This is a testimony about the amazing staff and care provided by Simi Valley Animal Hospital. The first photo was our dog's foot about a month ago. We had a horrible incident occur: our dog's foot was without circulation for a prolonged period of time and cut almost all the way through her leg all the way around. We took our dog to SVAH for any help they could provide. Her foot was literally dying and we were not certain she would be able to keep it. Every staff member at SVAH showed genuine concern for our dog's well-being and has delivered nothing but excellence time and time again. They have been thorough in their explanations and have not pushed anything on us at all. While our dog still has a ways to go with recovery, she is in good hands and I so very much appreciate the great work SVAH has done to get her to this point. Thank you!

My dog Ollie Had an 12pm appt. we arrived at 12:11 due to a major detour in result to a fatal motorcycle accident on Erringer and Cochran. Forget the fact that they don't mention their own Covid protocols prior to your visit, but when you arrive to locked doors they have a sign with the telephone number mentioning curbside only!! Great communication! The lady I was speaking too over the phone rudely told me that we were late and they moved on to the next appointment, and due to their overbooking to drop off my boy and they would call me? Excuse me, but my dogs are like my kids. I would never just drop them off at the doctors office alone. My boy has a heart issue and he's very nervous about unfamiliar places without his sister bella boo at his side. This place obviously cares more for $$ than the animals. We will be taking our business elsewhere to true animal lovers!!

Dr. Stirewalt makes every pet feel like they are special with her thorough head-to-toe exam.

Dr. Stirewalt and her staff are compassionate animal lovers and it shows in every interaction you have with them. I recently relocated to the Ventura county area and was getting frustrated going from vet to vet trying to find someone to work with that was thorough and ethical in their approach to veterinary medicine. I've been impressed by Dr. Stirewalt and her famous "head-to-toe" exams that take longer than most other vets. Some veterinarians will just do a rapid five minute exam and miss many things by not taking the time to be thorough. Dr. Stirewalt is able to notice the fine details that would have been missed at many vets. She also sincerely LOVES animals and cares about them. Her compassion is something that is really apparent upon the first time she meets your pet. Dr. Stirewalt's prices are higher than many other vets in the area, however like anything in life - you get what you pay for. After spending money at other vets that missed things and weren't thorough, I am of the philosophy that I'd rather pay more to have something done right, than pay less to have something done sloppy or have corners cut on the care of my much loved dogs. One thing I've noticed, is that when you take a dog to Dr. Stirewalt for a dental, you are not getting the average dental experience. I learned that Dr. Stirewalt opted to further her veterinary studies by working under a veterinary dental specialist for six months. Her extra education in this particular area is clear when she goes over with you, the dental x-rays, the roots, the bone loss, the teeth, what was done, and wants to make the dental procedure transparent so you can learn what was going on in your dog's mouth. Her dentals are more expensive than many other vets - however, many other vets don't even personally do the dentals, they have a vet tech do the dentals (a little known secret that many pet owners don't know). If you are taking your pet to get a dental somewhere, insist on knowing if your vet is personally doing the dental or if a vet tech is doing it. You get what you pay for and although Dr. Stirewalt's dentals are more expensive, my dogs are getting a thoroughly well done job on their mouths (including the nerve blocks for pain and post op pain medication). I love love love Dr. Stirewalt and highly recommend her to any pet owner that wants the top of the line best care for their pets. If you live within an hour or two of Simi Valley, she is totally worth the drive.

    Wally relaxing after his exam!

The surgery went well, and the staff took great care of him throughout the process. Recovery was difficult and took several days because of the nature of the surgery, but the clinic provided everything we needed, including pain medication, antibiotics, and a recovery cone. When I felt my puppy still needed additional pain relief, I returned to the clinic, and they were very helpful and prescribed additional medication without any issues. The staff was kind, professional, and caring. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the level of care and support we received. We truly love Dr. Vigue! We've also seen Dr. Jonah who is also very informative, compassionate and thorough. They take incredible care of my two dachshunds, Vinnie and Bruno, and consistently go above and beyond every single time we visit. I recently had both of my dogs neutered there, and the level of care, compassion, and attentiveness they showed throughout the entire process meant the world to me. Kelsey in particular was absolutely amazing. As a very protective dog mom, I was understandably nervous, and I probably called far more than most people would for updates. Kelsey was so patient, kind, and understanding the entire time. She reassured me, kept me informed, and never once made me feel like I was bothering them. That level of patience and genuine compassion is something you don't come across everywhere. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a veterinary team that truly treats your pets like family.

I called this office specifically because my dog has frequent seizures and I needed guidance on…read moresafe flea prevention for her. I emphasized her seizure history MULTIPLE times during that call. They recommended NexGard and had me pay $75 for MDR1 testing plus a little over $100 for the medication. The problem: NexGard belongs to the isoxazoline class of flea/tick drugs, which carries an FDA warning against use in dogs with a history of seizures, since it can lower the seizure threshold. This is DIRECTLY on the medication's own label! The MDR1 test also isn't relevant to this risk, it screens for sensitivity to a completely different drug class. I raised my dog's seizures as the whole reason I called, and was still steered toward a medication that's SPECIFICALLY CAUTIONED against for dogs like her. I'm now out nearly $200 with no safe solution for her flea prevention, months later. Would like to see more care taken when a pet's medical history is flagged upfront. I would have rather they told me they do not have a solution for me rather than waste my time and money. I have attached screenshots of the emails that completely ignore my concerns. You can see the time stamps and how long I have tried to be patient and get answers. This has been going on for months. I'm so disappointed because I truly loved this vet before this experience. **An update based on the response below The MDR1 test WAS recommended to me to do before giving Nexgard. I never requested it, so that is untrue. I did call the manufacturer, and they advised against giving her the medication as well. Other vets also said to not give a dog with seizures Nexgard. It seems like everyone, everywhere, is aware of the dangers except your office.

I did think that was quite the cash grab, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. After the initial, the quote I received was around $900 for spay, which I thought was outlandish and simply decided to not return. (Spoiler: I was able to schedule elsewhere for TWO of my kittens for under $600) Anyway, it gets worse. Upon receiving a negative internal review from me, they called me to let me know that they happened to be running a promotion on spays. They also let me know there were some procedures they could probably take off to reduce the price (eg nail clipping). Convenient right? I let them know I already scheduled elsewhere, but I was potentially interested in a neuter. This is where it gets even more interesting. Naturally, they jumped on that possibility and "noticed" I didn't get the discounted initial appointment price for my first kitten because apparently I was supposed to mention she was a new patient. You mean I had to see on your website ahead of time and request the discount, rather than just give it to me because it's obvious it would be a first appointment? Ridiculous. But guess what? They were somehow willing to produce a quote for the neuter despite not having an initial appointment, like they required before for the spay. Not to worry, I went elsewhere, to an actual vet who specializes in cats (not a surgery center/spay neuter clinic) and paid around a quarter of the price for both of my kittens who are happy, healthy, and recovering nicely. TLDR: They're overcharging over here.
