I got an interesting PM from Allard Parfitt after my review here on Yelp. It departs notably from his comment on my first review (below). Among other things, he spoke of how his free estimates are not free of cost to him - the implied message being that its okay if he doesn't show-up for those estimates, or return phone calls regarding them. He closed by pointing out that I "owe him the courtesy of a response." Perhaps I do. So to that end, this update. Re the Free-Estimate Thing: Allard, I understand that you offer free estimates as a courtesy to potential clients, and I understand that such a policy contains hidden costs for you. But that does not absolve you of responsibility for showing-up at those estimates, or barring that, calling the client and notifying him that you won't be there. Its an issue of professionalism, not the economics of the policy itself. Re the Courtesy Comment: It perplexes me that you bring up what courtesies you're entitled to when our primary issue is that you were a no-show, no call. A little courtesy from you would have spared us both this whole ordeal - all that was required was a brief phone call from you: "Sorry, Man. I've thought about it and it doesn't look like I'll be able to take the job at your place. Best of luck finding another repairman." That's it. Other reviewers have had the same no show, no call problems with you, Allard. I recommend that you pick up the phone and communicate with your clients and potential clients a little more . . . just a suggestion. read more

Wow. Allard calls my place of employment (I'm an attorney with a large law firm), to complain about my truthful yelp review of him. Absolutely unacceptable Allard. I asked you to provide a hard bid. Not my employer. Why on earth would you call my place of business to complain about a Yelp review? Came out promptly to look at a job at my place in East Sacramento. Said he'd work up prices and get back to me. Several (3-4) unreturned telephone calls later and still no word. I gave him plenty of chances to call back. Not so much as a "Sorry, I'm too busy and can't do the job after all." Nice guy, but terrible follow through. Follow Up: He has emailed me several times complaining that he never works where I my account shows I live. Yes, but I got the bid for a house in Sacramento sir. Yelpers, you have not failed me again and I am hoping not to fail you again also. So here is another one of my reviews. First off, Allard Parfitt is the one man army. He is the owner, contactor, worker, etc.; of course because it is his company. Here is how my story breaks down. I was looking into replacing a door on the side of my house that was dry rotted out. I went to the big box stores to see what I could get from them in terms of the installation and repairs. The big orange one quoted me at close to $900 for the door with installation. Are you kidding me? The blue one quoted me at around $700. After seeing the quotes from the big boxes, and well, let just say that I don't trust all the workers because most of them don't have any knowledge of what they are trying to help you with. Since I had never done a pre-hung door before, I decided to look around further. I came accross Allard and saw the reviews. IGNORE THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS, THEY ARE TROLLS! Allard is a very professional guy and charges reasonable rates. I was watching him the whole time while he was doing the door, just so that I could learn from him. Through the whole processes, he would give me tips and tricks of the trade, on how I could have done this myself. (I'm glad I didn't, it would have taken me all day long). Allard was on time on both occasions, for the quote and the installation. The quality of the workmanship that he provided was excellent. (Trust me, I am very picky and so is he, which means he has very good attention to details). I am so happy I went with Parfitt construction because I saved myself at least $250 over the big box stores or more. For those that know my reviews, know that I don't lie, and I tell it how it is. I will be using Allard's services again if I ever need some handywork around the house that I cannot handle myself. Also, remember that if you are reading this review, that means you need someone. He was very prompt coming to one of our rental properties for the purpose of cutting a hole in the bedroom wall to access the area for the plumber we were going to use.... But he told my sister he could do the whole job. We we're suppose to have the estimate the next day, with work to start in a day... Never heard from him again !!!! Partiff Construction was recommended to me by my real estate agent after my condominium was flooded by my upstairs neighbor. After ServiceMaster professionally dried what was left of the ceiling, walls, and floor I hired Allard to rebuild. The job required replacing most of the ceiling, repairing large sections of several walls, repairs to some cabinets, and installing new lighting. He work with me, my insurance adjuster, and the flooring company to ensure that my home was restored as quickly as possible. His work was quick and very clean. All repairs were top quality (even the texture on the repaired walls blended seamlessly). I will use him again and I would recommend him unconditionally. read more

I originally found Allard here on Yelp when I needed some leak repair work done on my house. Although he is a busy guy he is well worth it, he is knowledgeable, prompt, charges very fair rates and from what he's done for me so far he does very good quality work and I even have booked him to come back in the near future to help with some further repairs! Im sorry to see that some people have had a problem with his communication but I've never experienced this problem, in fact just today he called to let me know he got held up at a job and would be just a few minutes late to our appointment. I had Allard come to my home to install a range for me. I was upgrading from an old drop-in range to a much larger slide-in range, and Allard had to make quite a few modifications to my tile countertop and cabinets to make extra space for the larger range. After getting quotes from a few different people, Allard had the best rate and some really good reviews on Yelp so I decided to take a chance with him. Yes, I know a few people complained about his punctuality on here, and yes, he was hard to get a hold of at times, but people have to understand that he is very busy for a reason. Once I was finally able to set up a time with him to do the work, he always showed up when he said he would. Trust me, he is worth the wait. And the work he did was AWESOME to say the least. This job was so tricky that I had the typical range installation places turn me down because they didn't feel comfortable making the cabinet and tile modifications. Allard on the other hand told me right away that he would have no problem doing the install and he was right....the new slide-in range install came out perfect. Even after he encountered an issue which was unexpected during the installation and required more labor, he still charged me the price on his estimate. He said he didn't like to hit customers with unexpected charges that weren't on the original quote. He had to spend quite a bit more time at my house because of it, but he didn't charge me a dime more. I am posting a before and after picture from the job. What you can't tell from the photo is that he had to remove half an inch of the tile and cabinets on each side, about an inch of tile behind the original stove, and the piece of cabinet beneath the old stove to allow for the larger slide-in to be moved into place. He also had to move and re-wire the electrical outlet behind the stove because of the different location on the new range. It was tricky work that required a lot of skill to not chip or ruin the existing tile and cabinets but he pulled it off perfectly. I will definitely be using him for future projects later on down the line. read more

We had some windows that needed dry rot repair before the rainy season and gave Parfitt Construction a call. A wooden railing on front porch also needed some work. Consider me another satisfied customer. Allard sent his initial estimate a few days after inspection and was amenable to some minor changes. He arrived promptly at the work-site and was meticulous in his work. He explained what needed repair and how he would do it. The dry rot damage was not as bad as initially estimated, which Allard pointed out, saving me over $650. Windows looked like brand new when repaired and painted. Our front porch now has a cool Mission-style front railing, courtesy of Allard. Had him replace the post as well. Everything was sealed, primed, and painted. Allard is also very generous. We have two gates in front yard, one sagged heavily and the other would not open because the gate and post were stuck. Without any hesitation (or charge), Allard added a bracket to fix the sagging gate and removed a board on the stuck gate; and now both work like new. Yes, I would definitely recommend Parfitt Construction. So much so, that I am having him return for some other jobs soon. read more

Allard is very detail oriented and his repair work is impeccable!!! This is the 3rd or 4th time I have hired him - after my first experience with him, I was pleased - BUT I couldn't find his number - then I made the mistake of looking in the phonebook for a contractor. BAD choice. Once I located Allards info again, I made sure to NEVER lose it. It's hard to find a reliable contractor these days - but with my dealings with Allard (The owner), I not only found a reliable contractor, I found one that does IMPECCABLE work! This is my second review for Parfitt Construction and Allard's earned another 5 stars. My living room only had one window, facing east, so after the morning sun the room got pretty dark for the rest of the day. I was so impressed with the job Allard did installing a patio door in one of the bedrooms, I hired him to install a large window on the blank south-side wall and it's transformed the living room - it's now bright all day long. He's a honest-to-God professional and it's obvious he takes enormous pride in his work. All the lines are clean and the finishes I requested were done to perfection. I have used Parfitt Construction for over 14 months for various projects around our home in Sacramento. So far Allard has replaced an entire roof, replaced the ducts and insulation for our air conditioner/furnance, fixed dry rot around the windows and porch railings, made electrical repairs and fixed the sprinkler system. There is no job this man cannot fix. Allard always shows up with a smile on his face and his bids are always on time and reflect a terrific value for a job exceptionally well done. This is a rental property and Allard has always put the tenants at ease and they feel secure while he works. I called for an estimate on a dry wall finish. I tried to do the work myself and it didn't turn out too good. So I called Parfitt Construction and the gentleman was VERY helpful. I had to get it done asap, but their schedule was full so they couldn't get to me right away, and instead he offered some advice. I ended up saving hundreds of dollars. This is the kind of honest and genuine company you can trust and want to do business with, they are exceptional just by their approach to my situation. Allard helped me out of a real emergency. It was late on a Friday night, raining. My garage door suddenly became stuck and wouldn't close all the way. I was on my way out of the house, when after trying 10 times my garage door would not stay shut. Even when I tried the switch by the door (inside the garage), the door would close about 80% of the way, then roll up again. I tried looking online, where I got advice to clean the sensors off and try to move them. I did clean them but could not move them. Other online advice was to alter a switch on the side of the motor unit. I did,but it ended up making the problem worse. I called about 3 companies dedicated to Garage Door Repair, one even with an Emergency Service # that was supposedly answered 24/7. NO response to any of them. Then on a hunch, I called Parfitt Construction, since it seemed like he knew how to do all kinds of repairs. I believed the last reviewer who said he was the Real Deal. Allard answered the phone right away, agreed to help me, said it shouldn't be too much trouble, and said he'd arrive in 20 minutes. Mind you, this is on a Friday night, while it was raining, when most people weren't answering their phone. When Allard arrived, he was friendly, and got right to diagnosing the problem. The problem was not my sensors, as I had thought (so much for amateur sleuthing). He figured out that it was indeed a switch on my motor unit that needed adjusting...but not the one that I tried! Just goes to show you that as much online advice as you get, nothing beats a professional helping you repair a mechanical problem. For coming to the rescue in the middle of the night, being willing to drive out in the rain and helping me out of a pinch, Allard charged me beyond a reasonable rate -- essentially just for his gas. I really appreciated his help and generosity. If you want an all-around Good Guy who is reliable, quick, will get the job done and come to your "rescue" re: your repair needs, give Parfitt Construction a call. You'll be glad you did. read more

From our first phone inquiry through the completion of the job, Allard was thorough and professional. We had leaks from our toilet and shower/tub that had gotten into our bathroom subfloor and caused damage in a number of places. Allard diagnosed the problem, performed some tricky trouble-shooting, and took care of the problem to our full satisfaction. We also took the opportunity to hire Allard for some aesthetic improvements to the bathroom, and he was equally capable in this area. I bought a rental property in Sacramento in "as-is" condition. Going into the deal I knew I would need a bathroom remodel. Allard came out and gave a very competitive estimate. I decided to go with him for the job and the bathroom came out looking gorgeous. This is a guy who really pays attention to detail and takes pride in his work. Flaky, flaky, flaky!! Allard is a very nice guy, he likes to talk and if I had any advise for him it would be just like the old country song says, "A little less talk and a lot more action!" He made the effort to come look at the job, told me he would have a bid for me in 2-3 days, nothing. I called him and he made a lame excuse that I needed the work done before he could get to it. I told him he must have me mixed up with someone else and please send me a bid. He said, "I have all your information and will send the bid tonight." Nothing...ever. On two occasions Allard said he would call at a specific time to make an appointment for an estimate, once he knew what time he could make it. He didn't call either time, nor did he ever call when and if he realized he had neglected to contact me. Parfitt Construction just finished 2 jobs for me both with amazing results. I had some water damage to the siding of my home that needed to be replaced and repainted. They had to work around curved windows and custom paint colors. It looks wonderful, can't even tell the difference in the wood or the color. Also I was wanting a custom size window made for the bedroom to hang an antique piece of stained glass. Parfitt Construction took a solid wall and turned it into a showpiece now in my home. Not only did they create a window space but they also hung the stained glass piece for me! Ladies, these guys are "clean". Allard Parfitt, who I choose as a contractor in a pinch after reading his corresponding Yelp reviews, not only did great work but actually came to my rescue in a difficult situation for which I will always be grateful. An investment property I was remodeling was cited by the city for an old addition considered to be unsafe. A deadline to complete repairs on it was issued for which I would face steep fines if not met. I was out of the country at the time and couldn't handle the problem. Enter Allard to the rescue, who kindly procured the permit needed for the repairs in my absence, and then not only competently completed the cited repairs, but discovered several other major problems with the old plumbing ventilation system and completely replaced it all. Although several walls in the house needed opening up for these repairs, and he had to go through the roof, when all was said and done you would never know anything had been touched. He also took care of some sticky foundation and siding problems without missing a step. Then he personally handled all the inspections with the city which were passed with flying colors. Bottom line Allard is a very experienced contractor who can do it all, with the bonus of being good natured and easy to work with to boot. Having remodeled 20 houses, I've worked with many contractors, seen the good, the bad and the ugly, so this ain't no jive. Two thumbs up for Allard, don't look any further! He's awesome. read more

During the remodel of my upstairs condo, I was informed by the laminate floor installers that my floors had to be leveled prior to installation. I contacted Allard at Parfitt Construction, he leveled my floors to perfection! (Big Job) During the entire remodel, Allard is the only contractor that I worked with that did exactly what he said he would do, arrived when he said he would arrive and completed the job as scheduled.
