My resident had surgery and they told no one about it. They also do not pay attention to their residents, they told us that my resident fell off their bed but no they actually slipped on water and went to the hospital. They also lie about doctors visiting and if you have a paid appointment for the salon to get hair dyed, nails done, toes done. They will take the money and not do anything they said they would do. Even after you call them to tell them "hey, I paid for my residents hair and nails to be done" they will say they'll look into it and do nothing about it. Every time I visit my resident, their nails (toes and fingers) are extremely long. We tell them to cut them several times they do NOT. We pay to have them remind my resident to to shower, to wear pads, to brush their hair, brush their teeth. Every time we visited they were filthy, and their room smelt like urine. This has happened for the past year now. They also do not tell you if your resident is out of shampoo or conditioner. My resident was pre diabetic and we had told them they can't have too many sweets. She gained over 50 pounds within the first few months she was there and is now obese and diabetic. This wouldn't have happened if they monitored and paid attention like we've been paying them to do. We complained and tried to get this resolved several times and were nice about it since we don't want them to take it out on our resident. We have wasted so much money that we basically do not have just for them to not do their job. This place is unhygienic and neglectful. Senior living advisers who get PAID to give out recommendations don't even recommend them anymore because they're so bad. Adding to my review because they also failed to notify us that my resident has fallen on multiple occasions and also never mentioned my resident has parkinson's disease which worsens dementia and put my resident on an anti psychotic which by the way WORSENS fall rate. They settled in and generally appreciated the staff and the environment. Their complaints were minor. On a warm Saturday morning in June 2023 they signed out of BV on the resident log stating that they were headed "out to breakfast." After breakfast, they went to their home to retrieve a few items as they were preparing to sell the home. Mom fell around lunchtime on Saturday on the back patio. My step-dad is cognitively and mobility impaired and his phone was not charged so he could not seek assistance. Buckner did not notice that they missed lunch on Saturday. Or dinner. Or medicines on Saturday evening. Bucker did not notice that they missed breakfast on Sunday as well as lunch, dinner, and medicines on Sunday evening. A reasonably careful employee should have checked the log at each point and asked whether "breakfast" should last that long. A reasonably careful employee would have called mom or my step-dad to see if they were ok. A reasonably careful employee would have called me to check her phone's location or trace their steps. Buckner did none of these things. A neighbor notified us that the garage door had been open for more than a day and we discovered my mother had passed away and my step-dad was barely responsive. We returned my step-dad to Buckner at around 11pm and Buckner refused to administer his medicines saying he had already been given medicines for the evening. That was a lie (to cover someone's tracks) and a dangerous lie because he needed his medicines. If you have family at Buckner Villas assisted living, make sure you have some way to monitor them independently.

The environment far surpasses other options. It is a spacious house with personalized rooms, low resident-to-staff ratio, and customized meals. The staff are always friendly, helpful and attentive. The owner Terri and manager Haley have always gone the extra mile to answer questions, assist with paperwork, and coordinate care with visiting health care providers. The residents have also been regularly entertained by musicians. Our mom has especially enjoyed the classical guitarist. It may cost a little more than your average care facility, but it is well worth every penny!

I've been reflecting on this review since I first moved my elderly parents into this facility a…read moreyear and a half ago. I hesitated to write a review earlier, because I did not know if it would affect their care. Sadly they have now both passed. If I could have offered this feedback directly and felt that it would be heard, I would have done that. But my strong impression dealing with the management here is that they are not interested in feedback and do not view it as a way of learning or improving as a business, but rather as a waste of time and a source of resentment. So I just want to make sure others have an informed understanding of what they are getting themselves into here. The kind of review that I wish I had had myself when I first uprooted my parents, both of them with advanced Parkinson's Disease, and moved them across the country from Pennsylvania to live here. Highlights: - The facility is very beautiful. That was what I was sold on originally. - The sales team is kind and good at their job. I feel that they did their best to lean in and smooth the way for my parents and for me, even though when it came to actual management of the residence, that went beyond their scope. - There are many individual nurses and caregivers who are very caring and good at their jobs. - Overall I believe that the facility is mismanaged. The leadership of the center is inaccessible. They do not come to work. They do not pick up their phones. They do not respond to emails. There are no company email lists that allow you to get greater visibility for your communication so that someone higher up will hold the facility accountable to respond--your email goes into an individual email inbox where it is largely ignored. - The nurses and caregivers are not actively managed. No one helps them organize themselves or facilitates communication. No one is present to see first hand when they are over-stretched and cannot handle all of the individual needs on their floor. This results in some pretty serious mismanagement of medication. One time I discovered purely by accident, because I happened to visit, that my father had not received his Parkinson's medication for 3 days, because they had not re-ordered it from the pharmacy or had some type of snag. And they did not call me or make sure that it was resolved. They just let the medication lapse. - Once I saw that was happening, I went far, far, far out of my way to create written medication schedules to try to ensure medication was administered correctly. Multiple times my father himself caught incorrect medication, even though he was barely in a cognitive state to be able to do that and it was very unfair for him to have to be concerned with it. Again, I do not attribute this to the nurses. They are good, well meaning people who want to do their jobs. I attribute it to management that does not put in place systems for them or help organize things or ensure good communication. They just are sort of left there to function as best as they can without leadership. - Most of the nurses / caregivers they hire are good, but some are NOT good. Early on, there was a nurse on the team who got into a very adversarial relationship with my mother, trying to force her to go to bed or to get up or something that she did not want to do. When I came to visit after a week trip I found her in a paranoid, delusional state, convinced that someone was trying to hurt her. Of course she was very sick and it was basically a delusion. But when I interacted with that nurse myself, I understood why she felt that way. He was aggressive and controlling. They did promise to fire that nurse. But then on a future occasion I came back and found him there. I had to complain again. - Memory care is a bit better. But primarily it is better because once someone is on hospice, they have access to a separate hospice provider who comes INTO the facility to provide care. And that hospice provider is excellent, top to bottom. I cannot possibly say enough good things about them. But they are not employed or managed by the center. They just come in on a daily basis to provide care. - In the last month of my father's life, he developed very severe delusions arising out of Parkinson's related dementia, and became aggressive. It was very sad and very hard to watch. My father was a mild-mannered mathematician all his life. It simply was not him or his character to behave in the way he did. - I was so upset by the way the facility handled this. They called the police on him. I had to drop everything and rush over to keep them from escalating past a point of no return. When I went up to the apartment, Brenda, the leader in charge of AL, was smirking and laughing at him and his delusions. It turned my stomach. It still keeps me up at night. If you have your parents or loved ones here, please be prepared to work directly with the staff yourself to ensure communication & good care. It requires constant vigilance.

A lot of people in and out to visit and hospice was there almost every day. They were so welcoming and accommodating and kind with everyone. More important was the incredible care they gave our dad. They couldn't have treated him with more attention, love, and skilled care. They consistently reported back to us how things were going in detail and were in lock-step with hospice. We felt so relieved to have him in such a wonderful place. And, it is clean, has a large parking area... a very comforting and homey feel.

12/30/2021- My father was transferred here after contracting covid 19 to quarantine. He arrived on…read morea Thursday afternoon. It wasn't until 18 hours later that I was able to get in touch with him. The staff never gave him his personal cell phone, nor did they answer their phones at the facility. Trying to get in touch with anyone there was impossible after MANY MANY attempts. When I did talk to someone I was told "everyone was off due to the holiday". It wasn't until receiving a text the following Monday 1/3/2022 asking to sign admission paperwork for the transfer, I did actually speak to someone for longer than 1 minute. At that time I asked for a update and strongly voice my frustrations. My reply in text was enough to actually receive a phone call from someone. At that time is where I voiced my concerns about the lack of administration, communication, and it being impossible to reach anyone there. Heaven forbid there be an emergency on my end, or on his. I'm almost certain I wouldn't be able to get through, or even receive a call if something happened to him. I will say after voicing my concerns things got slightly better. But that was still after multiple attempts. Today my dad returned back to his initial facility. Upon his arrival the nurses, and wound care did a full evaluation, and documentation on my dad. He has bruising all over both arms (possibly due to blood work, yet he has a picc line), a fungal infection under his arm pits, and groin area, they noticed what looked to be bed sores on his back, bottom, and heels of his feet from not transitioning him, or offloading his weight during his stay. He literally was in bed and the same position for 10 days straight from the sounds of the report I got this evening 1/10/2022. The wound care he was receiving from an amputation was larger upon his return, than it was when he left only ten days earlier. Due to being a covid patient, I was unable to visit, and relied on him answering his phone to get any sort of updates. If your loved one doesn't have a cell phone, do NOT plan on any communication! Make sure it's plugged in and kept charging. AT ALL TIMES! PLEASE if you send a family member here, make sure to be there as much as you possibly can be!!! I'm sure if something did happen you'd never hear about it from anyone. From what I've experienced these last 10 days I wouldn't recommend having anyone stay at Legend Oaks North Austin. Maybe things would have been different if I was able to be there daily. But given him being covid positive no one was able to enter the 300 hall staff included, nor send me to the nurses station phone "because they don't have one in that hall". Keep researching!!!
