I bought a mini spa day package that came with a massage, facial, and mani/pedi. The location is convenient and only about a 5 minute walk from the DuPont circle metro stop. When I arrived, I was greeted immediately by the receptionist and my massage therapist promptly took me into the treatment room. Unfortunately my massage was not relaxing at all, and I couldn't wait until it was over. My therapist took a call on her cell phone about 5 minutes in, while still continuing to proceed with the massage. Unlike any massage I've ever received before, she massaged the cleavage area and stomach which sort of skeeved me out. Next was the facial, I explained my skin type and what I was looking to get out of this service. The procedure was very relaxing, but my face was very red when it was done and the next day, I noticed that blood vessels were broken. Finally I had the mani/pedi which was the best part of the package. It was your typical mani/pedi and the woman who did it was very friendly and my nails looked good! Based on the positive reviews that Paris Alexander received, I was expecting to have a very relaxing experience. I'm not sure if they were having an off day but it left me very disappointed and I will not be returning or encouraging anyone to visit. read more

I went to her when my winter moisturizers started to fail me and she recommended a product line perfect for my needs. I have recommended many people to her spa and the service is amazing. I have been a regular with Paris for 5 years and get a European facial about once a month. My skin always thanks me for it! The Collins line she uses is high quality (as a Canadian brand, it is frequently used in top spas in Montreal). I meant to write this review a year ago. I went for a massage. The place had pink sheets that looked beyond dated. I just felt uncomfortable overall. Even the masseuse made me uncomfortable. I went there because of the price being reasonable. This experience was a huge lesson to me that going for a good deal is not always worth it. I won't be back. read more

After deciding I need to take the afternoon from work and give myself a well deserved treat, I wen to Paris' for a manicure & pedicure. This was my first time at their new location and it's still great service. Paris Alexander greeted me when I arrived and also said goodbye, which I think is a personal touch that many business owners have lost. The nail esthetician was nice, professional and did an EXCELLENT job with my cuticles (very particular about that kind of thing). The atmosphere was JUST what I needed- quiet and relaxing. They use an amazing scrub on the feet that left my heels feeling like a new born baby! I was very pleased with my service. I hope to return for a facial this month with Paris. Note- REALLY pay attention to the addresses on the buildings because I almost walked past it because there isn't really a sign outside, at least not until you walk up the steps almost to their front door. read more

Ditto on being extremely confusing, i had to call the place when i got the address to understand that Paris Alexander was in Lillian Laurence. It's kind of a no frills day spa. My massage was good, short 'cause it was for Spa Week, loved the use of the Shea Butter lotion instead of oil, made my skin nice and soft. I'd probably come back, but I think the regular prices are way too much for not having a real "spa" aspect, i.e. no relaxing area for afterwards, steam room, etc. totally worth it for spa week though. read more

I keep coming back because her facials are the best I have received, she is friendly and warm, and i leave her space more relaxed than at any other spa I have visited. I went here for spa week and I have to say that the set up is just too cramped to actually enjoy any of the services. Pricing is not too bad. My massage from Angela was great, but I didn't like that the massage tables are only separated by a curtain. I was mid-massage when another client walked in on the other side of the partition and I could hear everything. Not relaxing. Plus a little weird to know that one quick pull back of the curtain means I can be seen with no clothing on. My manicure and pedicure was downright terrible. This room was also shared with the facial room and I could hear everything going on. Much less distracting than during my massage, but still weird. Even at a price tag of $50 for the spa week special i think it was a little high. My nails are already peeling less than a week later. I think the base coat polish was accidentally applied as the topcoat, and as a result I have a grimy film on top of the nail polish. I'm wishing I hadn't tipped so much. I was obviously the last appointment of the day and felt very rushed. Other complaints - there are no changing rooms/lockers/robes. I had to put my clothes back on after my massage and I was an oily mess. I would have liked at least a shower. I had to carry my giant bag from room to room. I say spend an extra $20 for somewhere with better environment and privacy. read more

Tammy provided my facial and, even though she has to perform some extractions, it was one of the best experiences I've had at a spa. She talked to me throughout the process, but never interrupted my ability to relax. She answered any questions and even gave me some skin care homework. I will definitely return. read more

While in town for work I researched the area for the best facial and massage and found this gem!! Luckily I was able to take advantage of a cancellation in their schedule . I have been to several spas through the years (everything from high-end to no-frills) and can honestly say this was my best overall experience. My massage with Bill was magnificent - best massage of my life! Paris is a master aesthetician that I was fortunate enough to see, who took great care and also provided recommendations for ongoing skincare that address my hormonal acne concerns. I cannot recommend this day spa enough, and I only wish I lived closer. read more

I lived in DC for some time and this was my day spa of choice. Loved the packages that were offered and you got a sense that everyone knew what they were doing. The manicures and pedicures are always excellent (Kudos to Helen for always doing a superb job!). This time around, while visiting DC for the weekend, I decided to go with some friends for some girl time and pampering. I did the "pamper yourself' package which consisted of a mani-pedi as well as a facial. I did the facial with Paris herself and was very impressed with her professionalism and knowledge. I was literally glowing after we were finished (still am :-). Like another reviewer said, I really appreciate the fact that they don't push products on you, in an attempt to get a sale. At the end I asked Paris about a product that she used during the facial and she was so sweet in answering all of my questions about it, that I ended up purchasing it. The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is because of the location. I do not like the spa in a spa thing and the gentleman at the next counter (for the lilian laurence spa) is always so stuffy when you enter, it takes away from the experience. I hope that in the future Paris will be able to get her own place, because I will certainly follow her :-) Overall, excellent day spa! I will continue to go there everytime I am in DC. read more

I am very pleased with the service I received today from PA Day Spa. This was my first time visiting this spa; Tarica and Ms. Paris did not disappoint. Not only did the receptionist Dana ensure that details related to my previous cervical spine surgery were noted in my chart, Tarica frequently checked with me throughout the massage to ensure I was not experiencing any discomfort. I appreciate that this spa is not only focused on relaxation but they are highly focused on healing as well. My facial was also amazing, I appreciated the extra time taken during the extraction process. I have already booked my next monthly appointment. I used a Spa Finder gift card, so even though my services were "free" to me, I'm still incredibly disappointed. This is a value place. No frills, no locker room, no robes, etc. No relaxing waiting room. I booked a bikini and leg waxing and a massage. The treatment room was tiny! So small that the waxing table was placed on a diagonal b/c it would not fit straight. There was a bed sheet on the table and hastily placed tissue paper. After I removed my clothes and laid down, my waxer opened the door slightly so she can squeeze back in the room. No curtain or any other privacy! The waxing itself was more painful then previous waxes I'd had before. Later in the day, I discovered that I had a series of bruises along my bikini line where the waxer had pulled too hard or otherwise botched the job. I was also disappointed to see stray hairs left behind. The legwax was ok, but there are a few missed spots there as well. Once the torturous waxing was complete, I got up to change into my clothes (again, no robes) to go to the massage room. Nope, I was already in the massage room! They just dimmed the lights a bit and I got the weirdest massage ever. It was only 30 minutes, but it was mainly my back and after repeatedly wincing when digging into my shoulder blade, the masseuse abruptly said, "What happened to your shoulder?" Certainly not a time for conversation when I'm trying to relax. I can't even complain about the individual waxer/masseuse b/c she never introduced herself. All in all, not a good or relaxing experience at all. I will say that the woman at the front desk was very sweet and accommodating. Other than that, nothing good to say about this place. read more

I would give this place a 3.5 but because of the high quality massage I'm rounding up. Let me break it down: - Reception = 5 Stars It is a bit difficult to find this place -- it is tucked into a building with other businesses and the signage isn't visible from the street. I called and the receptionist gave me directions and actually looked out the window and saw me and help me find my way. The reception area is nicely decorated and I highly appreciated the blazing fire on a cold winter night. The receptionist was super nice. I was offered a chair and given paperwork to fill out and then immediately ushered into a treatment room. (+ for no wait!) Additionally, when I checked out and presented my Yelp gift certificate (for $75 toward the $135 bill of the massage I got) she was very pleasant about it all. - Treatment - a 90 minute deep tissue massage = 5 Stars I can't remember my masseuse's name but she really got into my back which was super tight and riddled with knots. And the pressure was PERFECT! - Subtractions: - The rooms was a bit cold which takes aways from the relaxing experience. And when I mentioned that it was a bit cold, the masseuse just kind of tucked the covers more around my areas that weren't currently being massaged -- rather than turning the temp up in the room. :( - The masseuse had he phone on vibrate and it went off multiple times during my massage which was distracting and again took away fromt he relaxing experience. I turn off my phone during spa treatments and I expect the providers to do the same. To me, this is the biggest offense. - My masseuse was professional, but not super friendly or inviting. Hence, the subtraction. - It is not an super expensive place but not cheap. With tip, the massage would have been $155 if I hadn't been treated to a Yelp certificate from my boyfriend. This all said, I will definitely go again, mostly because the massage was just perfect and my back is still kind of a wreck! read more

This was a nice experience that I treated myself to. Coming inside it was a bit strange because no one was at the desk, so I just sat in a chair and prayed someone would come. Eventually a woman returned to the desk, coming through the street entrance as if she ran to get lunch or something. It felt strange, however, I like that they have package deals - I did the one that was a wrap, massage, and facial. None of the treatments were the "best" I have ever had in my life, but I would probably go again. I should have researched what a "wrap" was before I did it. Basically, someone rubs some lotion on you, wraps you in plastic, and then puts heavy blankets on you so you sweat like crazy. I felt overheated; it was not relaxing. I also can't imagine how a service in which the worker spends 99% of the time sitting outside translates to 70 dollars or whatever. I have had better facials and massages at other locations (Capitol Hill Day Spa), but this one isn't bad. 4 stars. read more

This was the first time getting a "real" massage and the bar has been set pretty high. In Feb 2012 I received a hot stone massage as a gift and it was one of the best gifts ever. I forgot my masseuse's name but she was amazing!! I was running pretty late (mistakenly went to their old location) and they still took me! I was apparently stressed and by the massage's end, I was in a very zen state. Highlights were the ambiance (very inviting and comfortable), professionalism of masseuse, and location (few blocks from Dupont Circle Metro stop). Before giving a review I wanted to get a facial and luckily the yelp deal ($50 for $75 of service) came around. So I scheduled a facial over the phone. When I first arrived, Paris was engaged in a business development phone call while I waited about 15 minutes. Nevertheless, I was acknowledged by the secretary immediately and offered a beverage while I waited.This was my very first facial and the things she did to my face was amazing. She did the oxygen facial and my skin has never felt so alive. There were a series of masks, massages, and moisture that she used and it felt divine. Plus I received a hand massage and moisturizing treatment! She recommended a few products which I did purchase one, but no pressure to get any. It is clear that they are still settling into this location and as a business, but it does not diminish from the excellent service and soothing atmosphere. I will definitely be going again (in fact I bout my significant other a massage already) and recommend that giving this spa a try. read more

I had to give myself some time to calm down in order to express my disappointment in the lack of service that I received in a respectful and constructive manner. I made an appointment for today at 10:30 a.m. I received a call telling me that my appointment needed to be rescheduled for 10:45 a.m. i agreed to the change. I left my house an hour prior to my appointment to allow myself time to find parking and ENSURE that I made it to my appointment ON TIME. After searching for parking for 30 minutes, I found parking and PAID for parking ALL to ENSURE that I was on time to my appointment. I waited for almost 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment for a Paris Alexander employee to arrive and open the shop. This is not acceptable and it is not the right way to treat people - to treat your customer. AFTER all of this, I was NOT seen because the esthetician was ill and unable to perform my service and I was asked to reschedule. Paris Alexander (as with most spa's) would NOT even allow me to make an appointment without giving you my credit card information so that they can charge me if I am late or if I missed my appointment. Paris Alexander would have charged me the full amount of my scheduled service if I had treated them the way that they treated me today. THIS - IS - NOT - OKAY. read more

Paris Alexander is well versed in multculural skin care, she focuses on good service and has over twenty years experience in the field. However, this is not the Ritz Carlton Pearl Spa or the West coast version of Burke Williams, its a no frills service spa. She is currently looking for new location-- so getting to her current temporary location (which is shared with another spa) is confusing but good service is guarunteed. read more

I was sorely disappointed by my experience here. I had an appointment at 1030, received a call the night before to confirm. I showed up 20 min early and the door was locked. In fact, no one showed up to open until 1030. After running around setting up and attempting to be accommodating, my service was finally started at 1050. I had street parked so I had a two hour limit which would have worked out fine if she started on time. It wasn't the worst massage I've ever had but it wasn't the best by far. It felt rushed. By the time I was to move rooms for my facial it was almost 12, which left me concerned about my car on the street. The facial was great and my skin looked amazing when I left EXCEPT when you book and hour long facial and you're left in the room alone with a mask for 20 min of the hour....I received 10% off for my check in via yelp but I'm not likely to return. This was a birthday gift from my husband. It was over and hour away from my house and I wanted to support a black business. It just wasn't worth it IMO. read more

A hidden gem in Dupont. Everyone was very professional and kind. My appointment ran over their closing time, but no one made me feel awkward or bad about it - they were very friendly and patient with me, which I appreciated so much as I know that it's really hard to be nice sometimes when you just want to go home. On top of the great customer service, Paris did my assessment and facial and was very honest about the service she thought would be best for me and my budget - unlike some spas that will throw your wallet and face under the bus regardless. I feel great about the facial I was given and Paris also recommended a facial serum that has worked wonders in the two weeks since my last appointment. And yes, I would say it's a little on the pricey side, but the saying, "you get what you pay for", definitely applies here in the best way possible. Something should be said for the environment and aura, as well. It's like walking into a shrine, and is immediately calming and soothing. I will definitely be returning on a regular basis.
