    The ambiance is wonderful. I highly suggest attending a night on Friday or Saturday for live music. The food was perfect, true to Philippines cuisine. Service is like family, the staff made sure we felt welcomed.

    The Filipino flavors in this restaurant are totally on point. Fun atmosphere with a stage, drum set, microphones and speakers. Friday and Saturdays they have band and karaoke going, which is very inviting and fun. Going back to the food it was all freshly prepared. We came there on a late Saturday Sunday afternoon. They close at five when we were there at 2:30 and so it was just the owner of Joe who was running the restaurant by himself but all the food came out delicious hot fresh and prepared super friendly owner really inviting atmosphere . I'm sure if there's more employees you would have no rock busier atmosphere but we were happy with our experience here. Would highly recommend and definitely plan on going back especially a Friday or Saturday or we can hear the live music and maybe do some karaoke.

    Decided to finally check out this place kind of hidden inside a food hall after Mikey Chen of Strictly Dumpling stopped by for gis Houston YouTube vlog. Thenfood hall is labeled International Food Court on the outside, but it's mainly a filipino corner of food in a largely vietnamese shopping strip. We were very happy to taste homestyle filipino meals full of flavor. Top favorite was the sizzling spicy pork sisig served with steamed white rice. Next was the pork tocino sislog served with garlic fried rice and eggs that would make a great breakfast dish any time of the day. We also had the special palabok noodles, but we definitely preferred the rice entrees. Our food was made to order, but they also have a mini buffet available if you want a quick 2 entree plate for only 8 bucks. Check out our photos for more of their offerings!

    This place is really tucked away but I'm glad I found it. Stop by the international food hall. I came late on a Monday afternoon on a whim and this was the only place open in the food hall. I asked the really nice lady at the front counter for a recommendation and she suggested I get the pork Sisig. Not a dish I had ever heard of before, but after a little research I found out it's a sour pork dish. It came out sizzling hot and smelled amazing. I ate it with a plate of white rice. The dish itself consists of crispy pork cooked with onions and lots of oil. It's got a little kick, a little sour, and lots of great meaty flavor. I'm a fan. This isn't a health good to be sure, but it was delicious. 9/10. The lady at the front very nicely also brought out a cup of chicken soup. It was very much like a broth and very very hearty. Also a 10/10. The international hall itself was interesting. I'm sure it gets busy on the weekends but on a Monday I only saw one other guest in the time I was there and this was the only restaurant open. With tip the total bill ended up being in the ~$20 range. I wouldn't call it super pricy but not a value meal either (at least what I got). I would totally come back. This is an interesting spot.

My BMP calamansi margarita was distinct in its tanginess. Tried the veggie lumpias and brussel sprouts. The lumpias had tangy dipping sauce that might have been dominated by calamansi. More tang than savory. The brussel sprouts were standard but had a good portion. I tried to detect whether they used fish sauce but I couldn't tell. Ordered the daing na bangus (milkfish) as my entree. They gave me the whole fish and it threw me off that it was mostly deboned since I kept looking for the bones with my tongue and teeth. Fish was nice and crispy and the dipping sauce was more savory than what came with the lumpias. The garlic rice that came with the dish was smoky from that wok hay. Probably could have used a little more soy sauce for flavouring. My favourite dish was the turon dessert (fried bananas) along with the ube ice cream. The coconut sauce they used seemed more like caramel. I haven't eaten much Filipino food so I wasn't sure how authentic the dishes were. I was expecting a little more intensity in the flavours, and I don't know if it was toned down for their customers. There were around ten customers that night. The inside was beautiful and they have a two level patio that is perfect for nights like these. The service was very nice and the kitchen was faster than I expected.

Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.

Pork belly replaced with enoki mushrooms or octopus, and the dish was still amazing. My sister was unfortunately gluten free, but still able to enjoy every bite. Because of the location, you get the experience of sitting with the chef and his team and that alongside them in almost in the kitchen. It's very cozy and different, and you learn a lot about each dish because of it (and his amazing team). I love Musaafer, but this may have become my new favorite high end place.

You could tell they weren't just serving food but also they were part of the storytelling. This experience deserves every bit of praise. If you're looking for something beyond the usual dining. Truly unforgettable. I'll be talking about this night for a long time.

Solid, but not something I'd rush back for. The real star was the whole fried red snapper. I loved that I actually got to pick the fish myself from the display up front, which already sets the tone for freshness. It came out perfectly breaded and fried to a crisp, with great crunch on the outside while the fish inside stayed tender and flavorful. It was served with a side of rice and a fish sauce with Thai chilies that really elevated the whole dish--salty, spicy, and just what it needed to cut through the richness. Because of that, this latest visit to TJ's wasn't perfect and honestly made us wonder if it's still worth making this one our go-to spot whenever we're in the Houston area.
