My fiancé brought me here for dinner and my first ever experience with Ethiopian food, and we agree that there is just nothing quite like this in Dallas. The food was absolutely delicious: spongy, tasty injera and the most flavorful and exciting veggies I've had since moving here. The lamb stew was rich and deep with a subtle, sneaky spice. Jonas was so welcoming, friendly, and informative: he gave great recommendations and was so kind to talk us through the different dishes, treat us to sambsas, and make us feel so welcome. Wonderful wonderful place!! I imagined the shop would be bigger but it's a very small and humble place. I was greeted so warmly by the owners sister who was incredibly nice. They have a variety of Ethiopian spices and goods. They have pre-made doro wat, ayib, injera and other meats and vegetables to-go so you can pick those up here if you don't want to cook at home. Also, they have 3 tables where you could sit and eat which is wonderful because they do serve food as well. I bought berbere, mitmita, yellow lentils, cardamom pods for $16. Right now they have lots of carrots..just an fyi. For the quantity the price was great! I'll try the spices soon but I am happy to have found my new Ethiopian grocery store. I can't wait to try their cooking when I go back! This is a side note but I put the address in my GPS and I still got lost trying to find the shop in the Vickery Meadows area. If you use Google Maps, it'll take you across the street from the location (just an fyi). Also, its not in the nicest neighborhood but that didn't bother me. read more

The 1st time I attempted to try their food I called ahead to place a to go order. Google says they close at 9:30, I called at 9 only to be told they were closed. My 2nd attempt I went on a Sunday night, Nov 14. The lady working the counter was SO RUDE! When I walked in there was a guy in front of me at the cash register having a lively conversation with the cashier. I waited and waited and waited for her to acknowledge me. FINALLY the guy she was having a conversation with pointed at me and motioned for her to help me. (They were speaking in their language.) she continued her conversation with him a little while longer. When I finally get to the counter I ask for a menu because there is none posted anywhere. She replies, "Look online." What kind of restaurant doesn't have a menu?! Or at least a QR code for me to scan? I left. Went to my car and googled the restaurant menu. Called back inside to place a to go order only for her to tell me they don't have the lamb tibs that were on the menu. I left. I returned Tuesday afternoon on nov 16th after successfully calling in and placing a to go order of lamb tibs with a side of gomen. There was a much nicer lady working the resister. Friendly and fast. The food was ok. Standard ethiopian food. Arif cafe across the streets version is more flavorful. This restaurant is also a grocery store and food is expected to be taken to go. But there are two small tables off in a corner if you just eat inside. The store is located in a strip mall in a sketchy area. But that's beside the point. read more

This is my new go to Ethiopian place. I can't believe I never saw this place. The place is in a hole in the wall spot located in a shady area full homeless with their tents, crackheads, immigrants but they don't bother nobody. Don't let that stop you from coming. The food was so good. I usually drive to Addison to my favorite Ethiopian spot but not any longer since this is down the street from me. So far, I had the doro wot, vegetable plate and bought a container of her homemade awaze sauce which was tasty and is delicious to dip injera bread and meat in. I also bought a container of ayib cheese. They also had ready-made food in the refrigerator section like freshly prepared fried rice or already made Ethiopian food with noodles. It looked good, so maybe I'll try the refrigerator foods next time I come back. But other than that, the food items on the menu are cooked and specially made. This hole in the wall place can give the larger spots a run for their money. read more

This is a small little "store" which sells ready made food and I think you can eat there as well. The first time I went, they were closed and I thought they were out of business. I went to another Ethiopian place and they were closed too. So, I was quite disappointed. Then, I was driving by and saw they were open and promptly veered into the parking lot to get my fix of Ethiopian food. I read the reviews and was looking forward to some good stuff. And, I was not disappointed. I initially got the red lamb and yellow lentils (containers are huge and I ate it for 3 days!), and injera. All were supertb! I asked whether they had any smaller portions of injera but they said they will eat it all and for $5, I guess I could eat it for a while. It was so good, that I went back and got red chicken and tried yellow lamb this time. Also, very good. The people are really nice and I love the food. I also picked up berbere and shiroh so I have that to use. But they have all sorts of Ethiopian spices and flours, it is a must little place to go to if you want to enjoy Ethiopia in Dallas. Oh yes, when I asked why they were closed, they told me the only day they close is for Ethiopian Easter, which also made sense why the other place was closed. Go and try this place because the portions are big, the prices are reasonable (I think) for takeout and the flavor is excellent. Yum Yum!! read more

I really wanted to like this place. The strip mall is a dump, and so is the strip mall across the street. This strip of Dallas really need a do-over, even though I have to admit, it's also amusing to see the Mexican, Burmese, Pizza, Mexican, Fruteria, and other weird assortment of places come together here. But unfortunately... they're all a dump. All but this Ethiopian place, that is, which really stands out as the nicest looking and the most friendly place along the strip. I was helped by someone who was enjoyable to talk with, and he explained the menu very well. The store was well decorated, and people were frequently coming in and out - if for anything, then it was for the injera bread (these were selling like hotcakes). I was even surprised that they had panettone - but like someone said, it's attributable to the Italian influence Ethiopia and nearby Eritrea had witnessed. And the funny thing is that I even recognized the brand, since I used to see it all the time in pretty much every market in Miami (it's a Brazilian brand, btw). Anyways, walking in, you're bound to smell something delicious. I had no expected this since the name of the place is Food To Go - meaning I had the impression that it was food already made, for easy take-out... so cooking would be at its minimal. Boy, was I wrong. When I walked in, I knew I should order something. And when I asked for the menu, I didn't expect it to be large enough that it would be able to fold over. They had plenty of choices to choose from. I was recommended the Lamb Tibs (chunks of lamb, sautéed in seasoned butter, garlic, onions, berbers (powdered red pepper), fresh tomato, and jalapeño pepper), Kifto Dulet (lean tender chopped prime beef seasoned with spiced butter and "mistime" (powdered small chili pepper and red pepper) sautéed with onions, garlic, and jalapeño peppers, and the Doro Wot (chicken leg seasoned with onions, garlic, fresh ginger, hot peppers, and simmered with berbers sauce (served with hardboiled egg). And I leaned to the Kifto Dulet. And since I don't eat spicy food, I asked it to be extremely mild. He asked if I could have it a little spicy, and I emphasized that it could be a teensy little bit spicy. And that's where I made my mistake. Upon taking this home, and taking a bite - I still needed to grab something else to take the spiciness away. I should have said "not even a teensy little bit spicy" for next time since it doesn't seem like the cook in the kitchen even know how to moderate the level of spiciness. I unfortunately ended up not being able to eat much of it. All I can vouch for is that the quality of the food was good, and the customer service you'll get here is not gonna be better anywhere else. And the food is fair, considering the large portions. I'm willing to give this place another try, after having a talk with them to see if they could make it even less spicy. If not, then I guess this place isn't for me. read more

I split the veggie platter and lamb tibs with my friend. The food was EXCELLENT, the lady at the counter was super nice and hospitable and overall a really good food ordering experience. i been going here for years and they have good food and it smell good, but now their injera bread they sale is not as fresh as it use to be..it use to be so soft and fresh but now i dont no to keep buying or not because they seem like the only place that sale this injera bread..i wish they would start back having fresh and soft injera bread..and the bread is less bread they sale in the plastic bags.. read more

My friend from work recommended this place. I've never experienced Ethiopian food. I am glad that I had a chance to try. Along with another friend of ours from work we made outing of Friday lunch. The place is tiny in the tiny strip mall but it was packed. Besides us three, all appeared to be Natives which is always a plus. We shared Veggie place and Beef Plate which they combined to one big plate for three of us to share. They placed Beef, Beans, Greens, Potato's and lintel (All flavored different) on to their signature bread which has constancy of terry cloth. You wrap the food in the bread and eat it with your finger. Food tasted pretty flavorful. My favorite was their version of Greens. The bill came out to be $28.00 which is high for my standard for lunch. I will rate this place at 3.5 Star for the flavor not quite 4 because of the price. read more

I was visiting a friend in Keller and decided that while in Dallas I had to check for a notable Ethiopian place. This particular spot did not originally pop up on my search but I spotted it en route to another market/restaurant. When I walked in, it was quiet. I was kindly greeted by the woman behind the counter. I asked if they served lunch and the woman told me yes and asked if I wanted vegetarian or meat. I requested vegetarian and took a seat. 10 minutes later, a wonderful platter arrived. Now, I haven't experienced good Ethiopian food in a few years (since my fav place in my hometown closed down). This hit the spot! It was a platter of the classics (mesir, fosolia, etc) served with a generous portion of injera. If I lived in Texas, I would be a regular here, no doubt. And in case you're short on time, the market sells fresh (FRESH!!!) injera and pre-packaged food to go in the refrigerator. If this isn't enough to convince you, while I was there (about 20 minutes total) I saw a good ten people come in to buy their injera. It was flying off the shelves. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. And don't forget to take some injera to go! read more
