My husband and i were given such a hard time other the Post Office and wasted two weeks for no reason due to an incompetent worker there. Needless to say, our process was swift and easy here. We made an appointment 12 hours in advanced, and was in and out within less than 15 minutes for our son's first time passport application. We are now eagerly waiting for his booklet to arrive home, hoping for a smooth sailing process from here on out until our trip to Belize next month! Prices are higher, but totally worth it. Update since my last visit here back in 2019! The UCI Passport Office is a passport acceptance facility recognized by the US Dept. of State agency. The UCI Passport Office has since moved from it's location in a trailer over at UCI's North Campus - which is now occupied by the new UCI hospital. The new address is 101 Academy, Suite 120. Parking is upfront, and is free. They are open the 2nd Saturday of each month - which was when I stopped by this morning. I made an appointment via their website - just make sure you're using the right link - one link took me to a calendar for November 2022. I just needed to get my passport renewed, but still wanted to get my passport photo done - and you can get that service done here for $20. Lena was super helpful and helped me make sure I completed the scary-looking DS-82 form correctly, and advised me to drop it off at the post office. They only handle the DS-11 form here (application for passport for the first time). The execution fees range from $20 (passport photo only) to full service at $56. That fee is separate from what you pay to the US Dept. of State ($130 to $220, depending on if you want book/card/both and expedited or regular service). The execution fee can be seen as sorta the servicing fee for utilizing this office (which makes sense, considering rent here isn't cheap). Remember - you need either a check or money order for the US Dept. of State payment. You can use your credit/debit card to pay for the execution/service fee. Two separate payments. Really cannot say enough great things about the convenience/service of this passport office at UCI. Even though Lena ultimately sent me off to the post office to mail in my DS-82 renewal form, I was able to pay for my passport photo here, and utilize her expertise to review my application form to make sure I filled everything correctly, and wrote out my check properly. There are definitely more than a few places you can apply for a passport at - like the post office - but if you've ever dealt with most post office passport people - they seem like they hate their job. There are also other sketchy for-profit passport businesses that unnecessarily charge a bunch of money for their help. NONE of that nonsense here. The service fees are fair, the employees are friendly, clean lobby and restrooms upfront. Totally recommend! read more

The best passport experience I've ever had- oh my, so much better than the post office! Clean, runs on time, with plenty of seating. We came in with our newborn (had a prior appointment- they had plenty of availability)- and were in and out in 15 minutes! And that included taking a photo, which they had perfect expertise on given that it's not easy to take perfect newborn photos that meet the picture requirements (eg they had white blankets for the background, agent had suggestions of how to place her in the car seat given that she can not hold her neck yet). I see all the great reviews, but if you have a later appointment they are more rude than a DMV employee that was called into work on their day off. The blonde lady that smiles while she talks was extremely rude and the guy wasn't much better. For the extra price you pay to use the service, I would expect better customer service as that is literally your job. And $20 for a small picture is outrageous. Definitely do not recommend this place and would suggest going to AAA instead. read more

I had to renew my passport and was told about the passport office at UCI which was close to me. It's located on the UCI campus but on the outskirts so there is ample parking. They are usually only open during the weekday but they are open every second Saturday of the month. You can walk in but there might be a wait and it's really easy to make an appointment online. They only handle the DS-11 form which helps with both applying for a passport and renewing a passport. If you need, they also help with passport photos ($15). You can either print out the form online or pick one up from the office. One thing is that you'll need a physical check to pay for the service for the passport. You'll also need to pay UCI separately but you can use a credit card for that. The standard delivery is 6-8 weeks but my new passport arrived in 2.5 weeks which was a pleasant surprise. This was a very quick, easy, and smooth process. It's a small office but they have everything you need for your passport needs. read more

5 years have passed already (!!), so needed to get my children's passports renewed again. Once again, an exceptional experience at the UCI passport office. They moved locations to a newer building closer to UCI (goodbye portables!). It's super easy to make online appointments via their website. Not sure if they take walk-ins. You'll still need everything I listed before (and adding a few more details): 1. Child's birth certificate 2. ID's/Driver's Licenses for BOTH parents 3. BOTH parents must be present 4. Child renewing/needing passport must be present 5. Passport photo (they offer photo services there - still $15) 6. Blank checks (bring multiple or entire checkbook just in case) - you need a check filled out to the federal agency, and another one to UC regents 7. Passport application - you can do it there, but it'll be faster if you fill it out ahead of time at home 8. Social security number of the passport applicant (it's a required field in the passport application Service was fast and friendly. Everyone is so nice and patient here! read more

I booked my appointment online for my passport renewal. But it was my fault that I showed up on the wrong day. The gentleman who helped me was very professional, knowledgeable, patient and kind. Literally took us less than 15 minutes and that includes taking photos. We had a 5 PM appointment. Showed up with our applications filled, original/copy of our birth certificate and of course CDL. When applying for a passport, the common instinct is to go to USPS. However, after some research on Google ,I was surprised to find that UCI offers passport services. I simply walked in to an office building on campus, which had a waiting area with two rows of chairs and three service desks. I waited for about five minutes before a gentleman called me over. He carefully reviewed my completed application form. Since I travel frequently, I applied for a passport with more pages, and to make travel easier within the United States, I also requested a citizenship card, as carrying a thick passport can be inconvenient. The young man was friendly and asked me where I planned to go after getting my passport. I mentioned Japan and Taiwan, and he smiled, saying the food there is delicious. He also mentioned that if I traveled to Israel, I wouldn't be able to visit some Middle Eastern countries like Iran, as they do not accept Israeli visas. He suggested that if I have the need, I could apply for two U.S. passports, which is permissible. The process was quick; after signing everything, writing two checks,and taking a photo, it was all done in about 20 minutes--very efficient! Additionally, it's worth mentioning that this isn't conducted while standing at a USPS counter; I completed everything while sitting in a chair, which greatly enhanced my overall experience! Love how convenient this place was! I was looking for a passport office to process my application and was so happy to find an office so close to my house. I went in on a Saturday morning (appointment required) as they are open on the first Saturday of every month. The process was seamless and the passport agent was very helpful and nice. I came with photocopies of my necessary identification and passport photo, but they offer both photocopy and passport photo services for an additional fee (separate from the passport application fee). Updating my review based on their new location (moved after Thanksgiving, I think) & ease of ordering a passport for my baby girl. Plenty of parking in the new location and it was easy to make an appointment using their website. If you don't have an appointment but want to walk-in, I suggest you call before heading in because it can get busy! Sal/Saul was great to work with - he helped take our baby girl's passport photo and process all our paperwork quickly. Don't forget to bring a check! I suggest you bring a blank one - there was a customer in there with a pre-filled out check but he had written in the wrong amount. Not much else to say .. Did a walk-in to apply for a passport for my newborn baby and the process was just as quick and efficient as my first experience here 8 years ago and the person assisting was very friendly and informative. We were able to have my baby's passport photo taken here as well - they placed a white blanket on the floor to for baby lie on. Came here on a Wednesday afternoon and there was no wait.
