I need to talk about Central Market on Lovers Lane and I need to talk about BP and I need to talk about the produce section and I only have so many words so let's move. The produce section first because if I do not address it immediately I will think about it the whole time. Walking into the Central Market produce section is the closest a grocery store has ever come to making me feel like a child at Disney World. Not Disney World adjacent. Not Disney World inspired. Full Disney World. There are colors happening in that produce section that I did not know vegetables were capable of. Heirloom tomatoes in seventeen shades. Peppers that look like they were designed by an artist who was told to make a pepper but make it fashion. Mushrooms with names I cannot pronounce displayed like they are artifacts from a civilization that understood fungi better than we do. I have walked in there for one specific item and come out forty minutes later with things I have never cooked before and a quiet optimism about my future in the kitchen that has not always proven accurate but always feels real in the moment. I went once just for garlic. One head of garlic. I left with dragon fruit, three kinds of fresh pasta, a bunch of herbs that required me to look up two of them when I got home, and a wheel of cheese that I told myself was practical. It was not practical. I regret nothing. Now BP. BP runs the prepared foods counter at Central Market Lovers Lane and is the reason I sometimes drive there when I am not even hungry. BP was a high school math teacher in California for years. Years. Shaping young minds, writing equations on whiteboards, presumably grading papers on weekends with the quiet resignation of someone who has chosen a noble and exhausting profession. And then at some point BP looked at California, looked at Dallas, made a decision, and moved. He did most of the moving himself. I want you to think about that. This man, who spent years teaching mathematics, looked at a truck full of his belongings and said I will handle this personally. The kind of move that requires a certain stubbornness and also a pretty solid understanding of spatial reasoning which, given the math background, he had covered. BP is now behind the prepared foods counter at Central Market and is genuinely one of the warmest humans I have encountered on either side of a deli case. He talks to you like he has time, which in a prepared foods counter context is unusual and should be protected at all costs. He knows what is good that day. He will tell you. You should listen. Excellent store. Exceptional produce section. BP is the best part of the prepared foods counter and possibly of Lovers Lane entirely. read more

I was first introduced to Central Market by a friend who lived in the area (I live about 25 minutes away so I would of never known about this store) As a person who enjoys cooking, grilling, flowers, and is a huge foodie, I absolutely LOVE this store! I picked up fresh lobster tail for a reasonable price and was very impressed when the deli man asked if I wanted it on ice! Of course since I live a little ways out. This is an elevated grocery store with so much unique finds you won't see at any other grocery store (quail egg's & fresh octopus!) Another plus I love (and the reason I'll frequent more often) is their $1 roses! I love fresh flowers at home so I'll be returning to make my own bouquet. Plus the customer service is great too! Wow, what a great day shopping at CM. Where this Central Market is Not the closest to my home, the ONLY reason I came here yesterday was because at this location, CM has Lone Star Knife Sharpening every Friday from 12-4:00. Casey who owns Lone Star knows his craft and does it well. And at a fare price too. I have had other companies try to sharpen my Chef knives, but no one does it so professionally like Casey. And just in time for the Holiday cooking!!! Casey has sharpened my knives for 10 years now. I have seen him do miracle things to knives that have lost the tip or their edge. I like all the central market locations, but this one is my favorite. The people are really nice and I like the assortment.

This was my first in n out experience haha but loved the weekday visit where items previously not in stock were in like matcha which I was able to score today. I love that even in the early afternoon there are still fresh croissants available and don't look like the pick of the litter. I love this place so much!! My only disappointment was the tiramisu slice I picked up which lacked completely in coffee flavor. It just tasted like a sponge cake. I was really hoping for a slice of espresso heaven when I took a slice and unfortunately it didn't meet the mark. read more

Such a cool grocery store with nearly anything you could want: fresh pressed juice, produce, house made desserts, a stellar cheese selection, bulk foods and spices (bring your own reusable jar to fill!), olive bar, and so much more. My *only* qualm is that if you're there first thing in the morning, it can be a challenge to get anything out of the packed ice. Looking forward to future visits. read more

Simply adore their hot bar and salad bar area. They have so many options and variety. If you have dietary restrictions they likely have you covered. If you have questions the folks behind the counter are friendly and knowledgeable. Weekdays especially after 3 pm are always crazy with longer lines. Going earlier in the day is preferable. Special shout out to the fact that CM makes their own kombucha now. I am absolutely a fan. read more

My last update was 2021 but I've been here many times since then. I don't like this store as much as the Plano store, however,it gets the job done. It seems they've recommitted to a full blown " upscale" grocer. For awhile I was wondering if they valued the customer. The one thing that stood out today was,I helped bag my own groceries. While waiting in line I noticed most customers bagging their own. Two reasons this bothers me. 1) I come here and pay premium prices because I don't like to bag 2) the new in town HEB stores( of which own CM) are bagging for you? I'm not so sure the new " Regular" HEB doesn't satisfy my needs just as well as Central Market. I guess only time will tell. For today I have ingredients for a great seafood dinner so I'm happy. Love Central Market. Better prices than Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck), especially on produce. They have amazing fresh baked breads I love to nomnom on after a long run (or really anytime). I come here mostly just when I'm in Dallas for my favorite specialty treat foods. They have a fun selection of things to explore. The store has a welcoming ambiance, and the seating area has cute fresh cut flowers on the tables (today I am accompanied by a pink and yellow rose). I also love the Alyssa's vegan oatmeal raisin cookies. They're basically only sold here, Whole Foods, and Natural Grocer's. Even though I don't usually buy too much here, I always leave feeling so cheery for having stopped by. The salad bar is a great special occasion treat. Some of my favorite memories are actually meals shared at Central Market with loved ones. :) read more

Hot food bars, smoothie stand, an actual cafe, a deli counter where sampling is encouraged, a bakery where sampling is also encouraged. I mean seriously, what a fun and inviting place to visit. As always the products in the store are top notch. I have always loved the atmosphere of the store. I have shopped here over 20 years...I met the manager there today..I may be misspelling his name but I believe it was Molinas. He happened to be on an isle when I was asking another associate for some gelatin sheets...the employee said "no sir, we don't carry those" the manager then stepped up and said hang on for a minute. He said I will find you in the store...I continued to shop as I was leaving the bulk spices section the manager came around the corner with a few sheets for me. He said, "I know that my bakery uses them in their day to day production, so I went and got you some!" He got me some and charged me a fair price for them...if I wasn't already, he won a customer for life. Thank you sir for going above and beyond for a customer..that is rare in this day and time. I stopped and the deli to pick me up some delicious luncheon meats. Variety and freshness in produce has been poor this year. Trying to ask most employee's anything is like pulling teeth. They seem inconvenienced like you offended them, Especially in the meat department. I called to reserve some short ribs. Man on the phone told me that he did not need to take my order because we had more than enough. When I showed up, they said they were all gone and all they had were the Dino ribs. I mentioned that there were not much meat on those ribs and he informed me that the bone is bigger on that end so there's less meat and that the next day they would be getting short ribs in so I put in an order. I called to see if the order was filled. They said yes come pick it up whenever you're ready. I went in and the Dino ribs that had been there from the day before is what they cut down a short ribs for me. There was literally about a quarter inch of meat on the bone no way I could use this as a center of a plate, dinner rib. They could've called and let me know that they didn't get the order of short ribs, but instead they tried to pass off this inferior product on me and hope I wouldn't know the difference.(I left a picture below of what they were trying to sell me as short rib.) out of the 16 that I ordered there was only about four of them that were decent. I talked to the girl in the Meat department. She said they can never really tell what's coming in so I had her put a new order in for me. When I was telling her about this, the other man behind the counter was scowling at me with that thousand yard stare. Like I offended someone in his family. I went and spoke with a manager about my concern for getting the product that I needed. And that I had done this four days early that way I could really make sure that I had the product. He passed me along to the meat manager. The meat manager came and listened to what I told him and gave me a bunch of excuses of why they couldn't get good product in and that they didn't have any control. Then he promised me that the following day he would make this right and that they would make sure that I had my order. The following day I got a phone call telling me that they could not get my order. Luckily, I had already had an intuition that they were going to let me down, ( this was not my first experience with being let down by this meat department ) and I went to a real butcher. "Deep cuts" in Richardson. They were able to get me what I needed within 10 minutes and it wasn't even butchered it as of yet. I am sad to say that I've seen this Central Market go downhill in over the past couple years, in service and quality and variety. Used to be able to buy hangers steak they don't carry it anymore, I was able to get veal bones there cannot get them anymore. And when you ask for something that they don't have the people working behind the meat counter are more than happy to tell you that they can't get it for you. They seriously look like War torn soldiers that have no life in their eyes anymore. It used to be you were going in there and people in grocery would ask you if you need help now they just put their head down and hope you don't say anything to them. I don't know if this store went through a new management, but it used to be a really great place to shop and now I fret every time I know I have to go in there. I shopped there because my clients want me to, but even they say they don't like going to the store anymore. I'm much rather shop at the one on Midway people there are way better. I have seen the big guns( corporate )in here, standing around staring at counters and displays and talking to each other. And they won't say anything to you either. You can tell the culture here is horrible place to work. Everybody here looks miserable. Nobody wants to go out of their way at all to help the customer. Actually, there's been one lady that was in the cheese department who helped me. I don't remember her name. She spoke broken English, but she went and grated some cheese that they were out of for me and did it with a smile. read more

I love the prepared food at Central Market, especially their rotisserie chicken. Went to this location and was picking up dinner. I stopped at the bakery to search for biscuits but could not find what I was looking for. I asked the guy working in the bakery department, and he tried to tell me they were seasonal for 2 weeks out of the year. I told him I've bought them year round at the Preston location, and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. That was the extent of his customer service. Super annoyed and disappointed, I put my food back and left. Will not be shopping at this location anymore. The "i dont care" attitude of this generation of employees is really crap. I love the variety of products, groceries items, and food to go at Central Market. All their fresh food is so fresh, clean, and fairly priced. I like how you can weigh your own items and print your sale ticket with their electronic scales. I like to get my lunches for work here. In their to go section, they offer a salad and soup bar, sushi, fried chicken, and a lot of other great lunch options. I like to change it up everyone I go! Where have you been all my LIFE I'm an avid WF/Sprout/Trader Joe's Girl and was asked by a family friend who knows my relationship with quality organics and one off items that can only be found in certain stores, if I heard of CM.I am new to Texas so I hadn't heard of CM and was pleased when I arrived with my family. Upon entering the staff was friendly and our children were offered balloons. We got a cart and started through veggies, when I say MUSHROOMS GALORE I mean it. They had EVERY mushroom I've searched for and had to go to certain stores for. I get my protein from mushrooms mainly and make anything from vegan steak to vegan chicken to vegan tacos and more. The fresh herbs are amazing as well and come freshly pulled and only need to be added to water once you return home. The meat section is overwhelming for me as I am not a meat eater and some of the FISH displayed is larger than my 5 year old son. My husband dabbles in meat so he enjoys that section. The gelato counter upon exit is the icing on the cake for my children as they work hard to help us with the groceries to expedite the exit at the gelato counter ;-) I can say that CM is a part of our rotation now when it comes to getting groceries. As a tourist from Canada, I always love visiting local supermarkets and found this place not too far from our hotel. We like stocking up on snacks for our room and just enjoy checking out different types of food available compared to back home. This supermarket is beautiful, large parking lot, lots of room and so much selection! Upon entering, the first area is for produce, plenty of fruits and veggies, fresh squeezed juice and a real market feel, kind of like Trader Joes's. I could tell this was a higher end store. Once you move through the aisles, there's really everything you could need and more. Large selection of wine and beer, huge cheese counter, deli, butcher and ready made foods. All the fresh items made on site like baked goods or pastas for example looked delicious. We already had lunch but couldn't resist and ordered a serving of mac and cheese and potatoes at the deli counter. There is a sit down area that is conveniently equipped with microwaves, perfect for an employee break or for everyone else who wants a quick lunch. We warmed up the food and it was so tasty. Honestly the supermarket mac and cheese was creamy and rich, one of the best I've ever had! They even had a gelato counter so we shared a bowl. For an elevated grocery experience, Central Market delivers - you aren't just shopping for basic goods, you're finding all kinds of unique items and can enjoy a very good meal either on the spot or to take home. It feels nice to spend time in. Small standout item for me was the bottled water, the selection is very impressive. They have their own store brand of mineral water from Fiji.
