Absolutely LOVE Pierre's Costumes/Planet Santa. Jennifer is the most amazing General Manager I have ever worked with. I have been a Santa Claus ambassador for 26 years- Which is normal for men who are Santa Ambassadors... However I am a female. Its VERY VERY hard to find the fit and function that not only conceals the fact that I am a woman, but also gives me the look and confidence to portray the man in the red suit perfectly. Their quality and craftmanship is unsurpassed. I own the classic and traditional suits from these nice folks and just purchased a coat. I will be back again and again. SUCH a cool place! I stopped in with a friend just to browse around and break up a rainy walk home. Their selection is unparalleled, but that's what you get when the storage warehouse spans a full city block. I just wish we could have walked through it all, because seeing it without having access to it is just so very tantalizing. Pierre's is primarily a rental, so they don't have very much for sale. They have really good prices, especially compared to other costume stores. We even managed to find a sale basket with some $5 costumes (and you better believe we took advantage of it!). Since we weren't looking for anything in particular I can't say how helpful or unhelpful the staff was, but they seemed knowledgeable and they were definitely friendly folks. What's that? You've waited until the last minute and you still don't have a costume for Halloween? I can hardly judge. I was in the same boat until Wednesday, and the only reason I'm giving you all a heads-up about Pierre's is because I've got my awesome costume safely hanging on my closet door. I arrived on a Wednesday evening and the store was surprisingly quiet considering Halloween was just a week away. After chatting with my consultant (I cannot remember her name but she was so sweet and helpful), I met the owner, Rich, and we got to talking. The next thing you know, we were exchanging business cards and I was getting a full tour of the warehouse. Oh yes, the warehouse. What you see when you step into Pierre's is like a drop in the bucket compared to what's going on "in the back." I'm talking rows of clothing from floor to very-tall ceiling. No costume request is too obscure. Back at the dressing rooms, I tried on a handful of costumes but I knew I hadn't found the one. My consultant went back to the warehouse for a bit and when she came back, she had something totally unique. With her help, I zipped, snapped and secured myself into the perfect Halloween costume for Yelp's Night By The Nile (shameless plug!). Pro tip: Pierre's is open until 8pm in the days leading up to Halloween. Do yourself a favor and go on a weeknight, if possible, because the weekends are bound to be totally cray. read more

One must always be prepared for that unexpected fancy-dress party, and Pierre's has everything you need to keep your costume supplies running high. In addition to a full array of hand-made, theatre-quality rental costumes -- they are particularly strong on elaborate Renaissance, Medieval and Colonial gowns and get-ups and creepy oversized mascot heads and furry suits -- Pierre's sells simpler ensembles, a variety of wigs and a full range of Ben Nye professional theatrical makeup. I visited today to pick up some zombie-fying cream makeup and fake blood, but quickly became intrigued by the costume selection. Though an ingeniously constructed mesh-and-sequin mermaid thing did nothing for me, a perfectly ripped and distressed French colonial two-piece gown and pettitcoat -- just decayed enough to make a thrilling Zombie Marie Antoinette -- was a Halloween nightmare come true. Since I decided to rent the costume before October, I paid the three-day rental price ($95 + tax for a very fancy costume) and get to keep the costume a full week! If you love Halloween, then you're robbing yourself of amazingness if you're passing this place up. It's a huge warehouse in old city that's stuffed to the brim with amazing costumes. A lot of them are hand sewn, in-house! I can't vouch for any of the costumes, because I was there specifically for the ben nye theatrical makeup. They have a ton! Stage blood, Thick Blood, Minty Blood- lots of blood. Tooth enamels, different powders and color wheels. It's fantastic. They also have a lot of fangs for those vampire loving bandwagon jumpers. The employees were super helpful as well, suggesting colors and such so I can attain my zombie look. I even started playing with the color wheel I got on the bus and looked like someone had mangled my hand, it was pretty awesome. read more

I love this place, and I always feel good spending my money at Pierre's instead of some pop-up Halloween Adventure store. They have an amazingly large selection of zombie and theatrical make-up including fresh scab and tooth rot products from Ben Nye, which really got me a lot of compliments this Halloween season. Went in last night w/my girlfriend to rent a Halloween costume. Admittedly, I was very skeptical as I've never done this before but put faith into my girlfriend and gave it a shot. We met with Jessica who took a really consultative approach to everything. Asking what we were looking to do, measuring us and finally heading out to the warehouse (yes, they have a city block long warehouse of costumes) to grab some ideas. What she came back with was awesome. After trying the costume on, the rest of the patrons in the store were extremely impressed, and I was even more so. She made some great suggestions to pull the costume together and told me she would make sure to add a few details to keep it as real as possible. Overall, it was a really fun experience and I would highly recommend not only Pierre's for your costume needs, but Jessica as well. She was fun to work with and made the costume look perfect. I have been here several times for costume makeup. The selection and quality of products is quite good. The staff has been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and I have had positive interactions with several different staff people. There were tester products available, so I could get a sense of what I was buying and select an appropriate product. Furthermore, the staff people were happy to offer recommendations and describe some of the differences between the products, and how different products might interact. I also used their online contact form with a question the other day, and the turnaround on their response was very fast and informative. Went into Pierre's Costumes one week before a Halloween party. From the moment we walked in I knew I was going to be taken care of. Our costume expert took our measurements and went into the giant warehouse to come back with our request of Game of Thrones-esque period costumes. We loved them! Another thing I would like to point out is that I was with my 7 year old daughter. The employees took her downstairs and played with her the whole time while we figured out our costumes. True, the prices are a little daunting, but the costumes, accessories, variety, and knowledge and friendliness of the staff are impressive. I like to go in with nothing really mind and start sifting through various eras/looks/themes, Within minutes, I've always found something. The staff are totally amenable to taking measurements and going in the back and bringing out a bunch of similar stuff to whatever you're looking for. I came in looking for some Ben Nye makeup for a costume I'm working on. Better to see things in person than order things online, at the mercy of your monitor color calibration, right? I got in, was asked right away if I needed help, said no (I wanted to take a look around first). So both the sales associates working went to help another customer, and not wanting to interrupt, I waited and looked at the makeup--for half an hour, until someone finally came by to check on me. The associate who then helped me with the makeup couldn't answer all my questions, but it wouldn't have mattered much if she could, because they were out of stock on the first few products she showed me. I could try them in tester form, but not buy them, and there was no offer to order any for me. Maybe they don't do that, I don't know, but it would've been nice. Instead, I got sold the closest shade in a different style that won't actually work for what I needed, which I realized once I got outside and saw what the tester-spots were doing in the sunlight and warm weather. So I went back. It's absolutely my own oblivious fault for not seeing the 'all sales final' signs in the shop (it's not on the receipt anywhere, is why I went back), but it would've been nice if I'd gotten a better customer service response than basically a shrug. Act sympathetic, say 'I'm sorry but for health reasons we can't do returns on makeup,' SOMETHING. The return policy is what it is, and that's fine; I used to work retail, so I understand that. But if you don't act like you care about your customers' business, they'll pick up on that and you'll lose them. As for me, I'll be ordering one of the out-of-stock products from a store online instead, and never coming back here. There's always other stores. read more

I went into this store a couple of years ago after hearing a few stories of this store's reputation in the city. The reputation holds true because it serves the upper end of theatrical productions in our community. Which is to say, the major part of their costuming is very expensive. If you're looking for costumes under $200, this probably isn't what you're looking for. However, I purchased a colonial tri-corner hat that has garnered a lot of attention making the $25 I paid for it made it money well spent. I tried to have a custom piece made for a feature film. I was given an appointment in December, but when I arrived nobody knew I was coming in. I was seen anyway by Bobby who took my measurements, but told me they were too busy to begin work on it until January and asked me to come back then. I told them that was fine. When I made another appointment in January I was told that the owner had to approve my order and after a deposit was placed they would make the piece. I didn't understand why I had to be approved, but agreed. I was then told I would be called within 3 days. I told Bobby I needed the piece in early March and was told "no problem". As more than a week has passed with no call from Bobby, I assume Pierres is not interested in the hundreds of dollars in business I wanted to give them. I waited for 2 months. That's enough. I'll never go back or recommend them to anyone. read more

Very poor service levels and unreasonable policies. For the overpriced costumes you are renting, you would expect better. When renting a costume, they wanted to charge me extra because I live out of the US. Due to the timing of my event I would only be able to return the costume at 5:35 or 5 minutes after they closed. I called before to ask if it would be possible to wait the extra 5 minutes, but was told by the manager that she was the only one who could close the store and she did not want to stay longer. I asked if an associate could just wait for 5 minutes outside that I might give the costume. I was told in a much more rude way no. All of this headache for a $100+ rental for one day! Wish I had known beforehand. Not worth it. read more

Purchased a masquerade ball mask from them. Tried on the mask for the first time a week after purchase and the strap broke. Called the store about a getting a replacement strap and was told by the employee and manager that they will not replace any broken item. The manager told me she would give me a ribbon to replace the broken strap and of course charge me for it. Then she hung up on me when I tried to explain that the item was defective when i purchased it and they could easily give me the strap from one of the other masks since they did not have extra replacement straps on hand. Almost every other good company will replace a defective item within a such a short time frame. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Extremely rude and poor customer service. Also, I walked around there store and looked at several of their costumes. Most were dirty and falling apart. *** I have the receipt dated 5/5/2015, the mask cost $7.95 BTW. The mask was purchased for the masquerade ball at the Eastern State Penitentiary on 5/15/2015. I did not wear the mask until recently and noticed the strap was broken. All I wanted was a replacement strap. I am not going to get in a tit for tat on who was bullying or who hung up on who. Clearly I was trying to take advantage of your employees and store by getting extra straps for a $7.95 mask - I would have been so rich with one more strap! I am glad that they admit they sell cheap and defective items and that they have an ALL SALES ARE FINAL POLICY. Beware of what you buy from this place. You would be better off going to Party City, D & J Costumes, Halloween Adventures or any other place except this one. Yes, I posted your competitors because I feel you deserve to lose customers for treating me so poorly and thinking you could get away with that type of service with no repercussions. Rude, unprofessional, very poor customer service, and no return policy or a return policy that suits them, not you. I posted this so future buyers can be aware of their practices.
