They were okay. Not thrilled with this location. I knew Portland was famous for food carts. We were in the area, so I drove to Cartopia. They are not in the nicest neighborhood. Lots of homelesspeople around which made my wife feel uncomfortable. We arrived a little after 8 PM with half of the carts closed. I think this would be a great place to visit if there were less homeless and more carts open. read more

I'm the weirdo that is tatted and pierced like the rest of us! First cart we noticed was beer and BBQ... smelled amazing. We saw a little bit of everything. Fries, pizza, Pad Thai, Gyro, and tacos. It has a decent variety if you're taking a couple friends. We unfortunately came on an extra cool and rainy day. It's nice if you're snuggled up to a fire pit but the other tables not near fire are pretty chilly and you're probably going to get rained on. NOTE: There are NO BATHROOMS here. They have the Honey Buckets in the back corner which felt kinda gross with two food carts right next door. How exactly do they empty the Honey Buckets that close to food? Hmmm. Great food. Warm, cozy seating. Lowkey and plenty of space. This place is amazing for rainy or cold days to get food. There are a few fireplaces around for people to sit around. Not many people come here, so its great to chill if you don't want to be crowded. Food is great here. I got a quarter chicken with crisp potatoes and some sauce (garlic jalopeno I think?). Good smokey flavors, but extremely salty for my tastes. The sauce was superb though! I probably could just eat fries and the sauce alone and be satisfied. Cartopia is a bastion of sanity in the madness of the COVID-19 world. Due to the fact that outdoor dining is the norm here, it has survived the shutdown of the restaurant industry relatively unscathed. I haven't been here enough to have sampled all of the carts, but the standout thus far has been Tahrir Square and their absolutely *phenomenal* falafel wrap. 10/10, but request some added feta cheese, and it reaches levels that even Spinal Tap can't touch with a dial that only goes to 11! Finding a heated seat can be a bit of a challenge, especially since food carts are pretty much the only truly viable dining option in the city these days. If you're patient and observant enough, though, you can snag one pretty easily, since few groups linger long enough to be considered loitering. My only caveat about Cartopia is that they have to compete for my attention with the pod containing Montage Ala Cart just a block away, leading inevitably into a taste bud tug-o-war, as I try to decide whether I am OK with missing out on an opportunity for some Spold Mac with andouille sausage. I foresee this gastrointestinal grudge match breaking out the next time I am here as well. Oh, the agony of choice! read more

We family of six, visited while in town as the reviews were great and no one could make their mind on what to eat. My mother got the gyro in which tasted pretty good and close to European flavor. Friend tried BBQ Pulled pork over the fries, the pork and fries tasted good however the bbq wasn't as great and kinda ruin the taste of thing for us. I got half chicken meal and the AJI sauce was good mix with the chicken and chopped up potato fries. The chicken was great by itself smoked flavor but the sauce gave it a great taste and mixed good with a deep every other bite. My wife and daughter got the Thai cart in which the pad Thai was good but seemed a little dry for my taste but the fried rice was absolutely the best thing we had there period and highly recommend and in which if we ever come back to the area I will get a bowl for myself. The dessert was even looking good as I did not partake but was informed it tasted good. Service wait time can depend on which cart you go to but over all the options in food, beer, and dessert options are perfect either for a short visit or with a large group to fix everyone needs. The remodel a few years ago has elevated the experience. Carts are neatly arranged around the parameter with a huge heated tent covering family style picnic tables packed together like a German beer garden. People are friendly so it's no problem sharing tables. There is a fire pit and the heat lamps keep some of the chill away during colder months. Party lights above add to the ambiance. The variety of food is good, not great. The food itself is good, not great. But this place is always packed even though parking is near impossible to find! The atmosphere definitely contributes to the popularity. And the fact that it stays open a few hours past when other carts have shut their windows. Standouts are Chicken & Guns, Perierra Creperie (crepes take time to prepare so be patient), Pyro Pizza for fresh thin crust style pizza, and Potatoe Champion which always has a long linear customers seeking all things potatoes covered in various gravies. Loved the ambience here! It has this cool vibe and the good thing is there is a huge seating area surrounded by the carts. I have tried the falafel from the Mediterranean food cart. It was crispy and good. I have tried the garlic bread from the pizza food truck. I was a little disappointed with that. Finely cut garlic was put on the top of bread spread with butter. We heard so much about this place and we decided to try this out on a Friday evening! Ofcos the place was completely crowded. But people also keep moving quickly! So you will just have to watch for a spot and take it. If you are going in a group, It might take some time to find a spot where you can sit together. Saved some time for us. The gyro's were tried here chicken and the lamb was really not the best I heard from my friends ! I got the palak panner fries! It was good! Not spicy! The fries were super fresh and crispy! It was quite a long wait for the fries thou ! He makes them fresh for you! So it worth it! The friend looked the fried chicken ! He just enjoyed it too much!
