We…read morerecently moved her to another place, and the difference in the care and her well being speaks volumes. There are several good caregivers here; however, I am unable to recommend this community because of the following issues: 1. Lack of communication: Although we were assured when she moved in that we would be updated on her care and condition on a monthly basis, we were seldom updated on her condition unless there was some kind of emergency. We received no regular status updates of how she was doing. 2. Lots of turnover: I understand the senior living industry experiences high turnover in general; however, this place is a revolving door except for a few good caregivers. Depending on who the administrator and memory care director was at the time, it varied on if we were able to communicate with the memory care director. Note: the administrator who was there at the time we moved her was very responsive and nice (Shelly Vercell) 3. Lack of activities: Lots of TV time, few activities. 4. Cost increases: Within six months they issued two large increases, justifying one by saying our mother needed additional care, and justifying the next increase so that they could pay their staff more. The place was quickly becoming a cash drain despite the problems. 5. Reimbursement of funds due to us: We had to give a 30 day notice which is understandable, and pay the month in advance. It took numerous calls and emails over two months to get the funds due back to us that we had prepaid. We were told numerous times "it's being mailed" and it was not until I called the corporate office that we received payment. No apologies from corporate, either.

I can't even begin to tell you how many activity directors left, with only a couple that were dedicated to providing residents with mental stimulation. They mostly watched t.v. or napped which is what you would expect in a nursing home and not memory care.I felt that the caregivers were dedicated and did the best that they could considering the huge turn over of staff. Communication was nonexistent and the main phone number was rarely answered. After 3 years we decided to transfer my 93 year old Mom to a different facility. She went from being kept in a wheelchair for 3 years even though she can walk without assistance to never using one at all. She has scheduled activities from morning until bedtime and never takes a nap. The facility has courtyards that the residents are encouraged to enjoy and they are taken on frequent bus trips. My Mom never left the building previously unless I took her. The last straw was taking months of calling management for the refund that we were owed after the move.We finally called the owner and never got a response but finally received the check today.

The place is very clean and bright with a very pleasant dining area. My parents love the food, staff and the onsite physical therapy with great therapist. The activities director is very involved and a great encouragement to residents. The quality of care is wonderful and we recommend this place.

The advertised menu offerings are impressive but extremely lacking in practice. Can you find someone, anyone, who can cook vegetables until they are tender. Most of us have no teeth, for gosh sakes. Staffing during and after the pandemic has been difficult. Many times the administrative staff has to abandon their offices to fill in for missing workers and there hasn't been a full-time "chef" for many months. Some of these issues are probably not unique to Franklin Park but please, don't be fooled by physical appearances.

But staff was very cordial to me upon entering facility always. Unfortunately, after my visit , my father developed a bed sore on the side he needed a position change. I was told that wound care was taking care of it in mid January only to find my father being rushed to the hospital on Feb 1st with malnutrition, dehydration, septic shock and upon evaluation at hospital was diagnosed with gangrene in 3 different places a few sores ready to burst and contusions in several places. Hence my father died from gangrene and the bacteria had traveled throughout his bloodstream and taken over all organs leaving my father in pain and to suffer for 8 days until he passed from the flesh eating bacteria. Please if your loved one cannot talk to you and tell you what is going on, please keep them at home safe where they can be monitored with security cameras. As most nursing homes don't have them as I found out .

Moving into The Reserve is the best thing I ever did. I got…read more a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen equipped with a large refrigerator and a microwave oven. Plenty of cabinet space and drawers. The kitchen also has a large double stainless steel sink and faucet. The wall across from the kitchen has a large closet for storage and also a full size GE washing machine and dryer. The living room has plenty of room for a large recliner, a grandfather clock, a 65 inch Samsung TV and a large double door cabinet where I have my 27 inch iMac computer. Between the recliner and outside wall I also have a 36"x36" pedestal table, where I have a large hammered copper lamp with shade. The two walls forming the corner behind the recliner and grandfather clock, have two large glass windows covered by Venetian blinds. Moving through the lockable door into the bedroom there is room enough for a queen sized bed, and a three drawer cabinet with lamp. The outside wall has a large window covered with Venetian blinds. Sliding double doors lead into a closet with plenty of room for hanging shirts, and with shelves that hold baskets for socks, and underwear. Under the shelf on the right there is room for a large four drawer cabinet where I can store pajamas and a large collection of various shoes. A single sliding door leads into a spacious bathroom, complete with a shower, toilet, and lavatory. There are two spacious cabinets and drawers next to the shower. Another reason I picked this third floor apartment is that it is located next to the fire escape stairs. I never use the elevators because I like the exercise I get walking up and down the stairs. My apartment is also located at the very end of this wing of The Reserve apartment complex. Consequently I don't hear or see any of my neighbors. Thanks for your time and attention. So when we moved our loved one from a truly horrible place to HL we were already expecting a bad experience. However HL is the only and I repeat THE ONLY place I would recommend. There were no complaints at all. The staff have all been there for a while and they all care. Long term caring staff is hard to find when it comes to memory care. We didn't have to micromanage because they were on top of it all. The only complaint we had was it was too far so we moved our loved one to a facility closer and we have regretted it from day one. I would rather make a trip to visit and know he is in good hands than have him closer and micromanage and watch the poor care he's receiving. Heritage Lakes is the best. Everyone is caring and loving.

Team works hard to give each resident personal care. Food is better than in most facilities I have seen. Because it is currently small, you're not going to see the variety of events and activities that you'll see at a larger facility, but what's most important for my mom is the personal care she's getting to meet her needs. We still have to tweak things at times but management and leadership is very willing and motivated to address staff, procedural, other issues, and continue to improve. I definitely recommend.
