This is a cute and clean boutique nail salon with only a few chairs. While I really want to rate this salon higher, the quality is just not there. I went in for a gel mani and regular pedi. The attention to detail for manicure is minimal, very little cuticle work and nail shaping, color not applied on the entire nail, and my gel started to lift and pill off in less than a week. My pedi was completely ruined after putting on shoes 3hrs after my appointment as there is no drying device; the owner did offer to fix it a day later but that was my wedding day which I had told her the day before, so clearly wouldn't have been possible. Having both mani/pedi done in 1hr is great, but that shouldn't come at the expense of quality. read more

I hopped on the Eversave bandwagon and bought their offer for a $22 mani/pedi here, since $22 is reasonable for just the pedicure, so I looked at it as if I was getting a free manicure (plus paraffin) for nothing. Works for me! I called to schedule an appointment, highly doubting there'd be any Saturday availability. I left a VM on Monday evening around 6, and my call was returned at a reasonable time on Tuesday morning. I was able to get in this afternoon, which was much appreciated. Like everyone else is saying, Shannon's a super sweetheart--- and not in that fake, "oh I work with people so I have to pretend I like them" way. She's a talker, and a very smart woman. I know this because I mentioned quickly in passing on the phone that I had to take my dog out, and she asked me about him 40 minutes into my appointment. That, and she left a corporate job to open up her own nail salon. Sure, it's inside the Planet Fitness, which is the nicest outpost of the bargain gym chain around. Everything is new, clean, and well laid out, and since I'd been to the gym before, I wasn't weirded out getting my nails done there. Polished carries a modest but thorough selection of Opi, Essie, and one other brand of polish-- the line I used is formaldehyde-free. All of the tools are clean, and anything that could be disposable(i.e. those purple scrubbies for your feet), is tossed after each use. Also, this woman worked wonders on the foot scrub bit-- she didn't tickle me at all and did a great job on my 'problem area' big toe calluses. She did a thorough, solid job on my nails, and the whole appointment was nearly 90 minutes. I also gained a little intel on how the Eversave worked out for her, which was of interest to me since I work in the group-buying space as well. I left feeling like I'd exerted myself talking by the time we were done (I'm not super social), but I can't hold that against Shannon. I enjoyed the whole experience. She's a great lady, and I absolutely will visit her business for future pedicures...plus it'll force me to get my ass in gear and hit Planet Fitness after. read more

Bought a Gilt City voucher, was going to go in with my mom. She didn't feel well the next day, I called to let them know 1 hour prior to apptmt time. (last min, yes) The lady at the front desk was REALLY rude and unaccomodating, showing no sign of sympathy that she wasn't feeling well, just condescendingly said it's not good for their business and that her portion would be forfeited. It's one thing to state the rules, but a whole other thing to be so uncaring and unprofessional, only looking out for the interest of the business. I wouldn't have been so offended or angry if she was a tad nicer and concerned about their customers' wellbeing. Therefore, we will NOT be coming to this salon afterall. I bought a groupon and saw that the reviews for this place were great. Well, the reviews were right! I have had a shellac manicure by both Cathy and Shannon and they were both fantastic! I loved the color options and the quality was fantastic! I've seen other shellac manicures that last only a week before peeling off and mine lasted almost 3 weeks! Ok, granted with the re growth I should have gone after 2, but my nails still looked great. They are super accommodating in terms of scheduling an appointment and do a fast, yet great, job. The place is very clean, and both of them are very polite and pleasant to talk to. I actually really enjoy being able to talk to the person doing my nails, not worrying about whether they are talking about me to their neighbor etc. I highly recommend this place for a top notch manicure. After seeing all of the reviews about Shannon, I decided to call to make an appointment for a mani-pedi for today. I called and asked if Shannon was available the lady kindly said she was booked until Tuesday and I said, "I need something today but thank you." Getting ready to hang up, she asked if I could be put on hold, I said "Yes".. 2 minutes later, Shannon comes on the phone. I tell her I found her off of yelp but I can only come in today and asked if there was any way to fit me. She asked if I could do a 2:30 appointment, I said of course and that was that. So sweet that she moved appointments around to fit me in! That's excellent customer service! On the way there: I pull up the address, GPS takes me to the back... I'm like "Where the hell is it?" I called Shannon telling her I'd be late because I couldn't find the salon. She asked where I was and directed me from there, so awesome! FOR ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE FINDING IT - Park outside of the building next to Lowes Theater (the one that closed). It's a grey building. Go inside and on the second floor, there's a gym. The boutique is inside the gym to the left. First impression: It's just a room with 2 manicure stations and 2 pedicure stations, no massage chairs. It's not a normal salon but she's going to expand! On to the experience: I got in and she introduces herself and asks me to pick my colors. Her business partner says I should do shellac and says they have a groupon going on and says she can apply it to my order. I got a shellac manicure and a basic pedicure for $55, $10 less than normal. I'll take it! The pedicure was very relaxing and MY FEET HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS SOFT!!!!! She suggested a hot pink shellac for my manicure - It came out awesome! (I uploaded a picture so you could see how amazing her work is!) Shannon - She's so bubbly and I love her personality. She tells you how it is without being rude! She pays a lot of attention to detail, which is part of the reason I like her. The other part, she actually gets to know her clients! You can tell she loves this career and that what make her salon the best I've ever been to...You walk out happy and pleased. This is a more intimate salon. I know what you're thinking but let me explain. In an ordinary nail salon, they do your manicure/pedicure, collect your money and often do a sloppy job. Sometimes when I buy a groupon for half off, I feel like the service is also half the quality; this is not at all the case with Shannon. She returns phone calls quickly each and every time, always manages to see me in a timely AND flexible manner, and does a beautiful shellac French manicure (see pic I uploaded). I am generally picky, and therefore I don't always like getting 'professional' manicures because they are often sloppier than what I am able to do for myself. However, Shannon does a quality job in a expedient amount of time. The location is actually pretty convenient (right off 93) despite its being hard to find. And there is always plenty of free parking. On top of it all, I always thoroughly enjoy the conversation. This is a place I will be returning to after I have used up all of my groupon. The experience in her shop is so comfortable for that reason and because she is CLEAN! I was looking for a local shellac salon that I could afford, and I found this salon right in my gym! I had the "gellish" manicure done a few weeks ago, and it looked good, but I needed to get that taken off. I did not realize that gellish was the low-rent version of shellac. Ladies, do not ever get a gellish manicure. It may look good, but is a BITCH to take off. Shannon sat there and slowly scraped that blue nightmare off my nails for what seemed like days. Anyone could have just completely wrecked my nails, but she was SO PATIENT. She did a GREAT job, and is one of the few salons in Somerville that offers shellac. I cannot recommend it enough. Also, Shannon is awesome. She is excellent to talk to and will ask you all about your life. She also does manicures and pedicures, but the shellac is such a great nail polish that you definitely want to get it. I also saw her take the shellac off my friend's nails and it peeled right off with nail polish remover! No scraping needed! read more

Shannon and Kathy are awesome!! I had trouble finding the place but called and they led me to the salon with perfect directions (it's in the lobby of the assembly sports club.) I was even running late and they still were able to get us in and we did not feel rushed at all. They were able to accommodate my friend and I for a gel mani/ regular pedi the day of with no problem. From what I've heard the owner is very nice and they do a decent job, but I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you first hand because I have literally been trying for 3 months to get an appointment. I have either been put on hold for over 10 minutes, deceivingly told I would be given a call back without ever hearing back from them again, or left a message without receiving a return call. It seems like their business has grown a lot which is great for them, but unfortunately it appears they have taken on way more than they can handle. And in my opinion, offering groupon deals when it's difficult to get customers in is bad business. read more

I wish I could give Polished more than three stars, especially because Shannon was just as friendly and outgoing as the other reviewers have noted. And also because I got a great deal with the Eversave coupon that other reviewers have mentioned. But, there were a few things that did not make for an amazing mani/pedi experience: 1) Shannon wasn't as meticulous about shaping and polishing my nails as I would've hoped. I'll admit that I might have a bit of OCD, but she only did one coat on one of my fingers, but all the rest of my fingers got two coats. Also, I don't know if she didn't smooth out my nails enough before applying the polish, but it started chipping and peeling within a day. 2) The other nail tech, whose name I never got, was quite young and not super-professional. She talked back to Shannon a few times, and she complained about the previous client. It made me wonder what she'd say about me after I left. 3) Another person came in to get her nails done; I assumed it was another customer but it turned out she was their friend, from the hair salon across the hallway. I understand that staff in salons have friends and give them free services, but it weirds me out a bit when that happens while I'm getting my nails done. Overall, it's a clean place with a good vibe and I might go back, but it probably won't be any time soon. read more

I came here last night for a pedi/mani via an Eversave coupon that I purchased. First off, Shannon is a doll!!! Not only is she great to talk to (in a non creepy "make small talk because I am scrubbing your feet and staring at you" way) but she did an excellent job! Her salon is located in Planet Fitness by the front desk and it is small, but I actually prefer it that way. You get more one on one attention, and you aren't worried about a million people all up in your face while you are trying to relax. Oh an another bonus is she is extremely clean, which impressed me and all my OCDness! I plan on comming back here as soon as I need a new mani so I can try the shellac manicure. It is extremely affordable here and the colors looked really pretty - I hear it trumps OPI's Axium system.....I'm all over it!!!! read more

I bought the Groupon for one shellac treatment because I was dying to try it and had heard rave reviews from friends about the shellac lasting forever. I lucked out when I called this morning that someone had canceled today and she was able to squeeze me in, otherwise she seems like she's booked solid. The salon is located kinda outta the way for me (accessible by the Orange line and a short walk) but it was such a good deal I couldnt pass it up. It's definitely a little hard to find, it's located inside the Lincoln Tech/Planet Fitness building. It's a cute little shop to the left on the second floor. Shannon, the owner is awesome. Super cute, super personable and knows whats she's doing. She managed to talk and stay engaged in our convo while doing an amazing job on my nails, flawless in about a half hour. It's definitely not a slow and relaxing manicure but that's not what you're there for. You're there to get an amazing manicure that will last long not a spa treatment. Shannon was very professional and clean and also helped me pick a great color for my nails that I love. Definitely recommend taking the trip out to Somerville. It's about 30 min ride (kinda far for nails) for me but I may have to make the trip out there again. read more

When I first walked into this little nail salon and was greeted by the bubbly Shannon, I thought, 'Crap, do I know her from somewhere?' because when you meet her it feels like you just met up with your long lost girlfriend for lunch. Shannon works ridiculous hours without breaks to accommodate others pampering needs, and I think she does it without the help of anyone else. Honestly, she told me last time I was there that she wouldn't even stop for a lunch, so maybe you should bring her a snack (she likes the crunchy veggie chips/sticks). Often she opens early and stays super late, just to fit in people whining about their need for a 'Pedi', 'Mani', or 'Shellac', NOW!! Factor in that she often does this at an extreme discount when people use a Groupon and I think she's a fantastic business owner. But to be serious, I've been here for three Shellac manicures, two were french and one with this beautiful layered color that I loved. I did have an issue with a peeling pinky right after the second french Shellac, but I called and she was so amazing in fitting me in to fix it before the wedding I was in. Her place is clean, clean, clean. She throws out anything she can't sanitize. Next time, I'm going to get a pedi, since she uses the footsie baths with disposable liners, so there's no worry that you may contract foot-herp. Overall, this is great place, and Shannon is a great owner, but the picture of the handsome little boy on her table that she's working so hard at this business for, doesn't hurt in winning some points with me. I mean, she quit her job at a fancy-pants corporate job, to own a business that she slaves over, and if that's not admirable, I'm not sure what is. read more

I went in for a shellac today with the owner, Shannon, and had a great experience. It is a little hard to find, tucked away within the planet fitness, but well worth the visit. I have finally found a nail boutique that works for me. I had my first Shellac Manicure today and I am IN LOVE. Shannon did a fantastic job and I have never had a manicure that looked so good. I went here because I bought a Groupon it was for a mani pedi with Gabby. she was very nice and friendly but I'm not happy with the way my manicure turned out. The pedicure was okay the place that I usually go to gives a five minutes foot massage but I didn't get that at Polished. That was the only pedicure downside. As for a manicure everything went well until I saw how my nails turned out. The color that I chose desperately need a third coat because it was flaky. I guess because she was in a rush she didn't noticed it a date later my polish started to chip and peel off. Overall I got what I paid for; for a $25 Groupon I got a mediocre mani pedi. You can really tell she cares about her work and making people happy. I absolutely LOVE Polished Nail Boutique in Somerville.... I refuse to go anywhere else. I dont even know where to start in this review... Customer Service - Shannon is the hardest working person I know, and in my many visits there, I have often seen her skip her own lunch to accommodate someone in need of some polishing! talk about customer service... I have only had to wait once, for less than 5 minutes - but like another yelper stated, there are big squishy leather couches in the waiting area with a tv - so it wasn't that bad at all! Atmosphere - I can only reiterate what everyone else is saying... about how clean and comfortable her salon is.... It is a great place to be in - yes it is in planet fitness, but it doesn't feel like you are surrounded by people who like to "lift things up and put them down". Her salon is very 'Nail boutique meets z gallerie'... the fancy color of the walls, the swanky decor and clean and organized displays makes you want to hang out for the entire day. I love that there are no generic photos on the wall advertising a manicure.. but rather a photo on the wall of of an actual pedicure that she did - love, love love it. Quality of product - Before I knew about Shannon, I had gotten manicures that when i walked out i thought to myself "I could have done a better job if i did it myself blindfolded"... I cannot even express how pleased i am with the quality of the manicures i get - today specifically, I got a shellac manicure... it is so unbelievable perfect - no missing spots, no smudges, not a single imperfection - i feel silly raving about my fingernails, but i mean come on - i look like a hand model thanks to Shannon and Grace! This was the longest lasting shellac manicure I have ever had. It has lasted two full weeks without the edges starting to peel. Shannon is meticulous about painting and will offer suggestions if there is a color that will look better with your skin. I have been really pleased both times I went. I missed my first appointment and Shannon squeezed me in during her break the next day. She will also allow people to use their groupons after they expire.
