From my last experience being here, this place has such dated inventory. Fells like something you would buy 20 + years ago. HORRIBLE SERVICE! I ordered online for contactless pickup. I checked in online saying I'm here and they didn't even acknowledge it. I had to call and give my name and order number. The guy came out with the wrong item and said he would be right back. I waited for another 5 mins and went inside. They asked me for my name again and they couldn't find it. 10 mins later he came out saying that the order was lost and that he was finding it. Worst. Location. Ever. Picked up the mylar ballon bouquet I ordered (in store) but the huge main statement one was deflated. Asked for a new one but they said it was fine, not defective and would refill. I explained that I was leaving very early the next morning to drive to Connecticut and the ballon bouquet was very important part of our (covid drive by) celebration. He "guaranteed" the balloon was not defective. Hmmmm ok- not sure how you could "know" that it wasn't but of course in 2hrs it had dropped about 30% of the helium while the others were still full. I called and they told me I needed to come back. I explained that I lived a distance and didn't want a refund, I wanted/needed the balloons and was unable to drive back there before they closed. So the only other option was for me to return for a refund. If I had wanted the $20 in my pocket instead of the balloons, why would I go there 3x?? (Once to order, again to pick up and now I have to return them.) I was told I could return after my trip, but I needed to bring the balloons. I suspected I would not get my refund since they clearly stated 48 hr guarantee. So I drove back AGAIN to south Plainfield after seeing online they're open til 9. I got there at 8:20pm and saw a bunch of workers inside but the door was locked. New hrs printed on the door said they were open til 8. I knocked on the door and was ignored. I was standing out there knocking for 10 min before someone was forced to acknowledge that I was standing there with a big dead balloon. They got the owner or manager (?) who refused to give me a new balloon because the store was closed. Said thru the glass "too late". I realize they were closed and and all it would have taken was an ounce of kindness to actually give me a solution to the "guarantee" promised by a cashier that handed me a dying balloon as if it were appropriate to sell. No one had offered hours earlier to deliver even tho that is a service party city offers. So their "guarantee" is garbage. They should have guaranteed it when it was dead just after inflating. No quality control, no customer focus and certainly zero kindness offered by management. Left there feeling angry and more deflated than the balloon. Luckily there was a dollar tree store right across the way. I bought 22 balloons in place of the 5 from this party city that didn't last a few hrs. read more

This location is far better than the Woodbridge location. It's very clean and also well organized. I came here to see about graduation party favors and I was pleased with the things I was able to find. The staff was very helpful and was able to assist me with everything I needed. The only thing I would say is that it's a bit pricey. You would be able to get just about the same thing at a Hobby Lobby or Michael's. read more

Not only is this the worst Party City I've ever been to, but probably the worst business in general. Seriously, just go to the further one. Unless you want to get home and find a deflated balloon. AVOID THIS PLACE AND ITS HORRIBLE STAFF. I would rather go to any store or drive to Watchung than ever step foot in this place again after how I was treated by their staff. I placed an order for birthday balloons (50+). and other items costing $300+. Thought everything was fine until I called the day prior to check my pick up time. 1st they couldn't find my order because apparently my name was not written down on the order form even though I witnessed the cashier write my info down. 2nd they tell me I was never charged for inflation... so apparently they take orders, don't check them, and if a customer shows up they have to be inconvenienced and stand there to wait because of their mistake? Why not check and call me so I can fix it and save us all the trouble? Then I give me credit card over the phone once they opened (30+ minutes prior to pick up) and when I go to get my order I'm told (by a "sales lead") it's not done and that it's my fault I didn't give the payment earlier, I don't know what to tell you and I can do it "if you want". Obviously mad I now ask for a manager (Hari) who does not once apologize, tells me I didn't give the payment, and then yells at me in front of my son and laughs at me while refunding me for balloons I was now canceling. DISGUSTING. If I would have received a simple apology for their honest mistake instead of being told "it's my fault" the second I walk in, the situation could have been avoided but their staff would rather talk down to their customers and drive away business. read more

Their curbside pickup due to covid-19 is awful. Customer service on this had atleast 9 people waiting ahead .With everyone outside parked. And the phone line would hang up automatically even if it's just one caller on the line.I had called them earlier to prior for an order pickup. i guess the owner of the store told me to call back within 20 mins after the stores curbside pickup was "opened." to answer a question. and was left on a endless hangup call from them, It's not professional & needless to say if they had another way of doing this they mideast we'll just let an amount of shoppers come in it wouldn't make any sense. read more

I will never go to this Party city again! The manager was rude! I ordered Halloween outfits online for my kids and a part of my order was missing but I was still charged for it. I went in to exchange one of the costumes that didn't fit my 3 year old and he hesitated on whether he would honor my return! It was never worn!!! WOO party time! It's not as big as some I have been to but it has all the normal party stuff that you'd be looking for. During Halloween time it was pretty organized, they had a line where you picked up things you wanted to try on and someone getting down the numbers. It's been then everyone trying to run into the dressing rooms at once. Balloons, cards, decorations, all that normal stuff. I've never encountered any problems with staff but I also never really needed any help looking for things. read more

The women in charge was SO rude. I brought a balloon in that I ordered online for 10 dollars for them to blow up with their air. The employee blew up the balloon to hard that it popped in the end. I asked if I can get another balloon that did not even have to be ten dollars and the employee called the manager or women in charge who was a red head, don't remember her name, but she was so incredibly rude. She would not give me a refund when it was their fault they popped the balloon. How hard is it to blow up any other balloon that you usually sell for a dollar? Over the course of 2 months, I have been coming to your store to purchase items related to my spouses 50th Birthday, 8/4/18 (Saturday). A complaint; dissatisfied service. I asked that my three bouquet of balloons 20 red, 16 gold purchased at party city; then a two piece 5 and 0 (which I purchased elsewhere) to be blown up by 4:30pm for pickup. The order was not filled in the requested time, I was told by a store associate that there was a defect in the gold 0 balloon, which when I arrived it was floating, but not full helium. I asked to be reimbursed for at least the purchase on the helium price; which I was automatically declined. Because I was almost last getting to my destination, I purchased an additional gold balloon of the 5 and 0 from your store, now spending over 80.00. The Associate, Divya was asked to provide a reimbursement on at least one of the helium balloons, which I spent 7.99 each. She was unwilling to make any adjustment, the same with the young associate Alyssa; after speaking with these two individuals, I asked to speak with a Manager, Vira and was told the same there would not be a reimbursement of anything. I purchased two new balloons from Party City which I spent another $23.00 on a 5 and 0, birthday card. I asked the Associate Divya to return the gold balloons to me with the defect. I was extremely disappointed in the unappreciated service as a customer. A customer spending close to 100.00 with the intent of purchasing more items, not only was I frustrated at the unappreciated service, but the mere fact the balloons were not even blown up when I got there around 4:45. I didn't leave your store until at 5pm. Poor customer service, when you unwilling to accommodate a customer willing to spend at your store. read more

In an effort to continue the tradition of excellence in my family business, We often use Party City, South Plainfield, NJ to purchase items. On Sunday, August 30 my niece went to this location to purchase & pickup balloons for a baby reveal. As many times before, she entered and inspected the balloons. To her surprise the balloons were not the color she specified and asked that the order be corrected. When told she had to take the incorrect product, she called my sister (her mother). While talking to her mother explaining the issue, her mother overheard the manager state "you either take what we have or leave the store, you won't be getting a refund". My niece, sister, family & country has seen too much unjust treatment of children of color. With that said my sister headed for the store. Not to cause a scene or trouble but to support & protect her daughter and more clearly understand the issue with the order from the manager. Instead of receiving courteous service to match her equally courteous inquiry, she was met with hostile treatment. This is truly unacceptable. And my family, friends and colleagues will no longer support this location. read more

If I could give this Party City less than 1 star I would. Tried to return a Blue door curtain, but was told the package had been opened and was unable to be resold. I had originally bought 2 and only needed the one, so wanted to return it. Package was not opened by me, but an extremely rude man and woman working there insisted that a product like that could not have been sold as there were creases where the plastic opening was. I admit that it does look like the product was opened, however when I insisted that it was not opened by me and could have been by another customer browsing in the store, the employees became nasty. It is not my fault that one of their employees made an error and sold a product that does not comply with the "manager's" standards. Came in on Sunday to get some decorations for my son's birthday. I was overwhelmed by how nice the staff was. They were really just all great, happy, helpful, and enthusiastic. I've been to the one in Arlington, VA where their so rude, so I was pleasantly surprised to go here.
