I almost don't want to write this because I want to keep it as my little secret, but The Royal Green at Sterling Farms is seriously one of the best "hidden gems" in the Stamford area. It's tucked right between Newfield and Springdale, and it has such a versatile vibe--it's quiet enough for a professional business lunch but refined enough to celebrate something special. My wife and I stopped by for their soft opening and were honestly blown away. From the moment the appetizers hit the table until the last bite of dessert, you could tell how much care went into the preparation and presentation. A few standouts: * The Grilled Octopus: It's hard to find someone who does this right, but theirs was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. * The Filet Mignon: Total "melt-in-your-mouth" quality. Went back for a second time and it was just as good! Calamari with peanut sauce, beef empanadas to start, both delicious. I had the sea bass which was yummy. My husband had the duck confit...amazing! Risotto that comes with is also superb. Others had the salmon special and the sole and all reports were stellar. Service was so good, friendly, warm. The couple we took there had their rehearsal dinner in the same venue... 37 years ago! Different then but they loved going back and gave it five stars too. First time at The Royal Green in Stamford, went for our anniversary. Place has a great vibe--classy without trying too hard. We kicked off with the seafood tower: crisp, fresh, briny perfection. The lobster? A little flat, like it had seen a freezer, but everything else was spot-on. I had pasta with seafood--cooked right, tasted like the ocean. My wife had the branzino--perfectly seasoned, perfectly grilled. Our waiter, Alan, was the real deal--attentive without being fake. Bottom line: damn good meal, we'll be back. read more

Everything about this restaurant, from the food to the ambiance, is elegant and sophisticated yet not in the least bit pretentious. The food is excellent and while not inexpensive, the quality more than warrants the price. The service is impeccable. The welcome is warm and genuine. Our server, Alain, was professional, knowledgeable and charming. Everything we tried was excellently prepared and presented. The decor is lovely with plush upholstered chairs and sound absorbing details that allow for easy conversation. This is my kind of restaurant. Classic, formal dining room, low volume soothing music. It's perfectly aligned with a golf course and the Kweskin theater so a suggestion is to have dinner before the show. Our party of four arrived at 6pm for a showtime of 8pm. It's a newly opened restaurant. The service was excellent and the server knowledgeable about the menu. The hostess was very polite and inquired during the meal how our experience was. The ambiance is blue and white with nice windows. It feels just like you're in someone's dining room providing a pleasant and cozy atmosphere without feeling stuffy. It's not a cheap meal but neither does it feel pretentious. The food was not a solid A but it was a good B+. I enjoyed the Chilean Sea Bass (B+) but my lobster bisque was an A+. It was a special so perhaps not available all the time. I tried some of the vinaigrette salad which is rare an A-. For dessert, the crème brule would also score an A-. My cocktail (a vodka specialty cocktail) was delicious but not as strong as I would have liked but this seems to be a recent universal trend of weaker cocktails. I'd highly recommend Royal Green and I plan to be back. read more

We go to the curtain call many times a year and a club I belong to has used their catering for parties under the tent a few times. Since we spent so much time at Sterling Farms we were excited to see The Royal Green reopen. Went with friends last night and it was amazing. The space is elegant, service was top notch and the food was too. The Branzino was moist and seasoned well. My duck was very good. Didn't have the pastas our friends had but they liked them both. Dessert was a great Creme Brulee and a Flourless Chocolate Torte. The torte was OK, too cold and a little dry. Good selection of wines and drinks. The bar scene looked lively. read more

This place reminds me a lot of the fancy restaurants when I was a kid. They have a lot of very formal style dishes (veal chops, escargot, foie gras, Madeira sauce...) but also dishes that are well done but more comforting (a nice friend calamari, truffle tater tots). The food was very good and they made the interior look lovely. I had the veal chop which was very good and a delicious baked oyster special. I'd like more wines by the glass but the wines we did have were really good. It's a lovely addition that part of Stamford which really didn't have anything devoted to Fine Dining before. We had a great experience at the Royal Green tonight. The staff is lovely, friendly and attentive. Our steaks were delicious as were the béarnaise and onion rings. They have done a great job with remodeling this dining room and every table has high wing back chairs, and nice lighting, very comfortable. The Royal Green was great for a night out as a couple (would be great for a group too). The restaurant has been renovated to a very elegant standard and the dining chairs were super comfortable. Our waiter, Alain, was personable and knowledgeable and offered excellent service, would go back for his service alone. The food was great but fell a star short of excellent. The appetizers were excellent, slight ding for not listing olives as a salad ingredient. One of us does not like olives. The Tuna entree, while perfectly cooked, was under sauced and the pasta entree, again quite good, but was over salted enough to deduct a star. That being said, we will definitely return to this gem of a restaurant. read more

I had dinner here last night for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The pictures on their website don't do the interior justice. They did a great job and the restaurant is surprisingly large. The bar area looked really cute as well. Everyone was very friendly and you could tell they cared and wanted us to have a nice experience. We began with two cocktails, the blood orange martini and their whiskey sour- both good. We enjoyed the cashew calamari, which had a light orange sauce and peanut dipping sauce. The duck was very nice and my partner's steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested. To finish we shared the cheesecake which was great as well. This place isn't reinventing the wheel from a culinary standpoint but I think it's a wonderful addition to the area and serves up delicious meals. read more

We celebrated our son's birthday at The Royal Green last night. It was a fabulous experience. The ambience was beautiful! We loved that there was a packed restaurant buzz but that you could still hear your conversation at the table. The lighting was perfect! I am a fan of low lighting but being able to read the menu. Our service was exceptional! The manager was incredibly friendly and hospitable. Our server was personable, knowledgeable and professional. We started with the calamari, escargot and wooden bowl salad. All three were absolutely delicious. The calamari was truly the very best we have had. Our mains were equally as good! Filet and NY cooked perfectly, Bolognese was a crowd favorite, Duck was crispy and yummy! I highly recommend The Royal Green. Go see for yourself, the pictures online don't do it justice! We were delighted that the restaurant at the Sterling Golf Course has finally reopened. We ate there with friends on a Sunday evening. The restaurant has been remodeled and is warm and inviting with a gas fireplace. The Caesar salad was served in a Parmesan cheese basket and was delicious. The Chilean sea bass and duck with mushroom risotto were well prepared and tasty. The chef is also the pastry chef and his desserts were as phenomenal as his main courses. Easily the best american steakhouse and one of the best high-end dinning spots in the city. Forget Capital, Washington Prime, The Ridges, Blackstone, Hudson, or any other steak places in Stamford. If you want a Peter Luger or the Palms near quality cut and service portions, this is the best little talked about option. Excellent service, prices, and portion size. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal or special occasion. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and way more so than those other places I mentioned. Can't go wrong here read more

Went last night to the Royal Green. It is a bit pricey, but I have to say it was the best food that I have had in a long time. They have redone the interior which is quite nice and the food is insanely good. We had calamari which was incredible, it was done with cashew nuts and a peanut sauce. The calamari was so soft and so good. Also had Lamb shank Osso bucco and it was tender and tasty with all the good fixens. My husband had a veal chop which was perfectly cooked tender and juicey. The desert of baked pear with fig was to die for. I can't say enough about this place. We waited a long time for it to reopen and it is here BIG TIME! read more

We just had dinner tonight. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of an old New England Inn. Thaila the GM was excellent and very attentive, the staff was on point and the Chef was amazing. A great selection of cocktails and wine. I recommend the crab crumble as an appetizer.
