We just left the summer dance camp this morning...and there were even little boys having fun with Miss Leigh Ann and the girls! My daughter started going once a week last fall & Leigh Ann Joel teaches the 2-3 year old classes and she is wonderful! She teaches them basic hand/foot coordination, working in a group, following instruction, and they occasionally have dress up day with lots of laughter. I have a very outgoing little one, who walked right into class the first day as if she'd been there a million times. But, one Friday there was a little girl who was dressed in her ballet outfit ready for class, but she was so shy & scared she couldn't bring herself to go in the class. She came back the next Friday, same fear of the classroom (there are never more than 5-6 in the room) and this sweet toddler peered into the window and watched the entire time. After class ended, Leigh Ann took the little 2 year old girl into the ballet room ALONE to have 10-15 minutes of dance and fun, and get comfortable with the room. THEN, Leigh Ann suggested the mom to bring her 10 minutes early the next week, so when class started, the little girl was already comfortable in the room. IT WORKED! Here is what I think: 1) it's clean, professional and very conservative (NO Toddlers & Tiara stuff at this place) 2) the classes are small 3) they require the girls - even toddlers - to dress in plain, conservative, traditional ballet attire (I like this because it's good for the kids to be on the same level with their outfits) 4) they are always happy to make changes in classes based on schedules of the parents 5) the owner & her staff are all professional dancers and VERY talented! I highly recommend this school for their care, professionalism and overall enjoyment of what they do.

Belinda had been very professional and accommodating with my scheduling/billing and matched me up with Tenay. I loved working with Tenay and just like Belinda she was friendly, professional, and made my private lessons super fun. Six months later, I have reached my goals and I now feel at ease on the dance floor. I am super grateful to this studio, Belinda and Tenay for allowing me to build my skill set. The studio is clean, professionally run, and these are genuinely nice people. I'd highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks, ladies!

My friend and I decided to be brave and take a "Barre Sculpting" class for adults last Tuesday…read moreevening. After looking up exactly what barre sculpting is, I was a little bit nervous, since I don't usually do the whole physical activity thing... But I went to the class anyway, determined to get a dancer body for what is left of the summer. The facility is beautiful and new; the color schemes and cubbyholes (yes, cubbies!!) made me wish I was 7 again and could attend the kids' dance classes during the day! Holly, the owner, was enthusiastic and kind, and made my friend and I feel like we were regulars, not newbies. The class itself was really fun and a great workout. It's structured in a way that is fast-paced, but not too intense where you get lost while following along. The music selection was fantastic and I loved that Holly actually went through all the moves with her students so you would have an example. After the hour-long class, my friend and I left feeling energized and accomplished, not wrung-out and exhausted. Overall, I would rate my experience at Preston Hollow Dance as excellent and would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to go back for another class!

This is quite possibly one of the most fun things that I've signed up to do. I joined the 4 week…read more(4 Monday classes) of the swing/lindy hop (the Granddaddy of swing) beginner's class. It cost $50. Wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but when the instructions said to dress comfy, and that you didn't need a partner I assumed we would be dancing by ourselves. Wrong. You switch partners every so often so you end up dancing with every male in the class, and some of the females. I haven't been to a dance club in a decade, and I'm pretty sure what I was doing back then was not dancing, and I've never attempted any type of swing. I definitely stumbled over my feet a dozen or so times, or only stepped two steps when we were doing a triple step. The way they break down each step is helpful. You watch the 2 instructors, and then practice a few times with your assigned partner for the minute. Then you start from the beginning, and by the end of the class you have a fun routine. The leaders (usually the guys) could improvise a little too. Maybe twist you around a few more times or what not. The room was hot on one side, but they had fans to help circulate the air. There were probably 40 people in the class, so it's not a time to be shy. Overall, this was a great way to burn some calories while doing something out of the norm. Even though I felt like an idiot at times, you have to start somewhere, and no one is there to judge. I'm looking forward to next Monday!
