On one of my many trips (with a friend that didn't like being in photos), we stopped for pizza at the recommendation of many people we knew. We walked in on a sunny afternoon with empty bellies and high expectations. We were greeted by a friendly staff and a post-lunch winding down of the restaurant. There were a handful of employees who stopped in for a bite to eat but they all were wrapping up to go back to work. We were seated at a table and given menus and some waters. My friend and I have similar taste buds, so we quickly settled on the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza. If memory serves me right, I got my half of the pizza with jalapenos. I do love me a bit of a kick to my food. With the lunch rush past us, we got great service as we were really the only ones in there after about 10 minutes. Our waitress was prompt with everything and just great. It wasn't long before our pizza was brought out to us and boy did it look good. It's not stranger on this blog that I love pizza and Garner's was great. Each bite was full of flavor and each slice being exactly what our bellies needed before we started exploring Bloomington. About the only complaint I would have is that Garner's is in a weird location. It seems to be a newly-built area and I am not entirely too familiar with Morton but it seems to be in a weird location. When my GPS was taking us here, I had doubts the address was correct... but I am glad that I was proven wrong. Garner's was worth the hesitation while driving there.

Review Visit: March 14th, 2016…read more What do you think I ordered at Steak & Fries? If you guess some steak with a side of fries, you'd be incorrect. What did I order on this sunny spring day? I honestly don't remember. Between looking at my photos and looking at the website/online menu, I can usually guess what I order. Not this time. Let's take a journey as I try to remember. Based on the photo below, it appears that one of the things I ordered was a BLT but its on a hotdog bun. Yup, I am not making that up. That's exactly what it looks like. The other item I ordered was another BLT maybe with chicken instead of bacon? A CLT also on a hotdog bun. Weird. I couldn't even begin to guess what the other stuff on the menu would look like once served. Tacos on a hamburger bun? Pizza topped with ice cream? Who knows! The restaurant is located in CampusTown in Peoria. This area is full of eager college freshmen dodging traffic, the worst intersection in history and a ton of local restaurants. CampusTown specifically has a countless number of places to eat and Steak & Fries is one of them. The name is generic, the food is served in non-traditional ways and the taste was... pretty good. That I do remember. My girlfriend and I were taken back by the unusual way food was presented and then we were taken back by how good it was despite the oddity of it all. You can see on their website that our unique experience isn't so unique and is just who they are. If you know me, I am a fan of oddities. I've done some strange stuff over my lifetime and tries even stranger things. Nothing illegal. Just going against the grain to try old things in new ways and new things in old ways. So, I have a small soft spot for this visit as it was definitely one to reflect on and laugh about. I've kind of gone off my normal trail with this post. There was only one other occupied table--a group of six young men--and a few people at the bar, so it wasn't busy. Our food came out fairly quickly, which was one of the few positives. My partner ordered the bison burger because he'd never tried one before. I grew up eating bison and know what a properly cooked bison burger should be like. This one was incredibly dry,far drier than it should have been. Unfortunately, our server disappeared after dropping off the food. She never returned to check whether everything was correct, ask if we needed anything, or see how the meal was. We waited and waited, but she never came back. Eventually my partner went to the bar and asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came to our table, it turned out to be our server. The same server who had ignored us while spending plenty of time chatting and flirting with the table of young men. She approached carrying the check, not asking what the issue was or how she could help. When we explained that the burger was extremely dry, she argued that it didn't look dry to her. I spoke up because I had tried it too, and it absolutely was dry. Then she claimed that bison burgers are *supposed* to be dry. If that's the case, why argue that it wasn't dry in the first place? After a back-and-forth discussion, she finally agreed to let my partner order something else. The bigger issue, though, was the service. In my 50-plus years, this was one of the most unfriendly and unprofessional server/manager interactions I've ever experienced. It takes a lot for me to complain or argue with restaurant staff, but this situation was handled poorly from start to finish. This was our first visit to Khaki Jack's, and unfortunately it will also be our last.

Review Visit: July 28th, 2013…read more Super Gyros was Super Good! Our buddy was in town while on leave from the Navy and we agreed to get lunch at Super Gyros. We didn't spend much time inside as we spent more time after lunch talking in the parking lot about random stuff. What I can tell you is that Super Gyros has your typical layout of a McDonald's or Hardees/Carl Jrs. There is a counter with menus up and behind the cashier. They take your order, you get a number, you grab a seat and you either have the food brought out to you or you pick it up at the counter. I am a newbie when it comes to gyros, so I had a hard time deciphering the menu. I settled on a lamb gyro combo. I know soda and I know french fries, but this was my first gyro. We grabbed a table and caught up on times while we waited for our food. It didn't take long as there wasn't too many people ordering food. I actually never see more than 1-2 people ordering from here at a time, so I am surprised it is still in busy as of late 2020. But, it's good to see they are still open. Back on track. After 10 minutes, all three of us had our food out in front of us and I was staring at my gyro like a deer in headlights. I didn't know if I should roll it up like a burrito to eat or fold it in half like a taco. I think I did a half-hearted burrito roll that left more of it on the wax paper than in my mouth. I tell you what... for never having a gyro nor lamb before, this was fantastic. The gyro wrap itself was thicker than a tortilla shell but not impossibly too thick to enjoy. It complimented the meat and toppings well. It sparked a small love in me for gyros that I didn't know was there. Going back to these niche places is hard for me for whatever reason. I've been by this place a million times in the following years but never had I returned, either solo or with someone. Maybe someday I will get to experience it again and all the other places I've been that haven't gotten a second visit.

What I love most about the pizza is the sauce is a slight bit sweet and pairs so well with salty cheese and toppings. I've only gone to the actual restaurant once for carry out and it seems like a decent size and was well kept. It is also next to a dollar tree which helps if you needed to pick anything up while you are there Basically, this place is great, they deliver to the east Peoria side I WISH they would deliver to Dunlap etc but the food and people are great. After 1:15 we asked again. It'll be right out. :15 later it was brought out -Luke warm at best. And it wasn't as good as most frozen pizzas from supermarket. Shitty service, bad food. Won't be back
