The quality of care in my experience is not consistent. The first time I had a dental cleaning it was lovely and the hygienist took their time, was thorough and gentle, and overall wonderful. The second time I went in, they were delayed starting as no one was at the front desk and then I proceeded to have the worst dental care experience. The hygienist spent time fiddling with the music and volume, cited the wrong side of the mouth they were about to clean (it was a deep cleaning so divided into two sessions) and had to correct them. They were actively hurting me and grabbing the side of my cheek several times throughout the process. I asked them to pause several times during the cleaning. At the initial numbing injection, I had never felt pain like that during a dental procedure and when I flinches, they just gripped my cheek harder and pushed the needle quicker. As this was my second cleaning with them, it was a total 180 degree experience to the one I had the first time with a different hygienist. This cleaning was also done far quicker than the first one. In retrospect, I should have left before the procedure started when the hygienist was indicating they were not prepared. I have empathy that everyone has a bad day, but when it involves medical care, it is different when physical harm and emotional harm is being done. I spoke to the receptionist after when I was in shock and they were very empathetic but said this hygienist had been with them a long time and was rated positively. I emailed the company through their website later and never received a response. When they texted me later to schedule a follow up appointment I expressed that I was not going to continue as I had such a horrible experience. They apologized and said they would not schedule me with the same hygienist. I was disappointed the company did not reach out to me after my email regarding my experience. read more

I am SO lucky to have found Dr. Molayem. As someone who did not get dental care as a child, I went in with very little understanding of what my dental health was or what I needed and was frankly scared. From my first step into the office for my consultation to my latest checkup and cleaning, every person Dr. Molayem has on staff, and Dr. Molayem herself, cares about their patients. I'd gone in because I had been having awful pain in my face and was scared I needed some kind of root canal "or something". Within minutes, Dr. Molayem told me I had TMJ. At this point I had been experiencing a whole host of issues (facial pain, tingling, migraines, neck pain, tinnitus, etc) and had been to a GP, optometrist and ENT, making no progress along the way. As soon as she explained to me what I was experiencing, I felt so foolish! The pain was totally coming from the area she said. The recommendation she had was to do Invisalign, to relieve crowding in my teeth and lessen pressure I was feeling. The quote was over 4k, but after 2 years of near constant pain and debilitating symptoms, I charged it to my HSA and hoped I'd see some improvements. A year later, I can tell you that the cost, cleanings, fittings, adjustments, and follow ups have been worth it. The aligners mostly only caused minor discomfort and the results were obvious even before my alignment was complete. I'm wearing retainers now, still working down to the minimum time needed to keep my alignment in check, but my symptoms have reduced significantly, by at least 80%. This dental office is an absolute disaster, and today's experience reminded me exactly why I haven't been back in years. After arriving early for my appointment, completing lengthy online paperwork, and uploading my insurance details, I was blindsided at the front desk. I was told that I "should know" I'd need to pay out-of-pocket for X-rays before any service--this was never communicated to me. I made it crystal clear multiple times that I was there for a teeth cleaning ONLY, but my concerns were completely ignored. To make matters worse, no one bothered to inform me beforehand that I needed to bring my 2024 X-rays from another dental office. If someone had just said this, I would have easily arranged to have them sent over. Instead, the receptionist offered no solution, no apology, and not even a hint of courtesy--just a blank stare and a dismissive attitude. I took time off work for this appointment, only to have my entire morning wasted. I ultimately canceled my appointment because the service, from start to finish, was unprofessional and downright disrespectful. If this is how they treat patients from the moment they walk in, I can't imagine the quality of care they actually provide. I have been to a lot of dentist and none compare to Dr. Molayem; she is not only an outstanding dentist who I feel completely at ease with, but she is one of the most positive thinking and genuinely kindest people I've ever met. At the front desk you will most likely be greeted by Marisa; she is focused, patient and always willing to go above and beyond to answer questions and meet the patient's needs. With just her presence, you will feel most comfortable while waiting to be seen by the doctor. There's also another person at the front desk, I believe her name begins with the letter 'M' as well - I have spoken with her on the phone a few times; she, like the rest of the staff, is very knowledgeable, and conscientious. Way overdue review. Service was so bad I felt it was necessary to warn others. This place has questionable ethics. They upsell and are rude if you don't go along with it. They are also terrible at their jobs. I came to this place for my annual, back when they were located on Claremont. Dr Molayem said I needed to get a "deep cleaning" which cost much more than a regular cleaning. I have annual checks and cleanings and no other dentist had ever told me I needed a deep cleaning. When I went in with the hygienist, Tenny Belderian, and told her I would just be getting the standard cleaning, she turned into a horribly rude person. She was snappy and cold and proceeded to give me the worst dental cleaning of my life. She rushed through it, was super sloppy, and kept hurting my gums with her aggressiveness. She only spent about 15 minutes on me and the following day my gums were red and swollen. Don't waste your time here. read more

We love Dr. Molayem!! I'm confused at some of the negative reviews listed because my wife and I have had nothing but the best care from "Dr. Mo" and her terrific staff. Shawn, my hygienist is so meticulous and caring, even has some great jazz playing in the background during my X-rays and cleanings. Dr. Mo is always circling back to check the X-rays and the progress on my treatment plan. She is such a calm and pleasant woman and obviously skilled. The office staff is super kind and accommodating. Ana and Marcia (staff calls her Marcie) along with Shawn and Dr. Mo have become like family. Our experience with billing has been straightforward. They also offer nitrous oxide which is why I chose the office when we moved to Pasadena. I have been a patient of Dr Molayem for almost 8 years. I have had nothing less than extraordinary care in these past years. I have had a great experience with implants (a total of three) and crowns (a total of five). I've had a bridge done as well, which I, personally, decided to upgrade to an implant and crown. My dental work has been complex, and I have never felt taken advantage of. In fact, quite the opposite. Dr Molayem has been conservative in my treatments. Marcie has worked with me to ensure that the treatment was within my budget. This has been especially important since I do not have insurance. I have paid out of pocket all these years. The office has grown with the addition of a couple of new hygienists. I work with Shaun who is extremely detail oriented. I have recommended this office to many and would frankly not go anywhere else. It took me time to find someone I trust. Dr Molayem is the most kind and ethical woman I have had the privilege to know. As I sat at the office, I noticed some negative reviews which I found disheartening and unfair. I noticed someone referring to services received over three years ago, as well as an another making reference that the services had taken place a long time ago. This is no longer appropriate in my opinion. It most seems cruel , but I csnnot assihn motivr to someone. So many positive changes have been made since then. Dr. Cho, who was a good periodontist, but lacked bedside manner, is no longer there. He was replaced by Dr. Maher who is absolutely amazing! She is kind, professional, gentle, and caring. I also noticed mention of Tenny. Tenny left more than 3.5 years ago after going through some challenging times as well. We need to ask ourselves what people are living before we make a judgement. Owning a business is not easy. But, as someone who has been working with this office for about eight years, I can say that they care, they really do. Dr. Molayem wants nothing but the best for her patients. They are very busy and even so, they take the necessary time with each patient. The worst dental experience I have ever had. They are overpriced, billing makes lots of mistakes, and they are HIGHLY incompetent. Because of Dr. Moyalem, I had to go to an after hours emergency dental office. I first went in for a dental cleaning where they convinced me that I needed a more expensive in depth cleaning. I fully regret agreeing to this since it was no different from a regular cleaning. Dr. Moyalem also did some work on my teeth, including tightening a loose dental implant. She drilled a hole in the implant to be able to do so. Almost immediately after returning home, I had severe dental pain and my gums were swollen. I called the office and Molayem saw me again that same day. There was already an accumulation of pus where she tightened the implant! She admitted I had an infection but didn't do anything to help and said I needed to return a few weeks later and see the implant specialist. She was clearly not qualified to be handling implants. I was NOT about to wait weeks to see the specialist when in a matter of hours I had already developed a serious infection. I couldn't believe how unethically and irresponsibly my case was treated. I ended up having to find an emergency dentist that same night. The ER dentist struggled to remove the implant, cleaned it and prescribed me some antibiotics. After I healed, he reinserted the implant properly and I had no more issues. Thanks to Molayem, this ended up costing me 2K! I wish that were it but on top of all of this, they kept trying to bill me extra charges, which I had to constantly call and demand that they fix. My advice is to steer clear from this place! UPDATE: Dr. Molayem and her office contacted me, trying to get me to take down my review. She also claims on here that the infection was done by another office. The original implant was placed at another office years ago with no issues, but the infection developed right after Dr. Molayem drilled into it and tightened it. Wow, just wow. The lack of ethics and accountability has reached a new low. Dr. Molayem-- please never contact me again and just be grateful I didn't press charges. read more

For some reason, there have been several instances when Dr. Molayem simply didn't show up for my bi-annual routine exam while still billing my insurance for a complete check-up. This has happened to my spouse in her office as well. We get our cleaning, get our x-rays and are then told the doctor is not in the office, will review the x-rays at her convenience and get in contact if there are any problems. Reviewing the x-rays (if she actually does it) is only a fraction of the complete exam. She should be checking the surface of our teeth (grinding, for instance, was always mentioned in an attempt to sell me an insanely expensive night guard); gums as well as checking the overall health of your mouth. This office has questionable billing and sales practices. I'd avoid them - or at least be sure the dentist actually shows up for your exam. read more

This place was fantastic. They sent me an email link where I filled out my intake forms the night before (very user friendly). I did wait in the lobby for 15min but they were very observant of that and updated me before I even had to ask (delay: patient in front of me was a talker). The facility was clean and welcoming. It's an old home converted into an office. Dental hygienist was very helpful, accommodating, and informative. The Dentist (Niloufar Molayem) was no different. I told them right up front that I was moving to another part of the state and was only there to get a check up/cleaning so I would not be returning. This did not seen to matter to them because they made me feel like a long time customer, offered to recommend a dentist in my new area and pass on their dental findings to my new dentist. I wish I would have found then years ago, bummer I'm moving. After such a great expierience, I now know why people write overly long reviews. read more

WOW, I think I know why this place is called the Pasadena Smile Center...they make you smile after a trip here! I came in because of the Groupon deal a while back for a Sapphire In-Office teeth-whitening treatment for only $89 (a $500 value)...and I'm glad I purchased the deal! I like that the offices are open at 7am on certain days so I can drop by before work and that they have their own parking lot...definitely a plus in my book! The procedure was painless, the staff explained the Sapphire procedure very well and was very thorough in making sure that I was comfortable with my first teeth whitening experience. They also showed a informative video clip before the treatment to ensure that I knew what was going on. During the procedure, Dr. Molayem also turned on a SNL DVD for me to watch so I wasn't bored during the hour procedure. They also checked up on me every 15 minutes to make sure I was feeling okay and everything was fine. After the treatment, the color of my teeth went up about 8 shades to B2 or B3?...very nice! She also recommended me to change my crowns so the shade of my teeth would match up and another staff member notified me that I could go on a payment plan (without interest...very nice for this recent college grad!). I have been having a difficult time finding a dentist who is a good fit for me (meaning I feel comfortable and trust them). I was happy when I found the Smile Center because it's very close to my work. I had a cleaning, a night guard made, and then a deep cleaning. Most of the staff was extremely kind and sweet. Dr. You was wonderful, very sweet. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was also nice, but the procedure was extremely painful. She was very receptive and communicative and I really appreciated that, but I felt really uneasy after I left. There were issues with getting my billing confused, which I had to get involved with- which was frustrating... But overall, I can't say anything bad about this place, I just never felt like we clicked. I always felt a little off. After the billing issue was clarified I decided not to return. I have been looking for a trustworthy dentist for a while. I wouldn't have guessed that Groupon would've led me to her! She is very nice, does good work, and I feel has been honest with me. I had not gone to the dentist in many years until I got dental insurance from my job. I went to a dentist in Alhambra under my insurance. That dentist forcefully told me I needed 22 Preventative Resin Restorations amounting to over $2000. Suspicious, I looked them up on Yelp and saw they received one star from every reviewer.. I went to Dr. Molayem for a second opinion (without telling her about the previous experience). She told me I only needed 12 small cavities filled. She did a great job patching me up and I will keep on going to her for my regular check ups. read more

I was able to schedule an appointment within the month at a time that was convenient for me. I went here for a surgery consult with Dr Cho to see about the pinhole procedure. Not only did they charge me $138 because my insurance didn't cover the consult (which honestly seems illegal since it was just a consultation) but also the dr talked to me like I was 2 years old. He was condescending and lectured me for 15 minutes on my brushing then sent me home. I would not recommend this place, there are way better options. I'm not even sure what he told me about my gums is true so now I need a second opinion. I regret going at all. read more

I had bought a Groupon for X rays and cleaning for Pasadena Smile Center, and when I called them to make an appointment, they were "completely booked more than 3 weeks out." I booked the earliest available appointment. It was nice that all their forms can be done online before the appointment. That way, when I got to the office to sign in, I didn't have to fill out any forms there. I got to the appointment on time and was brought inside within 10 minutes. The hygienist saw that I was pregnant so we ended up not doing X rays but just took pictures from my mouth instead. The dentist then came in to check my gums and started her cleaning. She kept going on about how I really needed a deep cleaning since my gums seemed to be receding a lot. She probably only cleaned for 10 minutes. I thought she would've took a little more time on the cleaning. After that, the hygienist came back in to finish up with the polishing. The receptionist then came in to talk about pricing for the deep cleaning. $700 something for the deep cleaning! She even told me that she'd be able to book my deep cleaning right away because she'd be able to rearrange the schedule to fit me in right away. (That's funny, I don't know why they couldn't do that when I originally booked my appointment for regular cleaning.) In and out for this cleaning in less than 30 minutes. I wouldn't come back for the deep cleaning though. This dentist office just seemed more into up-selling their services. read more
