Almost passed on this based on location and cafeteria appearance from the outside. Hungry and chanced it. Parking lot was pretty crowded for a reason. Good choice for a hungry diner: Margarita hit the spot. The table side guacamole was beyond good. Piled high with ingredients and perfect. Had the barbacoa tacos, and it was served with generous condiments. Pico de gallo was as good as the guacamole. The taco was generously stuffed and gave that mouthful of chewy texture that begged more and more. Looking around, it was easy to see that this place is a favorite spot for the locals. Great little mexican restaurant conveniently located a mile from the hotels right off interstate I 65. After driving all day it was nice to have this option within walking distance of the Hampton Inn. Although not a great walking option, no sidewalks and a small two lane road. Drive took 2 minutes. We were greeted at the door, friendly, quick service and good food. We tried a variety of dishes with a menu option of choosing 3 different things for one price. The tamale was good, hubby loved the mushrooms, and i really liked the shredded chicken taco. Nothing was super spicy, chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. I really don't know why There are no reviews from local folks unless those folks would love to keep Parrilla Local to themselves. There were several local contractors and business people dining after 1:00 for lunch. The location is easy to get to from the exit. Don't be put back by it's location next to a power substation. It is a clean, tasteful but simple place. The Chili relleno poblano was wonderful. The pepper was so tender and the flavor profile was perfect. The street tacos are on spot as well. Great find on the way back from the beach. Will definitely be back in the future. We had 7 in our party. The Elote Loco was delicious. The Chile Relleno was so good and creamy. Several people had the street tacos- shrimp and pastor were both great. Tamales were some of the best I've had. Vegetable fajitas were a hit. Chicken nachos were well liked. We ended it with Bananas Foster made at the table - a great show that tasted yummy. The plate was so clean at the end. Also had the churros- the kids finished it off as well. Saw this new restrarant in Hope Hull when I was in Montgomery AL. Menu looked great so decided to drive the 7 miles. It is located in the old post office which had the Southern Comgort restrarant before. I did a pick 4. Burrito enchilada chili rellano and tamale was selected to sample several items. All the food was great. Tamale was excellent because the pork and Mesa were proportioned right. Had horchata to drink and they don't charge on refills. I ordered the Bananas foster for desert. We went to the Alabama Safari park and wanted to get some good food after so luckily not too many miles down the road was this gem. I knew it being across from the fedex facility and next to a power station... just a clean looking but very unassuming place, it was going to be FIRE. The hole in the wall places usually are. I got a horchata (delicious but huge, maybe share with someone) and elote to start. Holy moly that elote was so damn good. We got the small table side guac and it was PERFECT. Our server was friendly and efficient and I asked him his opinion on their street tacos. I opted to get the lengua, pastor and the one that was a mix of chorizo and asada. Let me tell you these were the best street tacos I've had in a long long time. Homemade tortillas, multiple fixings served on the side to dress your tacos to your liking. I'm in love with this place. The chips were light and crispy not overly salted and not greasy at all! The salsa was perfectly flav ored. I had the beef enchilada supreme with rice and beans. The enchiladas were topped with red enchilada sauce and fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. The rice was light and tasty and refried beans creamy and smooth. My husband had the Burrito Loco with chicken and large well seasoned shrimp along with rice, beans, and grilled onions and bell peppers topped with melted Mexican cheese and rice and beans as sides.
