I was a bit hesitant given the reviews on Yelp but when I went to the Burberry store, they informed me that they send all their items to Sun Tailoring and that they trust this business to handle high-end designer alterations. It's pricier given the fact that they're situated in Tyson's but also because of the various products and designer items they tailor. My Burberry coat my dropped off and fits me perfectly. Alternations to adjust to my height, shoulder and sleeve lengths totaled to $160 (fair in my opinion). read more

Bad attitude, unprofessional, and low quality of work. Brought two pairs of MaxMara linen pants for hemming. Thread came out with both pairs. I took them back, and they remade it. However, thread came out again within a week!! I took it back and showed them. The guy was furious yelling that they had been there for decades and blaming me that I torn it so thread came out. I was so shocked! Then he angrily grab the pants and threw them to his coworkers on the sewing station. He turned back and loudly yelled to me, This is the last time. OMG! I've never seen customer services of this low quality. While waiting, I looked at Google. No wonder they are less than 4 stars. They deserve bad rating, apparently. read more

A TOTAL RIP-OFF; Ruined. my $3,000 Valentino Suit! I have a beautiful Valentino double-breasted suit. I hadn't worn this suit more than a few times, and as such it had remained in virtually pristine, new condition. But due to weight loss and also age-related height reduction , I needed the suit to be altered so I could wear it again, so I took it to Tysons Tailors since I had read the good reviews about them. Again, this double-breasted suit was in such a perfect condition that even the store owner himself asked me several times if it was not a brand new suit!. I was told that I could pick it up in about two weeks and I was charged a whopping $650 for the work. Two weeks later when I went to pick up the suit, I noticed two odd things: number one, the lapels of my suit seemed to have been ironed directly onto the fabric, which has left a bit of sheen on the lapels, period but moreover, the pants were completely not acceptable! Granted they were shortened in length, but they were sagging in the crotch and the front areas. I brought it to his attention. He claimed that my pants have pleated fronts and he cannot do any better! I asked him why didn't he tell me that in the beginning when I first brought the suit to him so I could take it to someone else and showed him the crotch was too long so he said he will repair it but if I want it done right I have to pay another $200 which I refused. Late week when I went to pick up my pants I saw that they were completely ruined but he kept insisting that they are perfect. I have attached photos of the pants for everyone to see, what's "perfect" in this man's eyes, To make a long story short, the beautiful suit is completely ruined. I would have the option of taking him to court but I really don't think it's worth my time but one thing is for sure that I wont trust any alterations to this. If I could leave 0 stars I would..so greatly disappointed...I took two dresses in to be altered, I paid $90 to have them taken up on the sides. Because I have been here previously with no issues, I did not try them on before leaving. Packed one for a trip to NYC...put it on at the hotel, it's never been altered...got home and tried on the other and it too, has never been altered. They took my money and did not alter the dresses! Unfortunately, the new owner is extremely unprofessional, immensely disrespectful, very condescending in particular towards women. I recently took in 2 suits and two pair of pants and we thought one item wasn't returned- turned out the item was there but the family member didn't see it! The tailor looked on his end and called again to follow up which is when we realized the error was ours. He not only did great work but spent time looking for something that wasn't their error! Sun Tailoring is the go-to tailor for my wife and I. Considering they're located in Tyson's II, their prices are reasonable and they're always consistent. What I love most about Sun Tailoring is the priceless one-liners that come out of the mouth of the gentleman who owns the place. Although he doesn't say much, the few things he does say are priceless! I got a real laugh out of him asking my wife and I "Who's the boss?" and on another occasion handing me the bag of my wife's altered clothes and saying "Your job!" A great business that provides top quality work. I doubt any other DC-area tailor could meet the standards set by Sun Tailoring when it comes to alterations for suits, and especially jeans. read more

Very poor customer service especially to African Americans. Will lie to you without blinking an eye!!!!...very pricy and very poor work. Paid $300 for tailoring received garment back wrinkled no ironing. when asked why the garment was wrinkled , Daniel replied, "we tried ironing but no work.... you have to take to dry cleaning who have big machine"..... are you kidding me. Perhaps the most expensive and arrogant tailor shop to work with! They charge over double what other professionals charge and give you the worst service ever. Their price for shortening a jacket sleeve was $180 and I was able to get very Professional work from another tailor for only $45 (same day service). I have been to many tailors in the East and west coast and this shop is the absolute worst in pricing and customer service. read more

Repaired but left glue marks for my belt stitching. They did a great job before with unnoticeable repair, but this time, I could see glue unfortunately. I still was able to pickup same day though, which was great. Other than that it was great service. read more

I'm short. I don't mind it much- guys seem to think its cute and I have an incredibly tall roommate who helps me reach the hidden Halloween candy on the top shelf which I'm not supposed to find. Not a big deal, right? Wrong. EVERY pair of pants must be hemmed. A lot. Just about any tailor can handle that, just take it to your local drycleaner, right? Not when it comes to denim. I don't know about you, but I rarely wear anything other than denim- skinny or flared, designer or otherwise, for work or play, denim has become a staple of everyday life. Take it from a denim connoisseur- not all denim hems are alike- there are thread color choices involved, and more importantly the perfectly placed bleaching, rivets, or tears that give your jeans character. Many tailors or seamstresses will take your jeans, turn up the hem and put a stitch about a quarter of an inch up in dark blue thread to match your jeans- all wrong. Not at Sun Tailoring at Tyson's Galleria. After adjusting the legs to the desired length, they reattach the original perfect hem. It's slightly more costly (about $20 if I remember correctly) but well worth every penny. read more

Easily one of the most frustrating tailors I've ever worked with. I needed a new suit tailored for a wedding and Mr. Sun did my measurements, which was fine, but simply had no time to listen to what I wanted. He literally spent maybe 1-minute measuring. My suit needed to be taken in and I asked for a modern cut (meaning not too boxy). Evidentially Mr. Sun had a different idea. $160 later I'm trying on the "tailored" suit that clearly was altered to be 100% traditional. I've bought off-the-rack suits that looked more fitted. If you want a traditional, boxy and shapeless fit - then I think this is your guy. If you want someone who will listen to your needs and give you a modern finish, look elsewhere. But I can say his wife was very nice! By the way, I had used Mr. Sun once before to alter a Pink shirt for me to get a more custom feel. That too was an average job, but I figured I'd give him a second chance because his location was convenient. Such a mistake. read more

I've been for a couple dress alterations and both experiences were excellent. In one case he was just hemming and adjusting the strap on a bridesmaid's dress, and while everything was done perfectly, it didn't really offer a chance to show how talented he is. I challenged him the second time to take a dress that otherwise fit and make it fit around the bust, where it was way too small. I brought him matching fabric to use, he briefly measured, and said it would be ready in a week. I walked away a little nervous because it was all so fast. When I came back and tried the dress on it fit like a glove! Absolutely perfect. He worked the changes in with the design so you would have no idea it wasn't made that way. Beyond the talent, they are so friendly and fast and the prices are reasonable. I would recommend him in a heartbeat and already have! read more

I am in Mclean on business and its freezing. I have a nice coat but a button came unstitched. I was at Tyson's Corner and in search of a tailor. Sun Tailoring was on the directory so I thought I would head up. Located on the 3rd floor the of the Tyson's II Galleria the proprietor dropped what he was doing and happily fixed the stitching on my coat, flawlessly I might add. It took only minutes and I was charged nothing for the repair. While I was looking around I noticed the fine work he had done on everything I saw in for repair. A stellar review with immense gratitude to the fine people at Sun Tailoring. When I was young, I bought myself the most beautiful leather jacket - the first nice thing I was able to buy when I began working. In March, it got stuck on a door handle and ripped in an inopportune location. Neither some of the experts nor Prada could fix it for me. I wasn't giving up easily - and thankfully, I found Sun Tailoring! This was no problem for Sun Tailoring, which creatively repaired this most sentimental piece for me and did a beautiful job - the previous damage is barely detectable. It's one of those jackets that has been with me to many places - always fits regardless of the number on the scale and gives me great joy wearing it. I can't say enough to support this business. I just brought him a damaged suit jacket that another tailor instantly told me could not be repaired, and he fixed it in 4 minutes right in front of me. Mr Sun is great. Always does what I need and what I envision. I just took a dress in that I got for a steal, and pretty much reworked it- better neckline, took it in, created darts where it needed it. Still was a good deal. He is a very nice man. I have never found him argumentative like another poster wrote. He is fast, the work is great, and it lasts. My entire family have been going to him since he set up shop in Tysons. read more

My sister's graduation was the next day and she had a special dress already made - but the zipper broke as she was trying it on for her big day. It was 10 minutes until Sun's would've closed when I called, but he told us we could come in and have him do a quick fix! Within five minutes after working on it, he had it fixed - and because it was her big day, he did the job free of charge! Mr. Sun accommodated us and made us feel much more comforted, considering the state of panic we came in at. The only reason this isn't a five star review is because the next morning, the zipper broke again (though, not his fault - it was a cheaply made zipper - it wasn't a permanent fix). I wish he'd told us something about how to ensure it wouldn't come apart again :( read more

I visited Sun Tailoring in an "emergency" situation- a wedding emergency! On the day of my friend's wedding, we realized an issue with the zipper on her gorgeous wedding gown that prohibited it from zipping up. Staying calm, the bride's sister and I went to the Galleria to find a tailor that could fix this problem and keep the event on schedule- not an easy task! Mr. Sun did an amazing job fixing the zipper in no time at all and instructed us on how to zip it up so that the problem doesn't happen again. He was quick, efficient and understood the circumstances of the wedding. I tried this tailor after being told by Saks that I would have to wait a month to have my Hugo Boss suit tailored and the Hugo Boss store only tailors suits that they sell you. The guy at Saks recommended Sun Tailoring and said he always recommends them and a lot of places in the mall do, so i decided to try them out. Not a bad place but was expecting a "fitted look" as stated in another review as "modern." I have an athletic build, 5'9" and weigh around 190 lbs. The Hugo Boss suit did not fit me like a glove, and for $160 and a week I expected at least something close. I purchased a chocolate brown Hugo Boss suit a few years back which I had tailored by the Hugo Boss store's tailor and it was the best fitted suit I ever owned. I was hoping the same result for this suit. Instead the suit I had Sun tailor fit like something off the rack, not a bad fit but a fit i can get for $300 at TJ Maxx without any tailoring. I now have a $1,200 Hugo Boss suit that has a $300 fit. On top of everything the suit was not even pressed and there were threads all over the suit. I have never received a tailored suit in worse condition. I would never recommend this place if you are in a time crunch. I have to go home inspect, remove all the lint/threads, and iron the suit the night before my daughters Christening. If I could do it all over again I would've just purchased my suit at the Hugo Boss store directly and had the tailoring done through them. Just a reminder a suit is only as good as its tailoring. ***6-3-14 UPDATE So after wearing the suit a few times I must say it was tailored much better than I initially thought based on the compliments I received. The condition of the suit still wasn't great but I recently had another suit tailored by Sun which came out flawless and in ready to wear condition. Overcharging I need a coat that needed to be shortened (sleeve and hem), simple straight work they wanted $150 for that. When I said it's a little high, they said they'd give me a $20 discount, so I agreed. At the same time the 4 snap buttons on the coat needed to be replaced. I ordered 4 sets of buttons and took them to the shop. They wanted $80 to change 4 sets of snap buttons. I understand the real estate at Tysons II is expensive but not as expensive as Sun Tailor. read more

When I moved to the area in 1988, the of the first merchant I dealt with was Sun Tailoring. I had to get a suit altered and although Sun tailoring was not cheap, they did a great job. Now fast forward 21 years to 2009 and Sun Tailoring is still my number one pick for reliable tailoring in the Mclean-Tysons area. After finally getting myself back in shape and losing 25 lbs, I am once again using Sun Tailoring for all my suit alterations. And they continue to do a wonderful job. I do not disagree that Mr. Sun and his shop do good alterations/tailoring. Ultimately, though, Mr. Sun doesn't realize that he is providing a fee-for-service and that he should take his customers' opinion into account. After listening to his opinion and allowing him to do the tailoring to his wishes on an evening gown, I insisted that he do it the way I wanted it. His way looked fine but was not functional for walking/dancing/etc. The problem that followed was not that he didn't execute but that he was rude, insulting, and sarcastic both during our heated discussion about it and when I came to pick it up. And throughout his tone was passive/aggressive. All of his rudeness is what I cannot overlook and for that reason I will not be back and do not recommend this shop. I agree with previous reviewers as well that the language barrier is too difficult to overcome, especially for people who are very particular about what they want (like me) and don't simply want to follow his advice blindly.
