The animal hospital was amazing!! They took us in immediately every time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very polite and efficient![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They found that my dog had a UTI and eventually bladder stones which required surgery. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in need of emergency services for there pet. Like any urgent care they are definitely on the pricey side. For check-ups and small things they are fairly priced but if you are in need for surgery I'd recommend going to your regular vet. This place was about $5k more for surgery. Which is quite sad because it puts you in a position where you feel helpless and you'd have to choose putting your pet down due to not have enough $. I just have such a hard time understanding how they can be that more expensive when a regular vet can charge a significant amount less. This is a testimony about the amazing staff and care provided by Simi Valley Animal Hospital. The first photo was our dog's foot about a month ago. We had a horrible incident occur: our dog's foot was without circulation for a prolonged period of time and cut almost all the way through her leg all the way around. We took our dog to SVAH for any help they could provide. Her foot was literally dying and we were not certain she would be able to keep it. Every staff member at SVAH showed genuine concern for our dog's well-being and has delivered nothing but excellence time and time again. They have been thorough in their explanations and have not pushed anything on us at all. While our dog still has a ways to go with recovery, she is in good hands and I so very much appreciate the great work SVAH has done to get her to this point. Thank you! read more

Been taking Schmoo here for a year. He's been having hair loss and skin problems for the last few months. Have to be honest I find it ridiculous that they're still implementing the idiotic Covid rules so I sit out here in my car, instead of the exam room, while they tend to hm and examine him. This leaves me to have to talk to the tech, who then talks to vet, to relay the information to me. Not a fan either of vets sending techs out to the car to go over the charges. I find it unprofessional and cowardly. I'd rather the vet look me in the eye when discussing treatments and cost. But the reason I'm not coming here anymore is that I took him here three months ago to have his hair loss and skin issued treated, and spent $2,000 on tests, shampoo, etc. I brought him back for same issue today and the tech comes out with another $700 in charges. Of course I go over them and included in the proposed charges are costs for shampoo I previously bought, and a heart worm test that not only did I pay for but also had prescribed for him TREFEXIS . READ THE GODDAMN chart! He's on medication to prevent it AND i paid for a test two months before. Then, we on our own decide to take him off the trefexis to see if it would help his hair loss and low and behold, his hair is growing back! Why didn't anyone do their job and suggest this before all this expensive and useless testing? Only two explanations for this, either incompetence or money grab, neither of which are comforting. Had I known these guys only aggregate 3.5 stars, I never would've taken him here! Going to find a new vet! read more

They charge for the most ridiculous stuff and don't give you enough meds to cover you pet so you are forced to come back and spend hundreds of dollars again. I will never bring my dog back here. We brought my dogs in for a check up and shots and the performed unnecessary procedure butchering her foot. I was beyond upset. She ended up getting a really bad cyst and badly infected. I took her to Moorpark vetinary hospital after. Luckily they took great care of her and finally is getting better. read more

They took our cat same day for urgent care for a mystery illness. They stabilized her and we took her home to monitor, but she needed immediate attention the next day and they took her right back for a full day of treatment and monitoring. They tell you all of your options but will work with you to help care for your pet within your budget. Our sweet kitty was allowed to come home to recoup in comfort with all the medications and tools needed for her to recover. They are very caring and want what is best for your animal. read more

My dog Ollie Had an 12pm appt. we arrived at 12:11 due to a major detour in result to a fatal motorcycle accident on Erringer and Cochran. Forget the fact that they don't mention their own Covid protocols prior to your visit, but when you arrive to locked doors they have a sign with the telephone number mentioning curbside only!! Great communication! The lady I was speaking too over the phone rudely told me that we were late and they moved on to the next appointment,and due to their overbooking to drop off my boy and they would call me? Excuse me, but my dogs are like my kids. I would never just drop them off at the doctors office alone. My boy has a heart issue and he's very nervous about unfamiliar places without his sister bella boo at his side. This place obviously cares more for $$ than the animals. My puppy had a nodule removed on the back of his leg and it was sent to pathology. They told me there was concern for it being cancerous. About a month after the procedure I received a phone call saying please call them back immediately they needed to review my dogs results. I called and the secretary told me that the vet had an emergency and had to leave. I asked her could she tell me what the results were and she said she was the secretary so wasn't sure just that she needed to call me because they were positive. I started to panick thinking my dog could possibly have cancer. I asked her to please contact the vet right away to contact me. I did not hear back from the vet. I called the next day explained the situation to another vet tech who was kind enough to get the results for me. How are the vet did not talk to me til 3pm the next day. I'm a nurse and would never treat any patient this way. I was mortified. read more

Dr. Stirewalt and her staff are compassionate animal lovers and it shows in every interaction you have with them. I recently relocated to the Ventura county area and was getting frustrated going from vet to vet trying to find someone to work with that was thorough and ethical in their approach to veterinary medicine. I've been impressed by Dr. Stirewalt and her famous "head-to-toe" exams that take longer than most other vets. Some veterinarians will just do a rapid five minute exam and miss many things by not taking the time to be thorough. Dr. Stirewalt is able to notice the fine details that would have been missed at many vets. She also sincerely LOVES animals and cares about them. Her compassion is something that is really apparent upon the first time she meets your pet. Dr. Stirewalt's prices are higher than many other vets in the area, however like anything in life - you get what you pay for. After spending money at other vets that missed things and weren't thorough, I am of the philosophy that I'd rather pay more to have something done right, than pay less to have something done sloppy or have corners cut on the care of my much loved dogs. One thing I've noticed, is that when you take a dog to Dr. Stirewalt for a dental, you are not getting the average dental experience. I learned that Dr. Stirewalt opted to further her veterinary studies by working under a veterinary dental specialist for six months. Her extra education in this particular area is clear when she goes over with you, the dental x-rays, the roots, the bone loss, the teeth, what was done, and wants to make the dental procedure transparent so you can learn what was going on in your dog's mouth. Her dentals are more expensive than many other vets - however, many other vets don't even personally do the dentals, they have a vet tech do the dentals (a little known secret that many pet owners don't know). If you are taking your pet to get a dental somewhere, insist on knowing if your vet is personally doing the dental or if a vet tech is doing it. You get what you pay for and although Dr. Stirewalt's dentals are more expensive, my dogs are getting a thoroughly well done job on their mouths (including the nerve blocks for pain and post op pain medication). I love love love Dr. Stirewalt and highly recommend her to any pet owner that wants the top of the line best care for their pets. If you live within an hour or two of Simi Valley, she is totally worth the drive. read more

My puppy is barely 16 weeks old. We took him in for a poop test that's all.. an examination and a poop test. The doctor said that he needs to be updated on the shots great. Please just treat the puppy for what we brought them in for. Puppy doesn't need rabies right now the dog doesn't need all the other shots right this moment he needs to resolve hisParasite issue. The doctor went ahead without my authority and gave my puppy three shots ..Rabies and two other shots. It's better to be clear with your patients before you go ahead and get everything done and sign to what they're going to do. It's also good to get the prices and the stuff needed so that if you don't have the money to do it all at once you can do it later. I'm not going back to the doctor because number one, I didn't authorize to do three extra shots and number two when I told the staff about it they said OK well let the doctor know ..if you are a good doctor you're calling to talk to the patient about it but I have not heard from the doctor so guess what onward and upward to another vet we will find. Danielle the one that answers the phone is really nice. I have no idea what the test results were I was just told verbally. Who knows if a dog even has anything. And you wonder why people don't bring their dogs to the vet? Expect to pay over double what you're quoted for "routine" procedures. My husband and I took our puppy to Simi Valley Animal Hospital because a friend had recommended Dr. Jennifer Stirewalt. After several visits, we noticed that every time we took our pup to this Dr. Stirewalt, we were up-charged. Wanting to be good puppy parents we just sucked it up and went with their suggestions. The $20 (very small jar) of puppy ass-wipes was the beginning of the end for us. The last straw was having our puppy spayed by Dr. Stirewalt. I called the office for a quote and was told it would be approximately $220 (not including pain meds). Ok - that sounded reasonable, so we booked her procedure. The morning of the procedure, they said it was standard practice for them to charge a little extra (a "cushion") in case they ran into complications, but that they would reimburse us at the end of the day if they didn't need to dip into the cushion. When I picked up my puppy at the end of the day, my $220 quote became a firm $535 charge! We were charged over twice the amount quoted - due to "complications." What complications you ask? Well, apparently my dog's female parts are harder to get to than the typical dog - therefore, the procedure took longer and the doctor had to have another person scrub in, and the incision she had to make was twice as big as a normal cut, which required additional stitches, etc. When we questioned the doctor further on the "complications" line item charge she said, "anatomy is anatomy and surgery is surgery" and that they are running a business and have to be compensated for their time. So if anatomy is anatomy and surgery is surgery, and this doctor is an experienced doctor, why was a "routine" procedure on a healthy normal puppy considered complicated? As far as the office staff goes, Shannon especially, they are a pleasure to deal with. They always greeted our puppy with much enthusiasm. As for the care our puppy received, I do feel that she was treated properly while in their care. But in this economy, we just cannot afford to continue taking our puppy to Dr. Stirewalt where we will be up-charged at every single visit - to the point of over double the quoted amount. read more

I had the opportunity to visit this practice when adopting my dog Wally from Camp Cocker Rescue when I was in California in January 2016. I can honestly say that Dr. Stirewalt and her staff are phenomenal examples of how veterinary professionals should be...I wish I could have packed them up and brought them home to New Jersey to examine my other dog! The veterinary care received is top notch, and Dr. Stirewalt completes the most thorough and extensive head to toe exam on your pet, provides a detailed explanation of what she is doing, explains what she feels is needed for your pet and takes the time to answer any and all the questions you may have. This place was horrible. The only reason I went there was because I won a gift certificate for $100 at a local event. I originally called there to get a quote for vaccinations, and they wouldn't give me a quote, which I thought was weird. I finally went there when my dog got an ear infection. When I got there, they did an examination and everything felt like an upsell. It was like, "would you like to start with an appetizer?" "Can I offer you one of our premium margaritas?" Long story short, they gave me a quote of $580-$670 for the infection. I told them I was going to get another opinion and they still charged me $115 for the visit (thank goodness I had the $100 gift card. I went to my regular vet and they charged me $160 for the whole thing including the office visit and the medicine they sent me home with. Stay away from this place. They are all about the money and not about taking care of your pet. read more

I absolutely trust all of the woman that work there! My Yorkie is like my child (therefor I'm very caushious). They really love her, and are very patent and kind with explaining everything thats going on/involved to me. My dog has gotten x-rays, ultra sounds, teeth cleaning, vaccines, and surgery (miscarriage and spay) at Simi Valley Animal Hospital. They called me throughout the day (while they had her there for surgery), and kept me updated on her condition and what they were doing! Pets cost money. That's a fact. There is adequate vets, good vets and great vets. You get what you pay for. When your own primary doctor suggests treatment, tests, medication, etc., they are covering all basis. Dr. Stirewalt is no different than your own primary doctor - if you have a good doctor. She is a fantastic vet that has the animal's best interest at hand and is so thorough that the choice words of "nickel & dime" is simply ridiculous. Why would you bargain shop vets? After each visit, I have a clear understanding of what is going on with the animal I brought in. And I bring in a lot. I approve procedures, and I decline procedures based on my experience with that animal and Dr. Stirewalt has never suggested or indicated that I am a bad pet owner. It's called communication. Taking the time to build a relationship with your vet instead of "vet hopping" for the best deal in town, is always the practical and smart approach to keeping your pet healthy and happy. Great vet care is expensive. Crappy vet care can be expensive too. And to the owner that was so upset your animal was put in a muzzle, that is common practice in the veterinarian industry and that is being a responsible vet or technician. If you are looking for a thorough vet that takes the time to get to know your pet with no interruptions during your appointment, a vet that explains everything to you in detail and is eager to educate the owner and a vet that you can feel good leaving your pet with, then Dr. Stirewalt is for you. read more
