OK, I'll admit I'm a little embarassed to post this one, but after seeing my audiologist again…read moretoday, Andy Valla, at the Whisper Hearing Center I decided it's better to Yelp even if it is a little embarassing. I started losing my hearing in about 2000. I went to UCSF for testing / treatement, and ended up needing to get a hearing aid. My audiologist was SO awesome when he left UCSF to relocate to the Whisper Hearing Center in San Rafael a few years ago I decided to continue my audiology appointments with him there. The Center is equipped with all modern equipment, so testing hearing and fitting a hearing aid if needed is no problem, they have all the means to get it done right. I simply can't say enough good things about Dr. Andy Valla (he is a Dr. of Audiology, check out their website at www.whisperhearing.com). He is such a patient, honest, caring audiologist. Truth be told, I've had issues with my hearing since birth, so I've seen more than a few audiologists and Dr. Valla is the best. He works with you and listens to your frustrations (and believe me there are many with this condition) and keeps working with you until you are satisfied. Not many professionals in any business go the extra mile like he does. If you are experiencing any problems with dizziness, balance disorders, or hearing, I strongly encourage you to schedule an appt. to see Dr. Valla. I can guarantee you you'll be glad you did.

I came to Audiology of Marin as a referral from a friend. I found their office to be fast,…read moreefficient and professional. I came because I am starting to have a hard time hearing. I found their testing to very easy, after they sat me down and explained my results. Someone who is in sales myself I didn't feel pressured to buy hearing aides. Hearing aides are an investment and need to feel comfortable. I wanted to make sure it had all the features I needed to help me with my daily tasks. The prior reviews I feel don't seem to reflect my experience and I'm giving them 5 stars for their professionalism, kindness and how they handled the whole process.

You owe yourself a visit to Audiology Services of Marin. I have experienced hearing problems for…read morethe last number of years and have been examined, tested and diagnosed by several professional organizations. That, in itself, tells you everything. After being referred by my ENT I made an appointment with ASoM and expected the same "treatment" (both professionally and emotionally) by these folks. Boy, WAS I WRONG! My session lasted about 45 minutes and the instructions were clear, precise and professional. Not once, during my examination did I feel pitched, exposed or pressured into purchasing ANYTHING. The audiologist was incredibly well informed and well structured during my entire evaluation. She took the time to explain what each test was designed to diagnose as well as the results of each test. Within a week I received, by mail, a comprehensive evaluation of my visit. I scheduled a follow up appointment and was, once again, amazed! Yes, the "quality of life" can be improved in some people with the purchase of hearing devices and I left there with a total understanding of my hearing condition. They took into account my financial situation and NEVER pressured me into a purchase. Not ever a suggestion! They were even willing to lend me some "demo" units so that I could experience how my hearing loss could be altered in my day to day living. Throughout my entire experience with Audiology Services of Marin I felt that I was treated with respect, understanding and (most of all) compassion. I haven't spent a nickel out of my own pocket and continue to receive incredible audiology care and treatment. I believe that this organization treats hearing maladies above, and well beyond, the sale of devices. Not one email, snail mail or unwanted contact was ever received by my since my initial visit. Thank you for your continued professionalism and respect for your clients. I am sure that your business will continue thrive based on your attitude towards your profession. Like I said in my opening statement ... You owe yourself a visit to Audiology Services of Marin.

Hearing aids are very expensive and are most likely not covered through most insurance. I have Hearing loss and obviously need Hearing aids. I haven't been able to dish the money out for new ones, so I have a pair of Hearing aids that were given to me by my father. He's 83 yrs old, veteran. Had this pair of Hearing aids that were sitting around for a year and not being used, issued to my father from the V.A. I was told over the phone it was no problem to bring them in and help me get them fixed so I could use them for myself. Im sure I am not the only person that has ever inherited Hearing aids from their veteran family members.....so waited 2 weeks for a appointment, when I arrived it was typical, polite at the desk, first time paper work etc....then the so called professional specialist that loves to help people...really didn't want to help me at all. Instead wanted to lecture me about taxes?? Really??starting saying that I basically shouldn't have these Hearing aids and they are the V.A.s property? Then starts to tell me she pays taxes and the Hearing aids should have been returned by my father if he wasn't using them. Really and that was going to help your tax break??? A pair of Hearing aids?? First of all we all pay taxes and my father definitely paid a tax for his service one way or another. The real issue was that someone like myself, randomly pick this place based off good reviews so I could walk in and get the help needed regardless of the story behind the Hearing aids or how I have them. I had a pair fixed before for me somewhere else, those were VA issued as well, no problems. Then there was lots of excuses why she couldn't fix them and different prices all over the map..so I'm sure they will help you possibly..but don't forget your taxes !! What a joke!! Don't waste you time or money into this organization. I went to ADVANCED INSTRUMENTS hearing aid services in vallejo. They were extremely nice, helped me for very reasonable price, fixed my hearing aids regardless from how I received them and most importantly they didn't pull that TRUMP CARD!!.......so you decide

He didn't explain what the tests were, obviously they are to test the hearing but a little explanation goes a long way. One test specifically when he placed ear plugs and headphones he explained what the instructions were after his ears were covered. How does he think he will hear when his hearing is poor and he had the headphones which are basically canceling the noise. Explanations were poor and he seemed to get frustrated when my dad didn't understand right away. English is not my dad's primary language so I was there to help with translating but he preferred to attempt to speak Spanish when some of the words the doctor was trying to say were hard to understood in Spanish. As a medical professional having a translating service is highly required. It wasn't until half way through the appointment he asked if I can translate. Comments like "he has a big head" "I don't know if he can hear me" are not professional. I have always gone to other medical appointment and have never had to experience this with my dad. As a medical professional myself, he was rude and had zero patience. His tone changed once he started talking prices, but I do not recommend him. Explaining what the tests are beforehand and saying what he is doing should be the bare minimum. His explanations were not the most clear and he was obviously frustrated when my dad said the wrong thing or when he would hear more of the high pitched noises than he played on the computer. The test is deciphering what he hears, right? So why was the doctor visibly frustrated when my dad was pressing the button on what he was hearing. I'm more than happy to give my feedback to their patient experience if the office would like.

My hearing decreased a bit so i looked a buying a new set to take advantage of changes in technology. They suggested the phonak ultrasphere. These have much better controls and integration with the iphone but to get better results you really have to know how to use the app. They got on support with Phonak and walked through my use case and we tailored the app (from the phonak app and apple dash board) so that i could adjust for different use cases : TV, playing live music, restaurant, etc. The Phonak can reprogram some settings with a remote session. So in my house we logged into a support call and they adjusted some of the settings. They also phoned me a few times so that i could learn about some of the nuances - such as adjusting sound levels of background noises. The Phonak allows adjusting speaker and mic levels as well as mike source. It's no fun losing your hearing as you get older but really great having the support of professionals who know their way around new technology!

After I got my aids, I needed assistance but they never returned my phone calls, emails, or a request for help through the manufacturer's iPhone app. It was worth it to me to pay a "transfer of coverage" fee to Dr. Lao to have her take over maintenance of them. To make a long story very short, the original dispenser put the wrong length wires on my aids so that the front-facing microphones were buried behind my ears making them useless. Certainly explains a lot, eh? Dr. Lao replaced the wires for me and now the hearing aids are in the right place - peeking over the tops of my ears and letting the microphones do what they were designed to do -- pointing towards people I am talking to so that I can hear them. When I confronted him about that, after a team of ER doctors spent hours on me and I had a six day stay in ICU, he said I should have googled the medication. So I did. And I learned that he was to have been conducting quarterly blood tests. He never did a single blood test. That was the most dramatic and life-threatening of his errors or misses in my care, but there are others. Fortunately, I started relying heavily on specialists and they caught most of the things that Dr. Wolfe should have been doing, catching, and acting on. I would not trust him or any Practicioner at One Medical with my health. They seem too focused on attracting new members and securing insurance reimbursements, in my opinion, to have the bandwidth to adequately care for the needs of their existing patients.

First let me say - I am and "experienced" patient (17 major surgeries and many other tests and…read morebiopsies over the past 20 years), so I'm really tired and VERY skeptical of doctors and the medical profession in general. I recently switched from 15 years with Kaiser, back to Blue Cross, so I had to replace about 10 docs and thank goodness for Dr. Wolfe! I met him last week for the first time and I was SO impressed. He's very knowledgeable, he's not intimidated by my questions (or all the "stuff" going on with me), he's open minded, he was a pain doc for 6 years (so he gets THAT part of my treatment) and overall, he's a very likable guy - I can't recommend him more highly (keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not putting him on a "too soon" pedestal - but I don't think so). The ONLY downsides are the whole "Med One" $200 annual fee for "special" things that really, all docs are offering now-a-days, and the fact that Med One isn't on either of the 2 main electronic medical systems in my area (UCSF and Sutter), so I have to make sure they get all my labs and doc notes from EVERY other doc....which in my personal case, is a big PITA. That being said, I really feel like I have a good doc now who can be the leader of my team and really help coordinate all my issues - before, it was only me, bringing things to docs and trying to figure it out on my own, so YEA!!!!
