I called this office specifically because my dog has frequent seizures and I needed guidance on safe flea prevention for her. I emphasized her seizure history MULTIPLE times during that call. They recommended NexGard and had me pay $75 for MDR1 testing plus a little over $100 for the medication. The problem: NexGard belongs to the isoxazoline class of flea/tick drugs, which carries an FDA warning against use in dogs with a history of seizures, since it can lower the seizure threshold. This is DIRECTLY on the medication's own label! The MDR1 test also isn't relevant to this risk, it screens for sensitivity to a completely different drug class. I raised my dog's seizures as the whole reason I called, and was still steered toward a medication that's SPECIFICALLY CAUTIONED against for dogs like her. I'm now out nearly $200 with no safe solution for her flea prevention, months later. Would like to see more care taken when a pet's medical history is flagged upfront. I would have rather they told me they do not have a solution for me rather than waste my time and money. I have attached screenshots of the emails that completely ignore my concerns. You can see the time stamps and how long I have tried to be patient and get answers. This has been going on for months. I'm so disappointed because I truly loved this vet before this experience. **An update based on the response below The MDR1 test WAS recommended to me to do before giving Nexgard. I never requested it, so that is untrue. I did call the manufacturer, and they advised against giving her the medication as well. Other vets also said to not give a dog with seizures Nexgard. We found Park animal Hospital in an emergency situation with our dog who needed surgery because she swallowed a sock. We had gone to the vet that we had been loyal to and although we completely expect a big bill for most things veterinary, there was something wrong with the surgical quote that did not sit right with us. I called my husband and he called Park Animal and I couldn't believe it when Dr Bones actually got on the phone with us! She gave us a ballpark estimate, we would never price shop saving our dog but to be transparent, she did the same exact surgery with the same medications on the original estimate for $2000 less. The hospital is so beautiful and clean and run efficiently. The staff is friendly and they were so concerned and compassionate. We are very grateful to have them as our new veterinarian for our four legged family members! read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this clinic regarding my kitten's recent health concerns. I showed up to Park last Tuesday without an appt because I observed my kitten to be lower in energy, reduced appetite, and pale gums. Techs took him back and said he looked "fine" and "alert", despite me emphasizing a change in his baseline. They basically said it was up to me if I wanted to schedule with the vet. Since I was concerned, I scheduled an appt with my vet the following day with the following symptoms detailed in an organized list: fatigue, excessive grooming/itchiness, pale gums, reduced appetite, litter box accidents, no interest in play, and other symptoms that concerned me. During the initial visit Dr Bones detected some heart issues and referred for an echo. I asked whether bloodwork would be helpful to rule out underlying issues, but was told it was unlikely to provide useful information and that the echo would be the next important step. No guidance provided on signs of worsening condition or what to do if that were to happen. I scheduled the echo for the following week, but continued to worry about my kitten's condition. So, I pursued bloodwork with a different vet a few days later, which revealed anemia, coronavirus, and liver issues. In the midst of all this, my kitten's state continued to worsen. We sent the bloodwork to Park yesterday to see if anything else could be done or any guidance. Unfortunately I did not hear back from Park that day and decided to take my kitten to the ER. After examination from the ER, turns out my kitten likely has FIP -- a potentially fatal disease. Fortunately my kitten will be treated. Today I received the following text message from Park: "Hello, this is Angie from Park Animal Hospital. So I spoke with Dr. Bones and we are not able to fill any medications that were prescribed by another vet hospital. Dr. Bones stated that she is recommending to follow up with the other vet for further assistance moving forward. Any questions please let me know." I was shocked. Dismissed from the practice in a time of crisis for my kitten. Not even a phone call. I wasn't going to return anyway, but I guess they wanted to beat me to it. Lastly, while I understand that veterinary medicine is not always straightforward and that bloodwork would not necessarily have provided a diagnosis earlier, I am disappointed that basic lab work was not pursued sooner despite ongoing symptoms and my initial request for these labs. These labs would have at least signaled that the matter was more urgent and that waiting for the echocardiogram was not an appropriate course of action. My kitten needed further immediate investigation and only bloodwork would have revealed or at least hinted to that. Relying solely on the echo could have been fatal, especially given that I was not provided additional guidance around his potentially worsening condition. read more

Be careful at this vet clinic- they will try to suck every penny out of you. Came in for antibiotics for my dog- an infection he's had before - I did receive the antibiotics (overpriced) but I also received a printout of a bunch of unnecessary tests, meds and treatments that I know my dog didn't need because he's totally ok now after a few days on the antibiotic. And I got an estimate for teeth cleaning and extractions with anesthesia that I didn't ask for or mention in any way. What is going on here? Your customers are not idiots. We're not just gonna say yes to every ridiculous unnecessary test or treatment you suggest. read more

My first visit to Park was to have my elderly cat put to sleep. This was 2 days after my mom passes so I was very emotional. The staff was so kind and supportive, and even provided (free of charge) a lovely vase w/some of her hair and her paw prints. Came back today to pick up her "remains" and brought my dog Penny in to get flea meds. I was able to be seen immediately (without an appointment). My dog got a cut in her mouth that was getting worse, so took her in. Vet said she needed sutures since the cut was very deep. Paid the $600 surgery fee and she got internal "sutures" after 2 days the suture started ripping. I was concerned so I tried calling the office but they decided to not pick up phones whole Friday morning so I decided to take a 45 minute trip to see them. I was concerned and scared her mouth was going to get infected again. The hospital slapped me with another $600 surgery fee. I asked "why am I getting charged another fee for a follow up. I followed the instructions and the suture reopened. Because you are charging me a whole new surgery fee for a follow up, it is an abusable system since you could just make sutures loose and force me to keep coming back." She said "did your dog lick the stitches? If you feel that way, you could to somewhere else." I didn't want to cause a scene to point out how stupid that comment was. It's a mouth wound, sutures are in her mouth how the hell does she not lick it? Do I cut her tongue off and not let her eat? I said, "I am going to pay it because I want my dog to get care and it's going to be a weekend, it just doesn't make sense. I wish I was told this over the phone." The vet did another "suture", with outside "sutures" and gave me anti anxiety pills to give her. She pooped on all my furniture during her naps and been waking me up multiples times a night from 3-5 am to let her go outside to poop also. Couple days later the sutures ripped so I called and the vet said just "Let secondary healing" take place (aka do nothing). I realized how stupid that is since it will just be an open infected wound like how it was on day 1. Also leaving exposed sutures in will cause foreign objects to keep tugging the mouth. I finally agreed with my internal pessimism and suspected the vet of incompetence. I went to see another vet hospital and he did a proper stitch job. (it was properly done because the wound didn't reopen at all) I called park animal to say that I didn't get the service that I paid for because your vet didn't know how to do a proper suture. Instead, I was double charged for his incompetence, suffered lack of sleep, and my dog was at risk of losing her mouth. The receptionist said she will bring up to the manager to call me back. They didn't call me back after 1 week and they didn't turn on their phone systems on a Friday again... If park animal actually reads this review, here is some feedback: do not charge for follow ups it encourages incompetence, turn on the phones even if it's a Friday, actually try to understand how it's like to be a pet owner, if your vet doesn't know how to do something then just refer to someone who does. This was a very painful experience for my family and me emotionally, physiologically, and financially. I trusted Park Animal to take care of my dog, instead I ended up getting scammed. My dog went through those surgeries and drugs with no benefit. My take away is you cannot assume people know how to do their jobs. read more

I love the staff here. They're incredible, knowledgeable, and so kind every time I call with a question or need an appointment. I usually bring my chihuahua mix here for annual appointments. Today, I needed a microchip number for my dog. Our old vet just wouldn't not get back to me with it even though I've called and emailed weeks ago. I decided to hit up Park Animal Hospital to see if they had it by chance. They didn't BUT they told me I could walk in and they can scan the chip free of charge. This took less than 10 min and they kept the number in their database as well - so it's a win win! I don't love their prices but I pay it because I love the amount of care my pup gets every time she's here. read more

I've been a loyal customer of this office for many years and currently have five pets: three dogs and two cats. Dr. Park has always been incredible, but I just found out she is no longer here. I don't know where she's gone, but I'll definitely try to find her because she is amazing! Unfortunately, after today, I'm completely done with this office. The first major issue occurred about a year ago when they sent my small dog home with an IV still in his arm, taped up. Since it was the weekend, we had to remove the IV ourselves. Today was the final straw. The technicians made another serious mistake by administering my dog's oral Bordetella vaccine subcutaneously instead of orally. All 3 of our Bichons have been cared for and treated by many very nice, wonderful and caring Vets over this time. Our most favorite Vet: Dr. Joanne Kang, left Park Animal Hospital last year, and I think I might now know why. Our beloved Moca is 17 years old and we've struggled with putting her down for the past several days. She is suffering from Stage 4 Kidney Disease, and can no longer Stand, Eat or even Poop on her own. She now requires 24 hour care, and is constantly crying and moaning. My wife and I tried to bring her to Park Animal Hospital several times this week, but after scheduling the appointments, we just chickened out. We just love Moca too much, and this has been really hard for us to come to deal with. Today, when I called to schedule another appointment, I was treated like some sort of criminal, because we missed our previous 2 appointments. Not only did they want to DOUBLE CHARGE US for Euthanasia, but their level of concern was almost non-existent. The young girl I spoke with at the Front Desk refused to let me speak with "Doctor Park", and eventually hung up on me. My puppy had some blood in his urine, snd my regular vey is closed today. I came to Yelp and discovered this great place! Called as soon as the opened abs the nice gal got me in at 11:45. I was in abs out within an hour, love that! The staff is very nice and it's super clean and spacious here. We saw Dr Matt Portorti. He was very kind, and listened to my needs. He did a urinalysis and will call me with the results tomorrow. He said my boy looks healthy. I Like the fact they don't push other tests on you here, because every other vet does. We will wait to see the results then decide if any blood work needs to be done. Dr was much more caring then another vet I have visited in Simi. I may end up taking all three of my dogs here now, and skip driving to the valley. I so appreciate them getting me in to be seen today. My dogs are my babies, and the most important to me. So much for loyalty. My son recommended me to Park and frankly, from my very first contact through my most recent, service has been impeccable - from the gal who answered the phone, to the tech, to the dr. Their procedure during Covid has been well thought out, it works seamlessly and this veterinary hospital is always busy. DO NOT TRUST THIS VET. I've been coming to this vet for years, and finally I realized how incompetent the entire staff is. On Friday, May 27th, I called to make an emergency appointment for my dog because he wasn't feeling well. I explained to the person on the phone his symptoms, and she immediately said she cannot see him. I had to call multiple other hospitals for them to see him. Long story short: he died that day. I came in for a check up for my dog for his cough MULTIPLE TIMES to this vet including a few months ago. I really wish I got all of their names -- only vet name I remember is Dr. Park, who I thought I trusted but her diagnosis was SO off. She said his cough was due to chronic bronchitis. A young male vet who saw my dog a few months ago said it's nothing serious. They both said they were shocked by how healthy my dog was for his age. Another long story short: my dog had lung and spleen cancer. When I took him to an emergency vet on Friday, within 2 minutes the vet knew he had cancer and was dying. I spent so much money and time at this vet. I came in to check his leg because he had issues with his leg. He had major surgery. The amount of check-ups and blood work he did SHOULD HAVE shown that he had cancer basically all over his body. If they were COMPETENT then maybe my dog would have survived. I am still SHOCKED by how they couldn't even see my dog when I told the person who picked up the phone his symptoms. She immediately said they didn't have room for him. Funny story is when I called afterwards to tell her my dog died because she wouldn't take them, she THEN said they had space. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN. You guys don't deserve to have a vet open. Vetpet Care Centers is based out of Westport CT and was started by Gino Volpacchio in 2012. This business purchases Vet/Clinic Hospital practices all over the USA. Although Park Animal has higher prices, as of 3/8/22, four out of the six current Veterinarians are recent grads with no prior experience. read more

I just can't do it anymore. This place was fantastic when Dr.Hannah was here. I brought my dog in for a check up appointment. He is terrified of the vet, and this was back when they weren't letting anyone come in. The tech came out to grab him, and instead of being patient and helping him up she dragged him by his leash across the sidewalk and up over the curb as he smacked the side. I was horrified. They then tell me he's done 5 minutes later. They just clipped his nails instead of the full check up. Didn't say a word dropping him back off to me. Then, I tried to call after I thought he had possibly eaten something bad. No answer on either of the phone numbers. Messaging goes around in circles and brings you back to the beginning. I regret going there - and can't even get a return phone call from the office manager- no one there gives a s--t about the animals. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr Park and the crew there! I took my Roxy in because she had a massive bladder stone that needed to be removed and from start to finish, there were no surprises, no hidden fees, everything was discussed before any treatment was administered. You get to go into the exam room with your pet which is very nice! Roxy seemed to be at ease with everyone there even in her condition and she can be stand offish when she's not feeling well! I'm happy to say that Roxy is doing very well now and just about back to normal already! Sunday morning of a holiday weekend our elderly dog ripped a nail so badly he needed surgery. I called many other emergency "24 hour" vets, that were either full, or the vet wasn't in until the late evening, or they just were not open. Park Animal Hospital had us come right over and the vet was calling me within the hour letting us know what would be involved. The staff that came to the car to get our information was so nice and helpful, Dr. Park was so caring and patient explaining everything involved with an elderly dog undergoing anesthesia. And the price was no where near what I had expected given the unfortunate timing. We're just so grateful to the staff and the doctor and our lil guy is doing great. THANK YOU!!! read more

I'm not sure what's happening with Park Animal Hospital. My dog had a tumor removed from his leg several months ago and we had one issue after the other pop up during his recovery. I wasn't going to leave a negative review for that as things happen. However, my 19-year old cat took a dive for the worse. We knew it was time to let him go and of course Park Animal was my first call. I spoke to Samantha and got the details. When she quoted me $300 I was surprised as that fee was much higher then the costs when we had to say goodbye to our golden retrievers. She made a snarky comment about "if you're worried about costs you can go to a shelter." I explained I wanted what was in my cats best interest and was hoping I could bring him in that day (which was a Saturday) and she said the soonest would be on Tuesday. Are you freakin' kidding me? No compassion, no apologies, no trying to fit me in - nada!!! I have been a client ever since I moved to Simi 5 years ago and during this difficult time they/she was unwilling to even try to be accommodating. So disappointing. The last few times I have been there, with set appointments, I have waited well over an hour and it seems pretty clear they've grown too big too soon and have lost the ability to put quality care over making money. On a side note I ended up calling Conejo Valley Animal Hospital and they were amazing. Never being a client over there they went above and beyond to take care of us and although I was heartbroken losing my cat he could not have passed as peacefully as he did in their hands. How do you mess up a prescription not once, not twice, but THREE times? I had to drive across town 4 times because they couldn't write the right prescription or give me the correct information. I also had to find out the hard way that no pharmacy has the exact medication I need for my dog even though I was told by Park's staff MULTIPLE TIMES that I can get this medication anywhere. I was also told that this medication is common and you can get it at Costco with a prescription. Not the case unfortunately. Basically felt like they were stringing me along so they can get me desperate enough to buy the medication at their practice. I tried playing by the rules and we sat in the car for 30 mins while the staff continued to help many other cars that pulled in after us while ignoring my attempts to get service. I'D GIVE A ZERO ISSUES: -I brought my dog in for surgery, and upon picking him up, I noticed a deep incision cut that was nowhere near the surgical site. I was not informed of this properly and had to ask the clinic about it -I had expressed concerns about my dog's symptoms, but they were disregarded as "old age". I finally found a better vet & my dog was diagnosed too late with a now chronic illness because Park Animal disregarded my concerns a year prior. Now 2 years later and the chronic illness (which was AVOIDABLE if Park Animal cared for my dog CORRECTLY) affects my dog's bones and organs. He is on medication for life & his bills are expensive. -Overtime my dog became more and more traumatized from coming here to the point where he never wanted to walk in. He was reactive and scared of the vets but any other vet or groomer he was fine, never needed anxiety medication. RED FLAG Upon emailing Park animal about all my concerns, I was given the runaround, and excuses were made for their negligence. The assistant manager never got back to me after one email exchange. As a result of my experience, I do not recommend this veterinary clinic. The mishaps that occurred during my dog's care were unacceptable, and their lack of attention to my dog's symptoms has caused him to be sick for the rest of his life. My dog had a stomach issue that wouldn't go away. I used to go to a vet in the valley, but wanted to find one closer to home. Of course I relied on Yelp and I couldn't believe with the amount of reviews Park Animal Hospital had and it's a perfect 5 stars. I called them and was actually surprise to get a same day appointment, since my dog is a new patient. The receptionist told me to come in within 30 minutes so I did. I checked in, filled out some paperwork and didn't wait too long until my dog was seen by the vet. My dog was seen my Dr. Hanna and he was sooo good to my dog and was literally was on the ground and was loving my dog. I really appreciate that and just thought he was so caring and sweet to my dog. In the end, I ended up getting antibiotics, blood work, fecal test and a check-up done for a great price. They called me within 2 days to give me the results of my dog's blood work and I appreciate the follow-through, because they were busy and I thought I would have to call them instead. I'm so thankful I found this hospital. I will be taking my dogs here for their future needs. Bobby's Update: We took our senior ChiChi boy Bob in for dental surgery today due to dental disease. Bob's surgery went really well and he's home now. He was such a good boy and the team at #ParkAnimalHospital in Simi took great care of him, especially Nurse Jessica. Love her and Dr Gerster!! Only his lower canines were ok so the doctor decided to leave them to have some support of lower jawone less thing to worry about lol read more
