You can find this one-of-a-kind, two story store in the Coventry neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. It well reflects the neighborhood's eclectic culture. This store is a great destination for your esoteric needs, global unique gifts, and your obscure hobbies. INVENTORY: The store offers fair and direct trade merchandise. I have a suspicion that a lot of City Buddha merchandise is now sold here due to seeing similar finds. City Buddha used to be a shop on the same street with treasures directly from Thailand. Both a treasure. As far as countries of origin, there are many at this location. There are plenty inspirations from the East - Buddha statues, Indian gods, and incense. There is African merchandise - Ghanaian necklaces, waist beads, and masks. There are Russian-inspired hats and Mexican blankets. Then there's everything in between. As far as variety, you can find clothing, shoes (Birkenstock), decor, walking sticks, jewelry, accessories, statues, instruments like djembe, and more. If yoga or meditation are your passions, you'll find so much here - crystals, incense, sage, tapestries, blankets, statues for your altar, and more. Pricing greatly varies. Some of the items are higher prices like $70 straw purses. Other merchandise is deeply discounted like alpaca gloves or seasonal items like waist beads. I was very happy to find $5 waist beads and added a necklace for $12 something. They were fair trade items from Ghana. Great value! SERVICE: The owner is very nice and helpful. He makes everyone feel seen and welcome. I always feel comfortable asking questions. You can also get a free quartz crystal with your purchase which is very nice. He truly seems like someone who finds deep meaning in what he does. PARKING: Limited street parking is available in the area. There is a covered parking garage across the street with free parking. I was welcomed when I entered this unique store. Despite offering a wide variety of goods I wasn't overwhelmed or felt crowded. Instead I was at ease and took my time perusing the jewelry and clothing for my loved ones. It was made in Nepal, Peru, India, and other exotic places. I know I can't find these hand-made items anywhere else in Cleveland and was ecstatic with my purchases and experience. This is an oasis for quality one-of-a-kind art that you can wear!!! read more

I love visiting places that offer this sort of collection. Passport to Peru is one of my favorite local shops to visit. I have gotten countless pieces of gemstones and pieces of jewelry. Most recently, I got my first vegan leather bag. Reading the past reviews with low ratings, the one that speaks about this being a greedy for profit business, has never been my experience. Lol, in fact, there has been a time when I was going to buy quite of few things, and Ann, told me I didn't need to buy anything because I had the wisdom in me. Awesome place if you into crystals, incense, obscure books, Alpaca socks, really nice looking line of shoes and boots, blankets, etc, This shop has a lot packed into it. Luckily the staff was extremely helpful and O found what I was looking for and more. Went in to buy a Moonstone crystal and $45 later. I could have spent a whole lot more. This shop has a very unique vibe, but has a nice selection of items. I most enjoyed their variety of incenses. There has to be over 20 options of smells. Don't be fooled. They just want your money. Bought an item with cash and tried to return it 12 hours later. They refused to give me back my money and gave me store credit. I even had the receipt. It's amazing how much more money I would continue to spend with them if they weren't so greedy and gave me an actual REFUND. Management and owner (Anne) also did not care in the slightest. "It's on the receipt and BTW you have to crane your head up at the ceiling to see the sign (which you won't do). Also every other business does it on this street so it's okay." Because I read the receipt before I buy something...? I mean, do you? Not very transparent. And also personally I've never had a store not return my money within 12 hours! So shady. I'd recommend... stay away. To top it off, the store's owner, Anne, told me, smugly, to "call the police." Definitely not a business I want to support when they tell their repeat customers that. Another kicker, I work in customer service for a large tech company based in San Francisco. The owner needs to invest some time in learning how to service customers properly and professionally. I used to really enjoy visiting this store, the clothing & home decor was like nothing you could find near my home. But over the years I've noticed a trend...the I'll never bring in any new merchandise trend. When there's nothing new to bring customers in then it's not worth the hour trip. The last time I visited here was roughly 3 yrs ago but apparently nothing has changed in that time period. And their prices... seriously! There's a similar store in Ravenna called the Tinker Box that offers very similar types of clothing for more than half the cost & beautiful jewelery. Not sure why the hating on this place? This is not your normal store nor is this a normal neighborhood. I went to 106 Dead shows, so this place and area is perfectly normal to me. The owner was very helpful and wonderful! Wifey wanted stuff for an upcoming concert and the owner provided tons of help and advice. Is she going to jump right in and help? Of course not, because this is the kind of store one needs to explore first. And then ask for help. Another reviewer questioned the authenticity of the turquoise and I am baffled. Maybe they don't know that the color of it has a pretty wide range, based on the copper to aluminum ratio? This stuff is genuine for sure. read more

An indie store with top quality merchandise. The owners are almost always there. Don't miss the merchandise on the 2nd it's easy not to notice. The place has a very comfortable aura. clothes, incense, jewelry, oils and exotic things. Many other things to do while on Coventry with other shops and many eateries and a pub or two. Street parking, parking lots and a few feet away a parking garage. They've done a great job of hanging in during hard times and that may account for merchandise changes. This is a small and tight store full of artisanal, international inspired crafts, wares, clothing, and accessories. I felt welcomed by a friendly staff member. I thought they had a lot of neat items, ranging from candles to jewelry, to footwear. Like City Buddha I was surprised and a little disappointed that they did not have utensils, more teaware and products like lamps, room dividers, etc. That makes this place less complete than some other similar stores I have visited. read more

I LOVE this store. I'm from Chicago and staying in Cleveland for a few months, I walked into the store and immediately fell in love with the clothes. They have a huge selection of colorful feminine dresses- think Free People for 1/4 the price! The first time in here I bought three dresses, I came back for a fourth the next day and the owner pulled one from the back for me that wasn't even on display yet. By far my favorite crystal store in Cleveland. The staff is so kind and remembers my friends and I whenever we come in. I drive 30 minutes out of my way to go there at least once a week. What happened?! Passport to Peru used to be a non-negotiable stop for me when passing through Coventry. I've bought jewelry and shoes here and generally had a positive experience that kept me coming back. I can agree with the other reviews that this place has gone downhill... just look at the awning out front, the letters are falling off so it's obvious that it isn't being maintained like it used to be. Huge markup on items and it's obvious to see if you know what you're looking for and rude staff doesn't even make it worth window shopping. Hard pass on this place from now on. read more

I have been coming here for over 20 years and I always find something special for a fair price. They carry real silver and gemstone jewelry, the price depends on the size and the stone. I usually get something in the $18-35 range which fits my price point. They have a variety of incense and burners! They also have lots of tapestries on the second floor! Visited the store for the first time in Coventry. I walked in and was greeted but I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes before anyone helped me. All of the crystals were behind the counter.. which is fine.. I'm the type to want to feel a crystal and try and discover it's healing properties. So once I was helped and asked if I could see some of the crystals the man and woman scoffed because I could not point a specific one out I wanted to see (because I base my decision on touch and feel). They mocked me and made me feel less than because I couldn't tell them what I wanted and on top of that the prices on the crystals were outrageous. I will NOT be returning. Horrible energy and vibes. Passport to Peru has the most beautiful selection of semi-precious jewelry that I have ever seen! I'm always on the lookout for bold, chunky rings where the stone is the star, and Passport has an excellent collection of stunning stones set in a various sizes. I even found the perfect ring for my husband, who, like myself, is picky about jewelry. Ann was most helpful in explaining the qualities of each stone, and carefully polished and labeled my purchases for me. 3 is the magick number,I've interacted with a woman I assume is the manager 3 times, at first I thought " well maybe she is tired and just having a bad day" so I ignored it. The second time I went in she went as far as to insult my view point directly. Yesterday I went in with a friend an ended up buying jewelry and I asked a question I knew wasn't exactly logical about selenite as a jewelry piece,but I asked bc perhaps they had casing to protect the stone while worn....the young man I asked scoffed and looked discussed by my question,making me feel less than for asking and I could feel the managers dirty looks from across the counter. However I believe in being kind in the face of those that are rude so I complimented her necklace and her response was the snootiest,most pretentious response i have ever heard from someone who claims to teach spiritual classes,her energy was cold even in the presence of warmth,save your money for another metaphysical store friends. read more

I used to love this store but the newer owners make me feel differently about it. There are many jewelry options to look at and on my last visit the woman working seemed exasperated that I didn't just grab anything and buy it. I won't be going back! It makes me quite sad how this place has changed. As a native to the Heights area I have passed through this store many times over the course of 20 plus years. I had a small sign this place was going down the tubes when I visited last fall looking for moccasins and after spending 20 minutes in the store not one person asked to help me. Then I stopped in there today to look for summer tops and was taken a back when I looked up from combing through a rack to see the store clerk (presumably the owner)glaring at me through the opposite side of the rack. It got creeper when he moved in closer to the inside aisle where I stood and continued to stare me down with his arms folded. I'm not sure if if I was being racially profiled or not. It's near impossible to prove something like that. What I do know is I will be sure to tell everyone I meet to not shop there. read more

I've been shopping in Passport to Peru for over twenty years. I've bought at least twenty pair of Birkenstocks there. Today was the most horrific experiences I've ever had. While in the back trying on Birkenstocks, deciding which pair I wanted, a security guard posing as a bum came back and sat. In fact he informed the sales person that he didn't have any money but was interested in a pair of $160.00 shoes (yea right)! I decided upon the red ones. I took the box of shoes and proceeded toward a clothes rack when I was approached by a different sales person saying "I'll take the Birkenstocks to the counter while you continue shopping". I gave her the shoes and told he that I wasn't trying to steal the shoes. I continued shopping and took my items to the counter. An older woman behind the counter said " what's wrong, you seem to want to say something". I then explained to her what had happened. She basically denied that it could have happened. Our voices escalated and she told me that I'd harassed her staff and that she didn't need my business! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'm not sure what the sales person told her but I only said "I'm not trying to steal the shoes". Well, my dollars spend at other places. And, I'm sort of sad that I will never set foot in that store again. I will also tell anyone that asks my opinion of Passport to Peru how shabby they have become! read more
