Every time I wanted to eat empanadas, I had to bake my own, and I usually prepare only one flavor because it is a lot of work... Back home, I was used to order empanadas of many different flavors and get them delivered whenever I had guests or I didn't want to cook. I was so happy when last year I found out about Jackie's Empanadas On the Go! I immediately placed an order and went to pick up my empanadas from their kitchen in Stamford (not a front store). I ordered frozen empanadas to stock up my freezer. They came with baking instructions and they came out perfect! I loved her empanadas but driving almost 1 hour from New Haven is not something I can do often. Last week, planning for Thanksgiving dinner, we decided to order empanadas again. I ordered online and I contacted Jackie to arrange pick up and luckily she was going to be in a holiday market in Westport that weekend, so she offered me to pick up there, saving me some driving time. We ordered Mushroom, Caprese, Ham & Cheese, Beef Malbec and Knife-Cut Steak. They were all a success! Our guests loved them! Also, when I went to pick up the empanadas, I bought a box of Alfajores de maicena (cornstarch cookie sandwich filled with dulce de leche) and a box of Medialunas (Argentinian croissants). They were absolutely delicious!!!! I wish I lived closer to order more often, but I will definitely order food from Jackie's again!

I was genuinely excited to try Wonder in Stamford, admittedly thinking it was a multi restaurant…read morefood court. Instead, I discovered it operates more like a single "ghost kitchen" prep hub, despite advertising a variety of eateries. It's one shared kitchen in the back, finishing dishes based on recipes from names such as Bobby Flay. We used a $25 promo code and decided to try two of their offerings. From "Bobby Flay Steak" I ordered the steak with truffle mushroom mashed potatoes. The steak was tender, but unfortunately underwhelming lacking juicy flavor and definitely not worth the premium price. Next, from "Limesalt" I got a burrito noticeably stingy with the guacamole. Both dishes portions and preparation didn't match the cost. The dining area struck me as uncomfortably hot and stuffy. There was no noticeable air circulation, which made sitting there feel oppressive. Despite the presence of ordering kiosks, I had to place my order online in order to apply the discount code. When I came to pick up our order, the staff seemed confused; I had to show my order number before they retrieved it, which was less than smooth. The seating space itself is quite limited, just a handful of small tables, so don't plan on lounging or lingering.

They use the same big noodles used for drunken noodles, which I've never had in Pad Thai before, but whatever. My issue is they the plate is sitting in an odd broth that tastes nothing like Pad Thai. When I asked them about it (thinking perhaps it was a mistake) they said this was how they always make it. It tastes nothing like Pad Thai and I honestly can't eat it. Perhaps it's best to stick with something like a burger, but I would definitely avoid the Pad Thai at all cost! The manager was nice and is letting me exchange it for a burger which I really appreciate.

It's tucked right between Newfield and Springdale, and it has such a versatile vibe--it's quiet enough for a professional business lunch but refined enough to celebrate something special. My wife and I stopped by for their soft opening and were honestly blown away. From the moment the appetizers hit the table until the last bite of dessert, you could tell how much care went into the preparation and presentation. A few standouts: * The Grilled Octopus: It's hard to find someone who does this right, but theirs was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. * The Filet Mignon: Total "melt-in-your-mouth" quality. Perfectly cooked. * Desserts: Do not skip these. They were decadently delicious and the perfect way to cap off the meal. It's great to have a spot of this caliber right on the golf course.

Slightly off the beaten path, I surmise it is well known to Darien residents. The layout is somewhat unusual -- you enter into the dairy aisle, with produce at the other end of the building. Make sure you try the prepared foods -- the chicken scarpariello meatballs are our favorite item so far. Soups were excellent -- chicken matzo ball, sausage gumbo and carrots ginger all pleased. Pulled pork was savory but could have used some sauce. At Easter they were sampling delicious ham and scalloped potatoes. Fresh meats appeared to be of high quality, I can vouch for the hamburger patties. The fish counter is small and is not attended by a fishmonger. I've only had free samples of the baked goods so far, but they look great. Produce is solid, but as expensive as you would expect from a gourmet market in Darien. Service from the counter folks and check out was uniformly excellent.

Where else can you stroll the aisles with a free coffee in hand, pretending you came in for "just one thing," while slowly filling your cart with items you didn't know existed but now absolutely need. And the rotisserie chicken might be the best financial decision in the whole store. Somehow it's the one thing that feels like a bargain while everything else gently reminds you that quality comes at a price. In the end you walk out with great groceries, a lighter wallet, and the comforting feeling that at least you did it with a cup of free coffee in your hand. Honestly, worth it.
