It was, in a word, fantastic. First off-the service. The gentleman who attended our table was delightful. Patient in explaining the dishes, his favorites (which we ordered), and just a great sense of humor and kindness about him. Next, and importantly, the food was amazing. We had the Stonbass and the Turbot with potatoes and a mixed salad. Grilled to perfection, fresh as could be. The meal was so good. My partner had the lemon meringue (after the pastry chef suggested it). Light and lovely. It was a great meal. A great spot. A great staff. We could not have asked for more. Neither could you. Do it!

And veggie soup along with algarvian salad for me. Prices were very reasonable. And quality of food was fantastic. Service was impressive. The best part of our entire dining experience was the kind beautiful smile and expert service by the young woman with beautiful black braids. Her name may have been Erika (she's expecting also). What a gem of an employee and definitely an asset to this restaurant. All in all a great lunch at a traditional Sagres family restaurant!!

Yelp said it was…read moreclosed for another hour, but we drove by anyway, and as luck would have it, it was open. Very welcoming staff, and a great vibe from the interior as well a the outside seating. We initially sat outside, but the breeze kicked up so the lovely K asked to move inside. Of course, just grab a seat anywhere. We haven't had burgers since being in Europe, and two full weeks without a burger is just wrong. I ordered the Bird burger and K had the Retro burger as well as a side of fries which we shared. We were asked if medium on the meat was ok, and answered affirmatively. The fries were plentiful and the burgers pretty tall. My burger was very good although the patty was definitely a little under especially in the middle. K was not in top form, feeling not great all morning and hoped that food would help, it did not, so we'll reserve judgement on her burger. Patty done a bit more this is a 5 star review but medium is not medium rare, maybe even a little less than that. Servers are great, the restaurant is great the vibe is great. We wish we could try again, but time dictates that we cannot.

The host's recommendations were very solid. A good menu of "burgers," in quotes because mine was made of bacalhau--why don't places do this in the States?! Varied meats. Deep drinks list. Our consensus was that a place like this where we live would make money hand over fist and for good reason.

There were 3 other tables who had ordered before us who still hadn't received their food. Our server said they were very busy. As if the restaurant had never been busy before ever?? To walk into the left hand side after they have been cooking is to inhale the richest purest aroma of fish broth. A promising sign of things to come. We started with their appetizer plate (a ubiquitous element to Portuguese meals- offered without ordering, although not free) with tasty cheese, olives, bread, and anchovy paste. For the meal we had Sagres local beers, and the regional algarve specialty of clams in a butter-garlic sauce and then one of A Sagres' famous fish stews. This is a BIG pot of broth with rice at the bottom and many kinds of fish and prawn cooked with it. It is like a magnificent soup version of a paella. With just this starter, small entree, and big soup entree we were completely full. After the meal we took cafe espressos and a slice of almond orange cake. We were deeply satisfied, and the service, while not the fastest, was very friendly.

They have food combinations that are daring, out of the usual, but most importantly scrumptious. They serve fish caught fish, so the menu options change as to the fish; the night we were there they had fresh corvina, paired with lemon risotto, just lovely. We started with a carrot garnish/ purée, onto carrot bisque soup, mix green salad topped with sesame seeds and chickpeas, finishing with the corvina. Dessert was a muffin of sorts spilt in 2, the middle had strawberries & cream, while the top had been drizzled with brandy. Wine selection was good, local wines were well presented. If you're traveling thru Sagres it is a most stop. FYI - take cash, no credit cards accepted.

Ran by a long time Sommelier, definitely worth visiting when in the area. I ordered their deep fried octopus dish with a barley risotto, I was told the octopus was caught wild off the coast 10 minutes down the road. It melted in my mouth like butter, easily the best executed octopus I've ever enjoyed. Will definitely be going back as the rest of the menu grasped my attention they are always coming up with new ideas.
