back home and that I was going to get out of the van and wait for the next available Paratransit to come and pick me up. I told her that since my support lady and I are both senior citizens, that I did not feel comfortable waiting in this alley for up to an hour, in the cold wind, with my purse and cash making me appear to be a vulnerable target, plus, I was feeling very shaky about trying to exit the van on the ramp, now going downward, and that technically, I had made it clear that I needed to remain in my chair for the duration of my outing. The driver insisted I leave the van the best way I could and wait for the next ride. I said "just take me home." She got on the phone and called the Paratransit dispatcher, and I could hear them on the phone telling her to get me off of the van and leave me there. I told her that the only way I was leaving the van was if I was in front of my house or was being escorted to a Police car. She walked away and made another phone call. Within 15-20 minutes, 8 police officers descended on the vehicle. This upset me greatly and I nearly became hysterical. I explained to the officers, my situation, along with the fact that I use diuretics and cannot be far from a restroom for extensive time periods, and I felt I would need to go pretty soon. After another 20 minutes, with the officers talking to the driver, the Paratransit office gave the OK for the driver to take me back home. I had planned a once in a great while afternoon outside of my home and it had turned into a nightmare. I phoned Paratransit when I got home and requested a refund. They told me they do not issue refunds but would file a complaint on my behalf and would request a trip voucher for me. I am to contact them next week to check the status of the voucher. I am a disabled senior on a fixed income and even the $5.50 fee is a luxury for me to spend. Very disappointed in the service and treatment I received. Felt if was overkill to have 8 officers responding to this situation, and not to mention how unnerving it was not knowing how the policemen would respond to my plight. The one shining light on the whole situation was that the police officers let me explain my situation and clearly sided with me, and treated me with compassion and warmth. The whole ordeal makes me very hesitant about trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in my life by planning an afternoon at the movies. This is a company supposedly dedicated to servicing the needs of the handicapped community. This being the case they need to incorporate some kind of flexibility when special needs people have special needs situations arise. I am considering seeking legal counsel because I was truly traumatized yesterday. Will wait to see if I even get the voucher before I make a definitive decision. Thyria J. This helps me a lot especially on my bad/painful days that I cannot drive. The drivers are very polite and follows safety precautions. Sometimes late, but traffic can be a reason and some riders are not as fast to move, of course. What can I say about the $5 per ride? It's reasonable even though if I count it for a whole month ride, it will cost $200. I used to drive a Honda Fit and my full tank is $20.00 every two weeks. I now drive a van with a lift and still costing me $30.00 every two weeks. Although not all disabled people can drive, so what I just counted only goes for people who can still drive. over all, count the insurance/maintenance, etc...it's still a good deal. You just have to wait and give 1-2 hours in the bus per ride. BTW, I offered to donate my wheelchair lift to Paratransit, but the dismantling will cost over $300.00 and I think they did not accept my donation because of the manual labor that they declined. Their reason was that they cannot sell the Tommy Gate that I have. I thought that's what they use for the vans and buses. I would have given them a 5 star if not for this incident. :-P read more

Contrary to what Micheal M says, Paratransit has a 93% on time rating and has won Sacramento's Small Business of-the-year award numerous times. That's just easy research. They are "Class of Category" in many ways. Again, after some research, you will find they do Regional Transit's job better than Regional Transit. That's why RT sub-contracted them...cheaper, more-reliable, and more timely ride delivery. Keep it up PT. read more

Paratransit is great. The people on the phone are always friendly and try their best to get me the rides that I need. Most of the Drivers are great too. Most are very patient and understanding. I know a few so well that they seem like good friends and I look forward to my next ride with them. The budget crisis in Sacramento and California has made it harder for Paratransit to give me the rides that I need and I don't understand why some rides I can use my pass and others I cannot. It's frustrating but most of the time I know before the Driver shows up so i guess it's not a big deal, really. read more
