The food here is genuinely good -- well-cooked, clearly upscale for the Tex Mex category, and the service staff are attentive and friendly. But a few things held this visit back from being a great experience. The biggest issue, and the one that cost the most stars: the noise. There's essentially no acoustic treatment in the dining room, and even at maybe 25% capacity, the sound is overwhelming. We couldn't hold a conversation without leaning in and repeating ourselves constantly. That's a real problem. It also had a direct impact on our order -- our server couldn't hear us clearly either, so a simple substitution (no beans, double rice) came out as no beans and no rice. Small thing, but avoidable. On the menu side, the descriptions need work. The patron salad lists "house dressing" with no further detail -- turns out it's quite sweet, which felt out of place on that dish. That's emblematic of the menu overall: the flavor combinations lean creative, sometimes mixing profiles that don't really belong together in a Tex Mex context. It's not bad, just occasionally confusing, and more transparency in the descriptions would help guests set expectations. Bottom line: solid kitchen, good staff, but fix the acoustics and tighten up the menu copy and this place has real potential. read more

I've eaten food from Parrando's twice now - the first time - to go; the second time I ate in. Judging a restaurant's food based on your enjoyment of something to go is not something I do - as the food is never as good as it could be after sitting for a bit. The first time - I ordered Nachos and a Beef Burrito to go. I'll try the Nachos and Beef Burrito again in-house before I come to a conclusion about those two menu items The second visit - I had the shrimp tacos served on soft flour tortillas - served with a spicy sauce, a side of Chorizo Con Queso, plus a cold pint of Pacifico. Parrando's bills itself as "Quick Serve." However, my second visit was anything but quick. The Pacifico Beer and chips with the Chorizo Con Queso were brought out to me relatively quickly. The Chorizo Con Queso is not very good. It tastes like straight melted Velveeta cheese - with some pieces of chopped Chorizo links sprinkled on top. No flavor - other than from the Chorizo. There is a huge opportunity here for them to use the canvas of the queso sauce and work some flavors into it. It took approximately 25 minutes for my Shrimp Tacos to arrive. My server came by on 5 separate occasions to apologize for how long it was taking. Poor guy - it's not his fault that kitchen is behind. The Shrimp Tacos - when I finally got them, were pretty good. This is an "order at the counter, and they bring to your table " type place. Ordered 2 Chicken Burritos , one shredded, one grilled. 2 cokes and chips and Salsa . Food was warm (a little low to me) , plates were very hot. Price is a bit high compared to another well known Tex-Mex just down the street (about +15%) and without full service. Clearly trying to pull together service, but they forgot the $2.95 chips and Salsa , so I took that to go. It is still a bit cool, but the patio looks very promising for this summer. I did like the nachos today but for the money, I could get a whole 3 person tray closeby, for similar to what I paid here for single chip nachos. I didnt get my jalapeños on there either. I didnt say anything about it. They were busy in there today. I also got some fish tacos to go. I ate one of the three when I got home. They were good. Last time I came in my salmon and shrimp were overcooked and a bit on the dry side. For the price, I want some consistently great food and service with a smile. Tried a couple apps here once when they first opened and thought their platanos were good. Ended up making reservations to come for an informal graduation dinner. There were 18 of us in total on a Saturday night and Parrando's delivered all around. The table was completely ready when we arrived just before the reservation and they took the cake to their kitchen for safekeeping until dessert. As people came in our server was very attentive and regularly checking in to make sure everyone was cared for. Everyone had water and refills when needed, and chips and salsa before entrees. Although I did not know what every person ordered, food included nachos, fish tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and t-bone steak. Not one person said their food wasn't good. I had the frozen margarita which was excellent, too. Food came out hot and looked fresh, and even a bathroom break revealed everything to be clean in there as well. When it came time for dessert the utensils were included and tools for cutting the cake - a nice touch. No one complained or brought up that we were approaching closing time, which left everyone comfortable and full. Our waiter took everyone's order and actually got it right - and actually knew the menu and could make knowledgeable suggestions. Even taking tabs was done properly - mine was the last and correct. I'd be remiss if I didn't say a lot of this goes to great service from JENNIFER. I ordered a steak chimichanga and it came only moments after my server returned with the complimentary chips and salsa. The frijoles and rice seemed freshly prepared and the sour cream, guacamole, and pico were the perfect amount for my meal. The chimichanga itself was well fried and had a decent amount of skirt steak. The steak was over close to well done but still pretty tender. I think my one complaint would be that service was not that great. No greeting, no warmth.
