My 8-yr old son has already had his fair share of dental drama (including treatment in a hospital setting under general anesthesia), so when we learned that he might need orthodontics, we were less than thrilled. Additionally, he's a spunky kid, but expresses anxiety about having work done in his mouth, so bedside manner factors very large for me in rating a practitioner. Park Slope Orthodontics is located conveniently in Grand Army Plaza, steps from the 2/3 train, and is clean and bright, with aesthetically pleasing, minimalist decor. My son was fascinated by the record player in the waiting area, and now enjoys being able to play jazz records while we're waiting. Upon meeting Dr. Shahi, I was immediately put at ease. He spoke directly to my son, engaging him in conversation about his own treatment. I can't stand it when young people are put in situations where things are done to them without their consent, and I was impressed and relieved at Dr. Shahi's approach and ability to help his young patients feel a sense of participation and agency. My son's treatment is predicted to last around 10 months, which will include regular visits to the office. He has a palatal expander, and will eventually also need braces on his top front teeth. Each step of the way, we have been taken care of, had easy access to information, and have been treated with kindness and respect. This makes return visits enjoyable, as opposed to a hassle. Jennifer, who coordinates treatment and assists Dr. Shahi is a gem. Her manner with children is relaxed and caring. Additionally, she makes billing and all of the paperwork and insurance red tape as straightforward as possible. Just had my first time at Park Slope Orthodontics, and it won't be my last. Had a permanent retainer break, and trying to find someone in the midst of COVID to help quickly was a nightmare. Luckily, they were able to get me in quickly, and then were great about explaining all my options and getting me back into the world quickly. I did about 2 years of research before going back into braces, because I had a specific type of treatment in mind. I found out Park was one of the only places in Brooklyn that provided the type of orthodontia I wanted and chose them after seeing great reviews. Having said that, Dr. Peter was informative, experienced and knowledgeable about the challenges I would face, (which I certainly did) but worked with my vision. Dr. Peter is very focused on accuracy, and even took my molds twice to ensure I got a precise fit. Details like this matter when you're paying money for a service. This was the best investment I've made! My experience was amazing because of the kindness and patience Dr. Peter, Indira and Jennifer provided. I highly recommend this office, because they are professional, communicative and thorough. The entire staff at Park works as a well-oiled machine. I learned so much about teeth during the year I wore braces and I constantly get compliments on my smile. (Thanks guys!) I paid $6000 and had the aligners for 2 years. My teeth still weren't straight. He assured me that price included the Invisalign retainers which it didn't. One tooth he said he couldn't rotate and towards the end of my treatment he said he was mistaken and it could've been rotated. He made me retainers in his office and they kept breaking. I ended up going somewhere else and starting a new treatment for another $3600. read more

Came here to get a new retainer to replace the one I've had since I was 16. Practice is clean and welcoming, and staff are friendly and helpful. The orthodontist was very patient with me, explaining my options and not rushing me to make decisions. I was terrified of the oral impression - it's the stuff off nightmares for me - but the doc did everything to make it as non-traumatizing as possible. He had the assistant make the putty very firm so none of it leaked in back of my throat, and I only needed to keep it in for 60 seconds. When I started to panic as soon as the mold was put in my mouth, the doctor was very calming and helped me relax while not getting alarmed at my semi-panic attack. I cannot say enough nice things about this orthodontist. Peter is very accommodating and genteel. Everyone is so friendly and Peter is truly a talented doctor. Getting my molds done took no time at all and the technician was so friendly. When my plate came, it fit perfectly. I love that you can hardly even tell that I'm wearing anything in my mouth. I felt really nervous getting braces again as an adult but the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and Dr. PJ walked me through the whole process that was to come. Over the course of my 8 months I never had any problems, always enjoyed going to visits and was so incredibly happy and impressed with the progress of my teeth. We are always greeted by by a friendly assistant who makes you feel welcomed. The office itself is stylish and inviting with a comfortable waiting area where you can listen to jazz playing on the turntable while deciding what to read from a variety of books and magazines. My daughter is a big fan of the book collection they've assembled and made a recommendation that was immediately added to the Amazon cart. If there was any anxiety about seeing an orthodontist, it fades away as soon as he starts talking.
