This chick is fun, smart, a savvy interpreter between what I think I want and what I'll bounce away feeling a little bit more joyful about instead. And while the trend is picking up now, I've been coloring my hair with a spectrum of colors for ages and life morphs. Colors on youth and colors on us older gals play off differently. I walked out of here with 5 extra inches of my hair cut off. I went in for my appointment told her exactly where I wanted it cut (my hair was down to my ribs and I wanted a few inches off) and ended up with a bob and "angles". Went to this salon this past Spring. I explained that I wanted an updo with curls. I ended up with a mess of lose and uneven waves and a bobby pin to hold my hair in place. I had to go to another salon to have my hair fixed at my expense. Park West has some great stylist and some inexperienced stylist. If you want a Haircut, this is NOT the place to go. The Hair cut and the Stylist are just so-so but they charge an exorbitant price. You will NOT know the price of the service until the service is done. They even have the guts to say the pricing is arbitrary. It depends on the stylist and the stylist will decide what the hair cut is worth after the cut!! Give me a break! If you want to be that arbitrary, then I would say the customer should decide what the service is worth after the service. The receptionist quoted the price as $25. After the cut the stylist decided the amount of hair cut equaled $35. Plus tips!! Just shampoo - no conditioner involved. Supercuts charges $16 for the hair-cut. Plus another $4 for shampoo and conditioner. Price is fixed and you know ahead of time. read more

I've been going to Park West Salon in Arlington, MA for over 10 years...and have had not only consistently excellent cuts and color, everyone in the salon is so pleasant and friendly - and very talented. The team there constantly attends hair shows and special classes to stay updated on latest styles/trends, techniques, products and technologies. I spent 15 modeling in NYC, Boston, Miami and LA, and went to many of the "swanky" salons in each, and not one achieved the amazing blond color I get at Park West. I dealt with issues of brassy/redness and hair that was too bleached out and dry. Park West gives me a perfect, natural looking blond and it's not overbleached! Anna did my hair for my wedding and did a wonderful job! She was really nice and kept checking in to make sure that I liked her approach. I didn't do any trial so she was good about checking the direction frequently the day of my wedding, especially because I had a rough vision and a golden hair vine but didn't have the specifics laid out. Lauren Gore has been my stylist/colorist for over 10 years and as long as she is still doing it, I will never go to anyone else for color especially! I first became her client at another salon in Belmont, MA. Her skills do not end as a phenomenal colorist and stylist. Over the course of the last 11 or 12 years, she has politely advised me on what color works best with my skin tone, in addition to the appropriate cut that compliments my face the best and is sustainable with the level of coarseness of my naturally curly hair. Lauren has impressed me so much with her skill, and up to date product and hair treatment knowledge that even though I moved out of the Belmont- Arlington vicinity over 7 years ago, I travel from S. Plymouth, MA every 8 weeks to see her at Park West for a high-light and cut. The way my hair looks after she has worked her magic on it is well the trip! I went to Park West because I'm visiting from out of town and it was the highest Yelp rating close to where I'm staying. I really appreciated that they fit me in about an hour after I called, and the haircut I got was exactly what I wanted. I'm growing out my hair and was so nervous my stylist was going to chop off a bunch and set me back, but she did a great job just cleaning me up, and making it look like a haircut instead of like someone growing out their hair. She was also super friendly. After my haircut, I asked if they had any eyebrow wax appointments, and they got me in right away! The woman who did my eyebrows did an awesome job with a wax/threading combo, and didn't overwax me like so many places do. I'm new to arlington, and This salon was walking distance from my house, I wanted to see if they had any availability for a blow dry, when I walked in the girl at the front desk was busy checking out a client so I decided to sit down and wait for her to become available. When she was done checking out the women, she seemed to of gotten distracted by something else, and DIDN'T once ask if I was all set or if I had an appointment. After about 6 minutes of waiting the girl gets up walks to the back, comes back then sits back down at the desk, she still didn't seem to have notice me. To be honest with you I couldn't tell if she was a stylist or if she was just someone's friend that actually worked there. On top of all this her outfit was HORRIFIC! I wouldn't want a stylist going near me dressed like that, nor should a manager EVER approve of what she had on. it was NOT business appropriate at all. She basically had ZERO real clothes on. I've been seeing Jean for years now, and while she's a very nice lady, I never come out with what I wanted. My haircuts always seemed like an imitation of what I wanted rather than what I actually wanted. I understand that cutting hair based off a photo is hard, but I wasn't really looking for complicated stuff. But my most recent experience has finally decided for me that I won't be going back. I made the appointment for a color, and explained on the phone that I wanted to get my hair to a light lilac color (nothing particularly too difficult considering I'm in the medium-brown range), and she seemed to completely understand and that gave me a lot of confidence. She even had me go in the next day to look at colors and decide which one I wanted. Awesome, great. I get there for the appt. and both her and an intern of sorts are trying to convince me out of it, telling me it'll be very expensive and take forever. I had done my research and I knew this and that's what I wanted. I continuously told them I understood, but the light lilac is what I wanted. They made me feel as if they just didn't want to do it/had better things to do. Jean starts doing my hair and while I don't have a lot of coloring experience (other than box dye that is) it feels a bit weird? She's lightening random strips of hair? Rather than what I was expecting would be a whole head bleach. But I say to myself 'she's the professional here', so whatever. She finishes 'lightening' and moves onto the actual dye itself. This is where it got worrying. The in-house Paul Mitchell colorist is practically babysitting her and telling her how to do EVERYTHING. Then, half way through, she has to leave and help another customer and leaves me with the interns (who by the looks of their beautifully colored hair that they did themselves may actually know more than she does). But that really pissed me off because from my research, color jobs like these could take 4+ hours and she as a professional should've known that yet she scheduled other appointments? In the end I came out with bright deepish purple hair that while looked okay was not what I wanted and faded in two weeks (something that's happened before to me, and she was informed about but insisted lightening my hair would keep the color in) read more

This is a wonderful salon. I just moved back to the suburbs and went to many different salons whole living in the city. Park West is better than all of them! The staff is warm, friendly and skilled at what they do. I see Anna and she recently transformed me from a reddish brown to a bright blonde. I had been a redhead for four years so my hair had a ton of color build up in it. I'm now q blonde, and my hair doesn't feel damaged because she made sure to maintain the integrity of it. This was a complicated job, and she pulled it off - she's super talented and I recommended her. I've seen other stylists and had good experiences with them as well...everyone at Park West knows what they are doing. I love that they are so laid back and kind...they don't make you feel like you should be dressed up to get your hair done, and they don't push products.
