With nice temperatures drawing everyone out for walks and the city gearing up for summer, I decided it was the perfect time to check out the MLK Street Food carts on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. It did not disappoint. The whole area feels fresh and revitalized new stores, clean updates, and a welcoming energy that makes you want to linger. I especially loved the playful touch of the little space shuttle inside; it's such a fun, quirky detail that adds character to the pod. I can only imagine how vibrant this spot gets at night with lights and crowds it's going to be the place to be as the warmer months roll in and these carts start packing out. Portland is famous for its food cart culture (did you know we have more food carts per capita than any other U.S. city?), and this pod delivers with a great mix of options from sushi to cheesesteaks and beyond. Parking is not the easiest since it's street parking and there are other restaurants and businesses on both sides of the street. But if you have to park a few blocks away, it's with it. This place is fairly priced mexican food that specializes in Birria which is a slow cooked beef filling here. They also offer asada (steak), pollo (chicken), and pastor (pork) as fillings as well. They run really good weekly daily specials with $2 tacos on Tuesday and a loaded burrito on Friday for $8. These specials are hard to beat. Besides the specials they have a huge menu and it's all pretty good. Portion sizes are fair especially for the tacos. Drinks are deccent as well.
