They were flexible in their scheduling and prepared our kid well, so she passed her road test on her first try.

Their lessons were worlds apart from my initial lesson. I took 5 lessons with these guys and I got my license this morning! I booked the test through the school and it went *chef's kiss* so smooth and stress-free. Shout out to the receptionist as well for being super informative about what to expect/bring for the test. This rating would be 5 stars if not for my initial experience. My advice to potential students - and this honestly goes against my own ethos: if you're not vibing with one of the instructors, try another! Though a business really only gets one chance to make a first impression - there are some really good instructors at this school. Don't let one experience stop you from your endgame.

Inconsistent, Unprofessional, and Ultimately a Waste of Time & Money…read more I am writing this review on behalf of my father, a retired military Veteran from India, who just completed 7 lessons with Brookline Driving School. Unfortunately, his experience was overwhelmingly disappointing and I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. Our primary issue was the complete lack of consistency between instructors. He had at least three different teachers, primarily switching between Ervin and Vitaly. While Ervin was patient and seemed to genuinely enjoy teaching, the same cannot be said for his counterpart. Vitaly was, frankly, obnoxious. He lacked basic respect for his students, was often loud and visibly frustrated, creating an environment where my father felt intimidated and unable to ask questions. If you don't have the patience for this job, why are you in it? To make matters worse, he made uncalled-for and stereotypical "jokes" about Indians being bad drivers, which was completely unprofessional and offensive. The biggest practical problem arose from this inconsistency. Ervin and Vitaly taught completely different techniques for parallel parking. One would say to do it one way, and the next lesson, the other would contradict it. This constant change in instruction confused my father daily and shattered his confidence. The culmination of this failure was on his road test. He failed specifically because of the parallel parking maneuver. The conflicting advice from his own instructors left him unsure of the correct method, leading to a critical error. I hold Brookline Driving School 100% responsible for this. We are cutting our losses and heeding our neighbors' recommendation to try Waltham Driving School instead. Save your time, your money, and your sanity--go somewhere else. This school is unorganized and employs instructors who are not aligned, with at least one who lacks the basic demeanor required to teach.

I first chose SDS as my driving school because I could pick up classes whenever I was free, this was convenient as a 3 season athlete, music kid, and AP honor roll student. But almost immediately it became a problem because their schedule is impossible to read due to the confusing layout (on microsoft word no less so you have to download it, very inconvenient on mac), and then you have to try to decipher when each class is and which location it is at. This leads into my next complaint. If you try to call the office to ask a quick, polite, clarifying question, Gillie (the owner) will pickup the phone and reply rudely with "I don't know, whatever is on the website, just read the schedule" ultimately leaving me at square one of confusion. Half of the time when I would show up for a scheduled class i would walk in only to find out that it had been cancelled, or it had been switched for another class that i did not need. Next comes the disorganization. Aside from the terrible website and schedule access it is next to impossible to book driving hours with them. ADDITIONALLY, once you finally get a driving hour they will keep you in the car an extra hour after your lesson because of poor scheduling and then they will deny you that last hour credit even though you were in the car observing for that extra hour because of their bad planning and poor communication between instructors. Besides all of that their classrooms are abysmal their sharon, and Easton locations are downright sketchy. They are far too cold in the winter, and the Easton location is very hard to find. I would never recommend this place to anyone, in fact I find myself warning others to go anywhere but SDS It's a miracle I got my license at all

I'm not trying to criticize his technique as a whole, but I do want others to have a clear sense of what to expect. Booking a session was quick and easy, and I was able to get an appointment the very next day, which I really appreciated. I understand that driving instructors sometimes need to be curt and direct for safety reasons. However, I think the type of feedback also needs to match the situation and the student's experience level. For me, the lesson felt like an hour of being yelled at. I was constantly aware that I was doing something wrong, but not always what I had done wrong or how to fix it. My impression was that Lucien overestimated my prior driving experience. This could likely have been resolved by taking a few moments to pause, talk through what we were about to do, and ask whether I had done it before. When I asked questions, Lucien was willing to demonstrate, but many of his instructions weren't clear to me, and his tone made me feel as though I was being scolded, even if that wasn't his intention. If I made the same mistake multiple times, that suggested I didn't understand something, not that I wasn't trying. Instead, he seemed frustrated that I didn't get it immediately and would tell me I was doing it wrong without giving concrete, descriptive feedback about how to correct it. For example, when I was practicing turning, he would yell that I was doing it wrong and grab the wheel, which didn't help me understand what I needed to change. It would have been far more helpful to pull over, explain the steps clearly, and then practice on a quiet street where I could try again safely and independently. There were also times when I misunderstood his instructions (for instance, going into the leftmost lane instead of going to the leftmost lane that eventually turns right). His immediate response was to yell that I hadn't listened, rather than clarify what I had misunderstood. This approach felt infantilizing and made me upset and distracted, which wasn't conducive to learning. Pedagogically, it also didn't make much sense to me. I wasn't paying $70 an hour to ignore instructions; if I wasn't following them correctly, it meant something about the instructions wasn't clear. A more helpful response would have been to ask what part I had misunderstood and adjust the explanation so I could succeed next time. Overall, Lucien may be a good fit for students who thrive under very direct and high-pressure instruction, are very good at articulating the specific skills that they already have and are hoping to gain, and are better at interpreting his feedback. For others, his style may be stressful and difficult to learn from.

One instructor kept asking if I could see. She's slammed on the brakes many times for no reason. I would understand if I was doing something unsafe but like it was literally every single turn. She also yelled at me and made up weird situations, like saying I hit a person when I had a green light. Like no, there fully wasn't a pedestrian there. And if there was, I would've stopped. I remember once a light turned yellow but I had plenty of time. It was gonna make it through before it turned red. The instructor slammed on her brakes and we ended up in the middle of the intersection because there was absolutely no way to stop before the light. We then sat there until our light turned green again and we were blocking traffic. the whole cycle she would not let me go, even though we were in the middle of the intersection Scheduling lessons was also a nightmare. They say lessons are posted at noon on Wednesdays, but they're actually gone way before that. You have to check super early and keep refreshing the page. A lot of the instructors corrected me every two seconds, and didn't give me any room to learn or practice on my own. It felt like they wouldn't let me try to figure things out, which was really frustrating. The classroom part was okay, but the driving part was awful. I would not recommend this school to anyone.
