This restaurant is right off of I-35 and is a "slice of Iowa". My family and I stop here for breakfast on a regular basis. The staff is friendly and efficient. Expect a full breakfast and they keep the coffee coming. This is a great example of rural Iowa and wholesome food and service. read more

I am thankful for the recommendation from a fellow downtown Clear Lake staffer, as Sevens proved to be a quality place to eat with kind customer service and a vast menu. I enjoyed their burger with all the trimmings, and it was delicious! Loved their fries. Everything was perfectly cooked--good-sized portions. My Better Half enjoyed her Reuben sandwich. Our server was kind and friendly. The interior was clean, and the restroom was spotless. Dad and I were recently on Clear Lake as part of a Father-Son road trip. The nice folks at the Surf Ballroom recommended Sevens Restaurant for Lunch and mentioned that it was "old school" Clear Lake. Judging by the subdued lighting, dark woods, and local themed pictures on the wall, they were right. There's actually 2 "rooms" to this place: the Restaurant and the Sports Bar, both with interchangeable offerings. After an easy downtown parking experience (maybe because it's off season?), we wandered in and were immediately seated in a nice big roomy booth. As I was driving, I skipped the beer and chose lemonade in addition to the day's special - hot beef sandwich. Dad had another lunch special consisting of moderate portions of soup, salad, and a half sandwich. We both enjoyed our orders, although my choice was a little heavier than I was normally used to. Dad's selections had a little more variety and color balance. Sevens is a neigborhood joynt that I could get used to if I lived here. There was much more on the menu than what I chose and the prices (usually ending in 7) were crazy reasonable. Our wait guy was also great. read more

We were traveling north to Canada and stopped for lunch on our way through. The food was fantastic, friendly and fast service and the price is was very reasonable. I ordered the classic cheeseburger and fries and my husband had the Reuben. Both were excellent. And the town itself was just adorable. You can drive right up to the lake! read more

We were passing through and needed a place for lunch. This was perfect. There lunch special was the best. Cup of soup, side salad and half sandwich for $8+. Exactly what my husband wanted. Unfortunately, they were out of the chicken wild rice soup (his fav) but he still got it with the chili. I chose the Greek goddess salad. Fresh strawberries, kalamata olives, spinach, feta cheese, cucumbers, and shaved pecans. It had a ton of stuff on it. So many olives. Yummmm. It came with a bread stick which was awesome. REALLY busy on Sunday mornings but the food is worth the wait. I had the biscuit and gravy eggs benedict. My rating is good only because we had to wait 45 minutes for our order. I only found out that was the expected wait time after 40 minutes, I asked my server if our order would be coming anytime soon - and that's when she told us, Oh, the wait is 45 minutes. Would have been nice to know that up front. Otherwise, any other day/time - be sure to stop in. read more

Service could've been better, was given lukewarm coffee, while we waited a few min for 2 others; and once the rest of our party arrived, the server felt it more important to bus tables, instead taking our orders. Nobody was waiting, so the need to bus empty tables in lieu of taking care of waiting guests seemed unnecessary. When food arrived nearly 40 min after arrival, it was decent. Bench seating was uncomfortable so I was ready to leave 1/2 way through meal to regain blood flow to my backside. Location is convenient. Been there multiple times and they tend to be hit and miss. Sometimes good food, sometimes not. Sometimes good service, sometimes not. Their kitchen is quite small and wait time for food can be excessive, especially when Rookies next door has a special going on, as they share the kitchen. Weekday breakfast is a deal ($3.97), but weekend breakfast is very expensive and always slow. Worth one visit and then make your decision to return or not. read more

Stopped here while passing thru and love these kind of small local bar/restaurants where you can expect consistency, good prices, local flavor, a friendly face and jovial banter. We had breakfast and the portion was generous. I think we both cleaned our plate anyway. I love all the nods to the area surrounding the bar and walls. I would recommend this as a great place to stop if you find yourself in the area. read more

Racist, Homophobic, and Unapologetic My friend and I had gone to Sevens for breakfast on September 1st. We had to listen to Manager Alison and the other server make racist comments and slurs about Mexicans while we received poor service. When it came time to pay, I told Alison I would pay for both of us; she went to run my card and we heard her say, "Lesbians don't get VIP service here." So we had received poor service based on a judgement. That behavior is unacceptable and nobody deserves to be treated poorly for who they are, which was a false judgment in the first place. My friend had called the Chamber to pass our horrible experience on to the owner of Sevens. He received her message and had Manager Alison Shannon call my friend back to what I assume was to say sorry. The best my friend got from Alison was a sarcastic, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Clearly, Alison Shannon doesn't regret being openly racist and homophobic, so she has probably acted this way before. If you go to Sevens while Alison Shannon is working and you don't fit her small-minded view of a good American, expect to receive poor service. read more

This restaurant is located in a lake town. Lake towns are most commonly frequented by tourists in the summer, and the biggest day of the year is quite obviously the 4th of July!! They had a hand written sign on their door saying they were closing at 8pm (ok fine), I show up at 6:45pm walk in to see multiple open tables. The hostess says "we are not seating any more tables for dinner." So they essentially closed at 6:45 on the busiest day of the year. Exceptionally stupid business decision, so I'm not interested in returning. read more

Nice spot for lunch in beautiful Clear Lake, I do believe they have two different menus for lunch and dinner. The wings here are very good, they have a great sauce and come in a decent size. Got them twice in the both times that I've been here. I tried the rueben which the corned beef was done right, not always a guarantee since I've had my fair share from many places. Also tried the raspberry chipotle turkey sandwich which was a nice touch to a traditional fav. The downtown and lake area are gorgeous if you are in town this is a good choice to grab a bite and enjoy the views. read more

Remember the wise adage, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? From the outside it looks like a dive bar but inside it is a sharp looking & updated restaurant that was converted from a bar. Complete with the high back booths and bar counter which we sat at. Excellent breakfast food that a few locals walking out called the "the best breakfast in town!" It proved to be true for us with your typical menu but fresh ingredients prepared extremely well. It doesn't hurt that outside of the lake vacation town they are surrounded by miles and miles of farms either. Favorites by far were the blueberry pancakes chock full of big fresh blueberries! The hashbrowns were excellent as well with a crispy on the outside. If you're a big breakfast fan go with the "A-train". It will not disappoint ;) Reasonable prices made it even better when we were ready to leave full and happy we found this great spot! read more

Airport recommended this little local place. Glad I took their advice! I had lunch for a reasonable 7.77- the lunch special of soup, salad, and half sandwich. Fresh salad followed by a savory tomato basil soup and italiano sandwich (pepperoni, ham, salami, ranch dressing, lettuce, provolone cheese) grilled to perfection. Service was fast and super friendly and the iced tea is freshly brewed. Just down from the lakefront where many of the interior photos that decorate the place are from. read more

Eggs were adequate, hashers a bit greasy, muffin meh and bloody adequate. Service: OMG! The young woman seemed annoyed that I was there. I had to ask for: chase for bloody, salt & pepper and jelly for the muffin. I am a slow eater, she never asked how things were but "Ya want a box?" She returned to silently drop my check. This brunette does NOT have a future in the service industry - DMV might be good for her? By contrast, her bubbly blonde co-worker left her in the dust. Upbeat, personable and energetic. Then 5 days before we were all going to go, they had called us and said, "I won't accommodate you" and also said, "I saw your reservation two weeks ago I just forgot to call back". Waited 15 minutes for a table which is to be expected on a Saturday night. Waited more than an hour for two steaks and a couple of kids corn dog meals. Pretty long for a family of 5. Ordered an app. Took 40 minutes to get. When I asked after 30 minutes I was approached by who I assume was a manager who was quite rude and made me aware of a 45 minute food wait. I was not informed of that when I came in. She told me that both the hostess and waitress had told me. I said that no they hadn't. And she argued with me and said they did. Very rude. Food was okay but not worth the wait. Her name was Aly. Had I known about that wait I would have left instantly and enjoyed a delicious meal at culvers by the hotel. Then didn't show up until it was time to pay the bill. The kid literally did all of her work still. She also gossiped with a customer for 5 minutes while holding my credit card. Like I told my waitress when she came by to check on my meal after I had had a few bites, "I am kind of of a steak snob, but I've gotta say, this is one fabulous steak." I grew up in Clear Lake, but left over 40 years ago, and have only been back a few times since. Tonight I decided I wasn't just going to grab a burger through some drive up window and hit the interstate south toward Des Moines, and beyond, I was going to relax, and enjoy a meal in the hometown of my childhood. After reviewing the options on Yelp, I chose Sevens. Despite major municipal infrastructure repair going on all along Main Street, the restaurant was very clean, had a nice ambient Pandora station playing, smelled great, and had good seating. The hostess and waitstaff were very courteous and professionally friendly. My beer and my food arrived in exactly the timeframe and order one would expect at a fine restaurant. Several reviewers were critical on Yelp of Sevens, as attempting to 'be something they were not,' but I would heartily disagree; there was no pretense at all, just excellent food paired with outstanding service. I asked for the 12-ounce ribeye cooked medium, and specially topped with grilled asparagus and hollandaise sauce. It was delicious. As good as any $80 steak I've had in major US cities. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, seasoned perfectly, and quite obviously cut from a very fine piece of beef. I am so glad I didn't settle for a burger basket at Culvers and a 32-ounce Coke for the road. Highly recommend this place when you're anywhere near Clear Lake, Iowa. read more
