My 2 year old daughter LOVES Park Cities Dance! It is such a great place for little ones to go and learn the "beginnings" of dance. We just left the summer dance camp this morning...and there were even little boys having fun with Miss Leigh Ann and the girls! My daughter started going once a week last fall & Leigh Ann Joel teaches the 2-3 year old classes and she is wonderful! She teaches them basic hand/foot coordination, working in a group, following instruction, and they occasionally have dress up day with lots of laughter. I have a very outgoing little one, who walked right into class the first day as if she'd been there a million times. But, one Friday there was a little girl who was dressed in her ballet outfit ready for class, but she was so shy & scared she couldn't bring herself to go in the class. She came back the next Friday, same fear of the classroom (there are never more than 5-6 in the room) and this sweet toddler peered into the window and watched the entire time. After class ended, Leigh Ann took the little 2 year old girl into the ballet room ALONE to have 10-15 minutes of dance and fun, and get comfortable with the room. THEN, Leigh Ann suggested the mom to bring her 10 minutes early the next week, so when class started, the little girl was already comfortable in the room. IT WORKED! Here is what I think: 1) it's clean, professional and very conservative (NO Toddlers & Tiara stuff at this place) 2) the classes are small 3) they require the girls - even toddlers - to dress in plain, conservative, traditional ballet attire (I like this because it's good for the kids to be on the same level with their outfits) 4) they are always happy to make changes in classes based on schedules of the parents 5) the owner & her staff are all professional dancers and VERY talented! I highly recommend this school for their care, professionalism and overall enjoyment of what they do. read more

I am very pleased with PCD. My daughter has been attending classes for over a year, all year round and loves it. The prices are reasonable, not inflated. Ms. Lee Ann is an awesome teacher, so sweet and nice. I know shes about to have a baby but I hope she comes back soon. We've also had a different teacher before her and she was just as nice. Other reviews have made me apprehensive about new teachers but so far I haven't witnessed any of the meanness or berating of kids. I would reccommend this studio to anyone. They have upstairs and downstairs. The staff has always been friendly with me. I like how I can watch my daughter through the outside glass. My only complaint is that the changing rooms stink really bad. A bunch of sweaty girls in tights and leotards is just as bad as a bunch of sweaty jocks in a locker room. I wish they would air it out--at least leave the door open overnight instead of keeping it sealed shut saving the stench for the next day. I cant wait until my daughter is old enough for one of their singing classes. I am going to sign her up for that next. 8/8/14: My daughter just finished the Broadway Babies class! It may be known for great instruction but they have absolutely NO customer service and unless your child is going to be a 'prima ballerina' they don't care. Happy to take your money....but not a professional environment it you are wanting to delve into musical theatre and truly develop triple threat skills. Park Cities Dance is pretty fabulous! The location is great, the studios are beautiful, clean, and spacious. In addition to that, the instructors are definitely top-notch. Oh, and they offer more than just dance, they also have music, vocal, and acting classes. Unfortunately, their adult ballet classes are a little lacking. And expensive. Very expensive, actually. 8 class cards was just shy of $200. A single 90 minute class is $28. I unfortunately had to move to a different studio that offers cheaper adult classes. Other girls in my class also voiced their concern to the instructor about how expensive the classes were. With that said, if you are looking for a high-quality dance education for your child, this is definitely the place. I mean, the studio sent multiple dancers from their Conservatory to YAGP, which is essentially the Olympics of ballet. They also do a ton of shows around Dallas throughout the year. So far, SO bad! The adult 'after dark'' classes, especially any hip hop class, needs to be capped or moved to a bigger studio instead of packed full like a can of sardines. Not to mention people were still streaming through the door 20 min after class began. That's hardly fair. I was stepped on, slapped, and whipped with sweat soaked hair. Dear owner, do YOU want to dance like that?! Yoga studios cap their attendance and lock their doors when class begins to avoid disruption and ensure a pleasant experience for everyone. I registered online and showed up 20 min early. I was smashed into a room of about 40 people where only the pushiest survived. It was NOT the pleasant experience I was looking for. I danced my entire life, it brought me so much joy. Tonight's class was a disgustingly selfish nightmare, sending me home upset, annoyed, and barely having broken a sweat myself but I'm glad you got your $20/head. read more

The staff is incredibly talented and the new studio is modern and clean! Definitely good instruction, just be aware that since they opened the new studio, it's been a bit disorganized with classes ending early or starting late. The owner has created a somewhat elitist reputation by not being very nice or patient with the younger children and their mothers when they're having a bad day; she has argued with the staff in the waiting room right before a class was about to begin (very unprofessional, not loud but that should be done at a different time); some mothers also talk about how she has actually told a couple of young girls that they didn't have what it takes (physically) to be a successful dancer in front of their mothers. However, the rest of the staff is very professional, which almost makes it worth it, almost. read more

Not sure what the last reviewer is talking about. First, tiger mothers don't do dance. Read the book. In any event, this place is wonderful for kids. My almost 3 year old asked to take dance lessons and so I did my homework, as usual, before settling on a place. Park Cities Dance is the best in the community. Period. If you want to go play, take your kid to Little Gym. If you think, like me, that as long as your child is taking dance class, then let's take real dance class, this is the place. They do have strict rules - what to wear, showing up on time, etc. - but I love that. My daughter's teacher could not be sweeter and my daughter loves going to dance as, apparently, do the rest of the children in her class. There is no crying in my daughter's class. Perhaps, if your child is crying, he/she may not be ready for structured class setting or may not enjoy dance. read more

My 4 year old attends class at PC Studios (we were at Preston Center Dance before, and plan to go back, but wanted to try something new). There isn't really a way to see your kid during practice... they shut the blinds, or for one studio you have to stand outside... :/ The instructors are not very sociable... I introduced myself and my daughter to her on her first day and the instructor responded with "sorry I have another class".... Also, I put my cc for auto payment, and then I received a notice that I was being charged at $35 late fee (card expired)... the entire month of dance is $80... and a $35 late fee.... what about last week when the sub instructor was 15 min late to a 40 min class.... can I charge them a $35 late fee.... read more

OK, after a VERY rocky start, I admit it got a lot better. The teacher came in on time and was very professional; she is very good with little kids and i would recommend that you go here. I am CERTAIN they knew I wrote the review and to their credit they did not complain or try to change my mind and did not treat me "meanly" or unprofessionally at all. We just kept going to class and the teacher kept showing up (Yay!) and so it went much better after the first four sessions. I do believe that it really was just the world's worst luck for that particular instructor so I'll let bygones be bygones. I am not pleased with PCD. Although the staff and instructors are the best, the owner creates an atmosphere where the children's self confidence is diminished by the way she plays favorites, makes rude remarks, ignores those she is angry with. You never know what mood you are going to get with her and she is habitually late. She has a level system and the kids are given different colored leotards for their levels. There are many moms who buy levels by private lessons for their child at $150 hour. There are many children in higher levels that aren't as advanced as those in lower levels. Your child will continually be dangled a carrot by the color of leotard and the desire to get to the next level. She can be manipulative and promise advancement but if you aren't on her good side she will play the take away game. She can be snarky and mean to her employees as well. Park Cities Dance is the most expensive studio in the city and it can get expensive as sending your kid to private school. read more

I was really excited about Park Cities Dance based on their website and yelp reviews and have been pretty disappointed, sadly. The studio space is beautiful and spacious but there are almost no adult ballet classes offered. They only offer Absolute Beginning Ballet one day a week and an Intermediate class one day a week. The intermediate class is only an hour long, $20 for an hour class is expensive. If an instructor can't make class, the class is canceled because there is no one to fill in. It's too bad I bought 10 classes, my class has been canceled for three weeks in a row because there is no substitute instructor. I emailed and requested longer ballet classes and another Intermediate class during the week because I would attend and never got a response back. read more

I don't care for this place. The office staff really lets you know if your kid is "exceptionally talented" or not which I find rude and unnecessary. The prices are steep and our instructor was late a lot for class. Not a good place for the average kid who wasn't born with natural talent. read more

Park Cities Dance is and has been a great company since my wife and I first the owner 3 years ago. My wife Lee Ann works here and PCD has been a great employer through her tenure. The quality of their instructors is also second to none. From the facility to the shows, PCD is unmatched and always exerts professionalism. Adults should try another studio for classes. The whole studio is noisy, busy and chaotic. The world of dance is supposed to be beautiful and polite. I feel overwhelmed when I walk into this studio. Classes rarely start or end at the scheduled time. How beautiful or polite is that? The only effective way to communicate with the staff is through email. This is not the best method for me, but I have no other choice. Trying to speak to an instructor face-to-face is difficult at best. I have yet to be successful at it. People might ask why I stay at Park Cities Dance if I am not very happy there. It is because I hate to waste my hard-earned money. In the future, I will take my money and my dancing shoes to another studio! read more

For the hefty price I paid, I felt like my experience was quite short of ideal. To start off, I might as well list the pros. The staff is quite talented, and all of them have full resumes of impressive experience in show business. They also have a guest staff of professional actors, singers, and dancers, including Tony-winning actress/singer/dancer Elizabeth Parkinson. The studios are nice and clean, although they tend to get very cold, and the studio does not allow sweaters, shrugs, or long sleeve leotards. If you are looking for a good center to take lessons for singing and acting, this may be your place to come. Doug Miller, the primary teacher of Singing/Acting classes, is both friendly and talented, and is good in working with kids of all ages and levels. Despite the excellence of the Singing/Acting program, their Dance program is a completely different story. If you are not a top-level competition ballet dancer with near perfect attributes (e.g. beautifully arched feet, natural flexibility, broad turn out, etc.) expect to be ignored. The studio seems to have a lack of available teachers, and often times, my class was combined with a larger, more advanced class. This intimidated many of the less advanced dancers, as the teacher fully expected the younger girls to be on par with those who had been dancing for years. The studio also has a "leotard dress code," which codes each level by color. The leotards had to be specially ordered through the studio (extremely inconvenient and unnecessary) and the straps were non-adjustable. I found that many girls with different body shapes felt uncomfortable in the leotards, as they either did not fit them properly or exposed to much. The management at the studio is not impressive. The person running the office (takes calls, signs students up for classes, orders leotards, etc.) is often stressed and crabby. On top of that, every time I came in, I was constantly being pressed to sign up for more classes. When I told them I was perfectly happy with the amount I was taking (and frankly I couldn't afford much more), I was told that I would never be able to make a professional career if I didn't sign up for more, even though I have no interest in going into show business. When coming here, consider yourself lucky if you are able to avoid the owner. She is quite arrogant, and any students who do not meet the requirements of pre-professional talent will either be ignored or rudely lambasted. She is not afraid to get mean with students when she wants to. One of the biggest problems with this studio is that they are just simply too big. They are constantly letting kids into the conservatory on a whim, and they have more students than they can afford to cater to. Because of this, there are only about 10-15 students that truly get undivided attention and guidance from the instructors. Also, due to the studio's high, near-professional standards, moving up the levels and getting on pointe is much more difficult then it would be at a regular, recreational studio. My advice would be: if you are a top-level dancer planning on a career in ballet or contemporary dance with plenty of money bags to cover the price tag, I would say give Park Cities Dance a shot. However, if you are dancing for recreation or fun and are happy with two-four classes a week, try Power House or a smaller studio. You will enjoy yourself much more and have a better chance at advancement. read more

I took my daughter here when she was about 3 1/2. Jaqueline treated the 3 year olds like professional dancers...great if you want to force your kid into the hard-knocks world of professional dance regardless of the psychological impact. my daughter and another little girl cried at various times during the class b/c of Jaqueline's treatment towards them and generally gruff attitude...the music she played was so loud, it hurt my adult ears...can't imagine what was going on in the poor little kid's ears. several kids were totally freaked out by it and said so, but she just kept saying how it's loud on broadway, too! you could tell by her fake nice attitude that she really didn't like kids, but just gave the classes since there was a desire in the neighborhood for dance/ballet for little ones. i've seen the older girls who study here perform and it is definitely VERY impressive, thus my reason for any stars at all in my rating. i have no doubt this is likely the best school in dallas for serious professional level dance instruction, but i do not advise anyone with very young children who have a very basic desire for a fun class for their little boy or girl to take classes with Jaqueline. She's not kidding around, and she won't hand out any warm fuzzies. This place is hardcore. If you're a tiger mother, go for it. Otherwise, find another dance studio that actually cares about the overall well-being and happiness of your child. "did you have fun" is not going to be asked by anyone at Park Cities Dance. read more

This is one of the most unfriendly dance studios in Dallas. The front desk staff picks and chooses who they will acknowledge that day. I don't really care what people think, most of the time, but this place was a bit unbearable in it's unfriendly atmosphere. I got the feeling that they really didn't need or want my money. However, I was miserably stuck there for a semester, since I had paid for it. I was relieved when the contract was over. Yay!!! There are much better dance studios with awesome dance instructors in the area with a much more friendly and professional atmosphere. A big BOOOOOO, and a thumbs down to this place. I would not recommend this dance studio for small children. My daughter is taking her first year of ballet (she is 5) and I am seriously considering pulling her out of classes. There is one teacher (Miss Leanne) who is great with small children. We now have a rehearsal class with another teacher (Miss Allison) and in 3 rehearsal classes I have watched one little girl go to the bathroom on herself because she was so afraid to ask the teacher to go to the restroom, I've listened to Miss Allison berating the girls very loudly for not remembering the choreography they learned the week before and then watched her open the door and yell at a child leaving the studio, "you'd better really have to go to the bathroom!" My daughter cried on the way to class and then cried on the way home. She loves dance. This has nothing to do with her not having an interest. Perhaps older girls who are seriously dedicated would thrive in this environment but I am appalled at the way they are treating very small children. read more
