I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place is just not worth it!! I spent $6 on a tiny teacup, not sure if it would even equate to 16oz. They DO NOT have wifi! What coffee shop does not have wifi?! Lastly, when I asked the barista for the wifi, he was so incredibly rude. As if I asked him a preposterous question! Fantastic find in the heart of Lancaster. Wonderful artisanal, eclectic variety of coffees served up in a quaint nook, with modern furnishings and vibe, off of King St. The coffee is fantastically prepared and presented. Staff is super friendly. Perfect to duck in for a quiet sip in the morning or on the go. And equal amount of sweets and snacks are also offered to pair with your coffee. My one gripe has to do with the serving of yogurt they sell. The organic Greek yogurt, though high quality, is store bought and the single-serve plastic container they stock is itself placed onto a platter. This is the best new coffee I've had in a long time. While on a recent trip to Lancaster, we came across Passenger while having lunch at the Prince Street Cafe. Their Golden Needles China Yunnan tea was on the menu, and it was so good we wanted to track down more of it. What we didn't realize was that they also roasted coffee. In addition to a bag of the Golden Noodles, we left their Cafe on King Street with a bag of their Stowaway blend, which they also gave us a free cup of for buying a bag (something I'd never seen a cafe do before). I have to say I was amazed by the flavor. It had a depth of flavor that I'd only had in pour overs, but this was drip. It was such a good cup of coffee. On top of that, the cafe was spacious and clean, smart and basic. If I lived in Lancaster, I would probably be here all the time. read more

I have moved from the Lancaster area to Montclair, NJ and PASSENGER COFFEE is literally something I think about every single week. I miss the clean, yet welcoming aesthetic. I miss the creative and uplifting tea blend/drinks they offer. I miss their biscuits with seasonal jams a lot, too. This is the best coffee shop in the country. It's a cool, damp late summer morning; a great morning for coffee. And yet I hesitate. I'll be going to market shortly, but do I want coffee? Yes. Do I love Passenger Coffee? Yes. But do I want to go into the shop right next to market? No. Why? The weird, forced banter that ALL of the baristas engage in. It's a Friday, but that won't stop them from asking how my weekend was (a full 5 days ago). Or what I'll be up to later today... or any number of odd and forced questions. It's borderline creepy. I'm no coffee snob, so I probably shouldn't comment on the quality of my beverage. But I'm going to anyway. It was a totally fine, slightly above average tasting latte. What bothered me about the whole experience though is that there was no WiFi. It's 2018...what coffee shop doesn't have WiFi? I guess internet access might interfere with the minimalist hipster vibe they have going on, but it will certainly keep me from going back again. Coffee was amazing. I had the poured coffee. 5+ stars for that! The only reason I'm giving four stars is because of the following: seating is very limited. Also the pastries were very hard! I think they could be good pastries, once you got through the first layer of hardness they were well made. I think the reason could be the open pastry case. It looks cool but if that were sealed they might stay fresh. Not saying this to bash the place, as it has amazing potential. I will definitely return for the coffee, it was outstanding. Just had this amazing espresso served on a wooden board with seltzer water. I can't pronounce the name but it was awesome, "Fazenda Sertao". The cool thing was the espresso was free with bag of coffee purchase. The house-made croissant was light and flakey and dense in the center, quite excellent. The Barista was kind and informative despite my lack of espresso knowledge! I love the minimal atmosphere of this establishment and the simplicity of the menu to highlight the product and not cover it up. read more

I LOVE the simplicity of the menu, the quality of the coffee, and the bright, cheerful atmosphere. This has become my favorite coffee spot within a 100 mile radius. I also love that there is no Wifi, which stays true to the simple, organized feel of the place. The only downside is the lack of evening hours (open until 4) so generally the only time I'm able to get coffee there is on weekends. Overall though, this is a fantastic coffee shop, and my new favorite. read more

Listen, the ambiance is incredibly pleasing and it's of great use to take nice pictures of your coffee, but that's honestly about it. Amongst 90% of my friends there is a general consensus that this is the most acidic and worst tasting coffee we have EVER had. Truly, like coffee flavored urine. Whether I am in Prince Street cafe or Tomato Pie, this coffee always creeps up on me and makes my overall experience significantly worse. If you are not going to fix the pH levels in your coffee, at least keep it to yourselves and in your own stores. I beg of you. Keep Passenger Coffee in Passenger Coffee, or delete it completely. We were looking for a good cafe in Lancaster for a morning coffee stop. A relaxing, cozy environment with a good morning pastry selection and good coffee. DEFINITELY NOT here or ever again. NO seating to speak of. Very cold (meaning sterile, bleak) environment. This is definitely not a cafe or a coffee shop. Not sure what it really is. NO pastries to speak of. Or food whatsoever. I had a glorified Pop Tart. As for the coffee? Eh...nothing special about it. Supposed to best coffee in the state? Not even close. Try Cafe Chocolate in Lititz. Absolutely the best coffee we've ever tasted in any state! And it took them FOREVER! to make a Cafe Mocha and a Cafe Latte at Passenger. My pastry was long gone before the coffee was done. I find the coffee to be good and the staff friendly. I also enjoy buying a bag of coffee here to to brew at home. Sometimes, if I feel like it, I will ask the baristas questions, and they talk to me. I find the space clean, and the service good. I enjoy the water. I wish the espresso came with a little sweet biscuit or small cookie, (like the size of a quarter) It would take it to the next level for me. But they do offer treats. Its nice there. After walking around downtown Lancaster a little, my wife and I stopped by Passengers to take a load off, as well as to grab a beverage and cool off a little bit. The decor is sparse - lots of blank white space on the walls, save for the block-lettered menu at the front - and white tiling to match. There's a decent amount of seating at tables and at countertops lining the windows (which is where we sat), making it a very comfortable and casual place to park yourself for a little while. While the pastries on display did look good, we were still full from breakfast and stuck with coffee and tea, which were duly served after only a few minutes despite decent traffic at the register. I went with an iced chai, which I enjoyed quite a bit - not overly sweetened like you would find at something a bit more mass-marketed (e.g. Starbucks), but also not too strong on the cinnamon either...overall a very nice balance. My wife went with an iced tea, which is hard to screw up in any context, but I did enjoy the oolong version she was served - although it didn't have the same complexity as you would find in hot tea, it was very earthy. I do remember the lady at the register mentioning that this wasn't just iced tea from the bag; there was some additional preparation to it - which is maybe why it stood out a bit more. While this is certainly convenient to spots like the Central Market and Queen Street / downtown Lancaster generally speaking, Passengers is certainly worth a stop, whether for a shot of caffeine in the morning or to relax at for a while. This is an amazing coffee shop in a gorgeous physical space right smack dab in the heart of Lancaster. The coffee is as good as any major national "3rd-wave" roaster. The biscuit with butter and jam is an incredible snack while you sip your coffee. They always have the NYTimes on hand, and usually the local LNP too. My only complaint is a quibble: no free or reduced price refills. Oh well, the coffee is so good it's worth buying a second. read more

Pretentious. The tea is brewed for you not allowing you to brew to suit your own taste. The presentation is lovely, however the tea cup has no handle so the hot cup needs to be held with a sleeve or paper napkin. The sugar is across the room and you are to carry the little tea cup with no handle or trips carting the shaker is annoying. All in all annoying AF. read more

I walked up King Street looking for a coffee spot, Passenger was the first I came to. Just walking by I didn't recognize what it was until I asked someone if there was any coffee in the area. As I passed through the door I was greeted with a cold, sterile, and stark atmosphere, it didn't even smell like coffee or baked goods. The only comfort was the uplifting jazz music on the sound system. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is the coffee is nice and mellow and the biscuit was delicious. But no WiFi (they get a pass on that because they are new) . I've been to coffee shops from Boston, to Miami, to Texas, to San Diego, to Seattle and I have only run into a handful (barely) of shops that don't offer WiFi. read more

I'm not really sure how I feel about this place, it's pretty trendy so use your imagination of the style of beverages you're going to see. Mostly basic simple recipes, things you would see in a normal coffee shop that's not a starshmucks. But my visit here today was less than perfect. I feel I can't give any less than a 3 star because the staff was friendly and nice and the people I came in with seemed to enjoy the baked goods they purchased. I also feel I can't give it more than a three star, because the coffee itself was the problem. This was one if the most acidic cups of coffee I've had probably ever had, to the point it almost made it unpalatable. Although the coffee was tasty, this particular place is just not my style. There wasn't any sugar available for the coffee (I always like to make my cup slightly sweet), and the seating was limited and looked rather uncomfortable. It was a very open space, which some people probably like- but the minimalist vibe was a bit too sparse for my liking. I like shops that have a bit more of a homey feel to them, and this didn't quite fit that.
