I have been finding myself coming to this theater almost every two weeks now. Even though I live off of US 41, the location is still fairly close and there are places to dine and drink in the area too. Nights and weekends the tickets here are $2.50, which is a nice break from the $8-10 prices that are at most theaters in Florida. This theater takes you back to the 80's, with the arcade games and décor that are offered. The places looks old and busted, but there is charm in that. The movies played here are often still in wide release and they also offer at least one foreign film at a time, which is a stretch for this area, if you want to watch on a full size screen (not a TV screen). Went to Parkway 8 Cinema with my wife to see Divergent. The movie tickets for a 1:20 pm show on a Saturday afternoon were only $2 a piece. This place is a dive but you should already expect this going in, especially when the movie tickets are so cheap. They make money when they only accept cash for EVERYTHING. They won't allow you to use a debit card or credit card. There is an ATM machine which charges $2 to withdraw money when you don't have cash coming in. Here is a break down of my charges. $2 - ATM Fee $4 - 2 Movie Tickets $10.75 - Large Drink/Large Popcorn Combo Total = $16.75 Bring cash, go for the kids combo which includes smaller drink and smaller popcorn and you can save $6. BTW, a large popcorn is huge. My wife and I only managed to eat 1/3 of the bag! In conclusion, this place a kinda of gross. There were some bums spitting in the aisle and talking during the movie but it wasn't that bad. For $2 per movie ticket, you can't go wrong. Bring your own snacks, soda, bring cash, and you can enjoy a movie for only $2 per person. Rates increase as the day goes on. read more

Okay so this place has $2 matinee movies on a Sunday. The movies that are played are movies that are about to go to DVD but still newer. This place is no frills and we were the youngest people in the theater by 30 years probably. It is Sarasota though ;-) I mean for the price it is worth it if you are bored and short on cash. Speaking of cash, they only take it. They have an ATM if you forget though! Don't worry about it being too cold in the theater, because I am pretty sure they keep their AC on 80. Oh and the sound system was weird too. It would be really quiet one second then really loud the other. It also seemed like the speakers in the back were the only ones working. I looked at the pictures for the theater and thought it looked fairly clean. One photo was even captioned "clean". That's not what we experienced when we got there. There were two teens running the show. One was rude and made it clear he didn't want to be there. The theater smelled funky and was a hot mess. The snacks were as expensive as Regal or AMC and refills will cost you extra. The seats were close together and not very comfortable the theater had a musty smell. That was better than the bathroom and walkway which smelled like eggs. When I went to the bathroom during the movie, the employees were sitting on the recliners playing on their phones. Also the walls were really thin in the theater and you could hear the movie cross the hall playing. I get that it's a cheap, second run movie theater but that shouldn't mean it can be dirty. I have been to similar theaters that were not this rundown and gross. When we left, my husband commented that he felt the need to take a shower... it was that bad. read more

Anyway, none of us had those recliners in theaters when we were younger- they are not a necessity! You can catch a movie a week for $8/month, and have popcorn (yes, it's good!) for a few bucks more. Where can you see a movie for 2.50 on a big screen. That's cheaper than a starbucks latte. Obviously, the place is a dive, but doesn't that make it fun? Also, the snack bar is much cheaper than a normal theatre. You can go out to dinner in the plaza and see a movie for less than going to a big box theatre. I'm not one to go see a movie 'opening weekend'. I could care less, so since they are a little behind the new releases, it works for me. read more

I've been to several different "dollar theaters" across the country and this one was probably the worst I've been to so far. The sound quality was very poor. Normally, I don't really care about the colors and design but this place seems to have not been updated since the 80s. Although the theater itself leaves something to be desired, I probably would frequent it often based solely on the price if I lived in the area. As long as the sound quality isn't too bad, you can lose yourself in the movie and hopefully forget about the ugly theater. read more

Old, worn, kinda dirty and actually has surly, pimple-faced teenagers working the concessions. I'm not complaining though. That's what a $2 ($1.50 matinee) movie ticket buys you. I've been to better cinemas but paying $14 plus another $7 for a "small" popcorn and then having to sit almost below the screen in the front row of the stadium-style theatre because you didn't get there 1hr early doesn't make a movie any more enjoyable. I saw 'Coco Before Chanel' which is known as 'Coco avant Chanel' everywhere else in the world. I actually thought we might be the only people in the theatre for the film but a few stragglers came in just before it started. I think there were 6 of us in the theatre in total. Big turn out. It's a second-run only theatre, so expect to see films that came out a season earlier. True story, I once walked out of god-awful film Disney film African Lions, here it was just so terrible and unbearable. The selection here can be hit and miss and sometimes that means you end up seeing a movie you wouldn't go to otherwise, which is how I ended up in this pseudo-Planet Earth style film. I took my daughter here on memorial day to see a movie. I would like to explain to you all what happened. After the movie my daughter (10 years old) wanted a drink, so I said to her I am going to the restroom so here is $5 to buy a bottle of water. I return from the rest room to find my daughter with a fountain drink cup with faucet water in it. I ask my daughter for the change and she said there is no change! I went to the cashier and asks why she charged my child $5 for faucet water?!! She had the bare faced cheek to say we didn't charge for the water we charged for the "cup". So I asked why she didn't sell her the bottle of Dasani water?? She just shrugged her shoulders and carried on with wither work. I think that is an absolute disgrace that they treated a young girl this way. I will contact the mangagement at the movie theater. read more

Wow!!! Been coming here for years with my family and have never had the horrific customer service as I did tonight!! They were scoping popcorn into a garbage bag when my son asked for his already paid for refill and they said NO!!! No money needed to exchange hands so there was no excuse to be so rice to a paying 11 year old customer!! I'm a big fan of discounts and we have been frequent patrons of this business but the last 3 experiences have been so horrible that not only are not going back but feel compelled to warn others that this theatre is no longer a value. In the last 3 visits. Visit 1- theatre smells and there is tons of popcorn, Kleenex, popcorn bags and other trash on the theatre floor Visit 2- Movie doesn't start on time, after two visits to the front they finally start the movie 20 minutes late. Manager is rude when I complain that I had let them know 10 minutes after the movie was supposed to start, and worse when I went back out after 18 minutes to ask why it hadn't been fixed. "I've been busy selling tickets". Visit 3 tonight and final- sound in the preview is like a rock concert and is coming out of the wrong speakers and out of sync with the video in the previews. When I notify them something is wrong they inform me that it will correct in 15 minutes when the main feature starts. Customers have fingers and hands covering ears for the entire series of movie previews. When the feature starts sound is still out of balance with unusual loud dialog coming out of left side bank of speakers. We got our money back and left for the final time. The young women who apparently was the manager tonight has no business being responsible for a theater and wouldn't trust this business to project a movie, let alone handle a customer health emergency. Actually for the price you can't go wrong. I think previous reviews are based on the $10.00 tickets you pay at regular theaters where you expect good service, super clean theaters and terrific sound. Remember you get what you pay for and this is an exceptional price for what you pay for. This was my first and last visit to this dump. We arrived at 4:10 for a 4:15 movie. There were easily 50 people in line. We waited and there was only 1 person working to give tickets. At 4:30 we got to the register and found out it was cash only and we did not have any on us. There was no sign on the entry or notice on their site providing this info.
