The COVID-19 situation has proven to be a challenging time for everyone, but especially for small businesses. I was introduced to Park's Dress Design and Alterations by a relative of mine, who has had some garments (blouses, dresses, pant suits, etc.) altered over the years. Mrs. Park (she also goes by Sunny) hemmed up a few of my dress slacks and corrected the sleeve lengths on one of my suits and I was pleased with the work. While the prices might be on the higher side as opposed to having these type of alterations done at a dry cleaner, Mrs. Park has had her tailoring business open in Fairfax County for over 25 years, so she must be doing something right. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has encountered challenges purchasing masks/face coverings during this COVID-19 pandemic. What makes things worse is all the conflicting information the public has been receiving on this topic. In late-February and early-March we were told face coverings "aren't effective" and "do more harm than good" so don't wear one. I was always a bit skeptical of this guidance since during my travels to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, etc, face masks are very common. So once the "official" guidance was for folks to wear some sort of face covering, all of the masks at drug stores and on-line were sold out or available at exorbitant prices. On a whim, I called Mrs. Park to see if she had started to make any cloth masks, and luckily she had. Her business has experience a dramatic decline due to everyone staying home, but like many businesses, she's had to pivot to adjust to a changing market place. Kudos to her for being resourceful. She has a two main styles of masks to choose from in a variety of colors and patterns. What I like about these masks is there is a small metal piece that contours around the nose and two side slits for additional filtration. I find two small square pieces of trimmed paper towels work pretty well. These are also machine washable and I was told cold water works best. When i picked up my four masks for myself and family, there was a lady who was picking up seven for herself (one for each day). The masks are $15 each and while there are lots of patterns you can download off the Internet and plenty of "how to" tutorials on Youtube, it's worth it for me to just have a professional do it for me. Hours have been reduced during the pandemic, so I recommend calling first to see if she's open and if there are any masks to available for purchase. read more

THE WORST PLACE!! I brought my wedding suit here because of all the positive reviews but this lady didn't do ANY changes. I paid 174$ for alterations to my tux and yet when I received it didn't change at all. When I told her that the changes were not adequate she started measuring again and was going to charge me additional for the changes (like 160$ more). I ended up going to and K and G and paid 150$. The tailor at the store told me that the work done was awful. I suggest you STAY AWAY from this place. I just got my suit today and it's night and day. Not sure why the negative reviews, as I've had consistently excellent experience here. Reasonable prices, reasonable time frame, excellent attention to detail, some creative fixes, and she even brought back to life a bedspread that my puppy had chewed on. I've had clothing altered to fit my shape, as I've gotten older and my body has changed. On the one or two occasions I brought something back to be refitted because something I asked for just didn't work, she was happy to make the change. Happy to have her in business, and during a pandemic have always felt safe as we are required to wear masks in the shop. read more

Just a heads-up to men in the McLean, VA area looking for a tailor - this place is excellent and affordable. I don't know her name, but the woman who is always here does a great job, has reasonable prices, and gets items back quickly. So, don't be deceived by the "Dress Design" in the business name! She does alterations to men's items too! I have taken several pairs of suit pants to get them hemmed or shortened, a jacket's sleeves lengthened, and a few other items. I have taken a lot of clothes to her both for alterations and also redesigning. Her suggestions are always perfect and the result impeccable. I'd like to give Park's zero stars! Had alterations done on a long, formal dress and the seamstress ruined the chiffon overlay on the skirt in the back with a small hole/run and some black smudge/burn marks (the dress is light pink so the marks are very obvious). There is no way to fix it (and the seamstress didn't suggest anyway to fix it). We could shortening the dress, but we need it long now to match other dresses being worn in a wedding party in a week! I'm guessing the seamstress may have done that damage when she steamed it as we waited when picking it up. The dress was wrinkled a lot more after the alterations than when we brought it into her shop (another complaint I have). She kept insisting that the damage was there before she altered it and not her fault. That's not true. She and I had been looking at that part of the dress when we were figuring out the alterations two weeks ago and I think both of us would have noticed it then (when I could have exchanged it before any alterations were done). I paid the full alterations fee (which also seemed expensive) because I didn't want her to have any claim against me. I will never have alterations done at Park's again! read more
