This is a hidden gem! Great staff, friendly service, attentive care...great food! Everything is reasonably priced to where you can try a wide variety of menu items (which I highly recommend you do). I sampled their tequenos (a much better version of breaded cheese sticks), arepa, pastelitos, and cachapa. Everything was delicious and made fresh. Beware - your eyes may be bigger than your stomach, like me, and these items swell up! I so wish I could have eaten more because everything was delicious. read more

Lovely authentic Venezuelan cuisine! I tried the Criollo breakfast which came with beans, eggs, platanos, shredded beef and an arepa. It was super filling and very flavorful! My favorite was how savory the beef was. This is a very small, low key, mom and pop restaurant which I really enjoyed. Great customer service & my food was ready pretty fast :) read more

Came for a nice mother days breakfast and left for fathers day dinner time. Despite the food being decent and the staff are trying to be nice, the service delivery is verrrryyyy slow. Came here for breakfast. Been here for about 2 hours or longer waiting for our food and the kids patience is running low. The wait staff/kitchen needs training and the business seems to be chaotic. There's no structure. Our drink wasn't taken correctly and the water did not come out till we ask again 30 mins later. I asked for my food to come out separately since my pastelitos is my entree and other people are eating it as an appetizer. I reiterate this to the wait staff. It came all in a basket and I don't know which one is which. They also asked what I ordered and at this point im just really upset. It's already afternoon (1:15pm) food just barely starting to arrive...not coming here again.. Update. I saw a couple tables walk out due to the long wait for their food.. Another table was getting up and the manager rushed over and was able to persuade them to wait a little longer. I'm telling y'all, it's not just me. The restaurant cannot handle having a full house. Very very poor management. It's unfortunate. read more

I felt so at home here. No one told me this was a Christian restaurant!!! This is just what I needed on this Sunday morning. The music was refreshingly and surprising...made my soul glad while my body was well fed!! The plantains were perfectly cooked...softer on the inside with a slight crispness on the outside! I has the Criollo breakfast with no cheese, avocado instead. I had the Venezuelan coffee WITH almond milk! She gave me a free arepa to take home with me. The dough was cooked perfectly. Drove from Dallas to celebrate my 30th! Stumbled upon this delicious little cafe! Must have the pastelitos, they were absolutely amazing. Dear Yelpers, I am sending you all virtual hugs for reviewing this place at such a high level that you were persuasive enough to get my butt from downtown to this place just to see if y'all were telling the truth. You were!!! This place is a excellent!!! The service is on point and very attentive. We decided to try their most popular breakfast plate. It was good but for us not enough to make us drive this far HOWEVER the pastelitos are incredible as was the empanada and the tequeno. Y'all were right the green sauce is fire and takes everything up a notch. I can't wait to return to try everything else. You must try this place it's worth it!!! Also the hours are wrong on here so call the place instead if you are worried they will close soon. read more

Everything was so yummy here! The pastelitos w the guasacaca sauce were fresh and flavorful. We had the Caribbean beef and the platanos con queso. There's plenty of vegetarian options too -- the domino arepa was my favorite, but the cachapa was incredible as well. And the platanos..... wow. Beautiful and clean interior and friendly service. We will definitely be back when we visit Houston next time. read more

Came here years ago with my bf but my coworkers frequently buy Pastelitos from here, so on a whim, and a craving decided to come by to pick up some of their delicious treats while on a apartment hunting excursion. We ordered tequenos, carribean beef empanadas, and guava and cheese, As per usual they did not disappoint and that amazing green sauce is heaven in a cup! A little pricey but it's worth it and just the overall decor of the restaurant is so pretty! I love the touches of culture they show with their furniture and decorations! Their pastelitos have a way to my heart. I frequented often when I used to live in Houston for school. Their pastelitos are freshly made daily, packed with filling, and the accompanying sauce makes it even better. I am little sad that over the years prices have gone up and the sauce is extra charge... but I love supporting this local business and the staff there are so nice. I had the (ground) beef pastelito, which is a stuffed pastry. I also had the perfect Venezuelan coffee with cinnamon and a little sugar. I had the hot fresh chicken soup which had large pieces of chicken breast, a small corn on the cob, potato, served with chopped onions and cilantro. I also had the reina pepiada (avocado chicken salad) arepa to go. All were seasoned perfectly, not too spicy. I'm definitely going again and the prices are just right. I met the owner and his wife and they couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming. I loved the colorful paintings on the wall and the cozy but quiet atmosphere. Pleasant cafe with some notable pastries worth trying. However it takes 15 minutes to get an order in at the kitchen and several reminders that not all of your order has not arrived. The pancakes were served dry and were very unmemorable . This food is 20% more expensive than other competitive locations serving the same thing. Ambiance- pleasant. Such a disappointing visit toPastelitos this past Sunday around 1:15. I had visited this restaurant a few times before and enjoyed my meals but sad to say i will never be back after this one. Basically it was just poor service, one meal was served and 10 minutes later my wife's meal arrived and then we had to walk around to find silverware. not once did anyone come over to ask if our meal was ok. And it seemed if your 1st language is Spanish you get all the attention and everyone else good luck. read more

This place has been in my area for years and I've just tried it. I'm left wondering what took me so darn long. They have everything. Great breakfast and damn good coffee. Once you try the Venezuelan coffee, you won't want anything else from Starbucks. The Pastelitos are delicious along with the green salsa. The shredded beef arepas are full of flavor and moist. The first thing I tried was the capacha. It was different, and a big portion. I'll definitely be back. The staff is great. They already know your name once you're back a second time! read more

Visited for the first time about a year ago because my friend lives close by and it was delicious! At the time it was too far from where i lived or else I would have been here ever week, well now I have the pleasure of being less then 10 minutes away and made it a point to visit again yesterday and it did not disappoint. I got a Caribbean beef pastelito, which was filled with beef and veggies, a spinach and Alfredo pastelito, which was so yummy and creamy and a guava and cheese pastelito which was honestly my favorite because I'm a sucker for something sweet and the cheese adds a sweet and savory combo which made me have to come back for more. The inside of the restaurant is vibrant and welcoming. The staff is kind and helpful, the customer service is top notch, I had an issue with my order and I was immediately helped with a smile. The owners son even took the time to help which I very much appreciated. The prices are great considering the quality of the food. Love to know I'm supporting a family business as you can tell everyone there cares about the food they're making.This will be mine and my husbands new breakfast spot for sure. I was very confused because a couple walked in right after we were told they were closing and that couple was seated and started their ordering process. I think it all adds up to a communication issue due to language barrier, but it's going to be tough to go back after such a strange night of confusion. The decor is nice and it seems like it has potential, but they need to get that liquor license stat! A little tip: There is one bathroom downstairs. The hallway to the bathroom is very dark. The light switch inside the women's one person bathroom is upside down. I was a little out of sorts with how dark it was and then I had trouble turning on the light. Thought I would mention it to help others. One good thing, they do have nice toilet paper. I'm really trying to give this place some credit! After receiving a comment on my review from the owner, I have a couple of updates to address. We were not there to take advantage of a free drinking venue. My friend and I enjoy trying new restaurants, and this was on our list. The first turn off was not being able to get answers about the menu from our waitress. I understand there was an English barrier, but I don't understand how someone can be an order taker without having the ability to communicate the menu. We were offered three different times to eat, but in between those times we were told the restaurant was closing and due to the first issue, I wasn't sure what to eat. Lastly, I am a great tipper and my friend is an exceptional tipper. I almost always do 20% and my friend is more of a 25% tipper. I wasn't sure how to tip when there wasn't much service. Neither one of us had cash on us, and we discussed that fact, so if we would've had a bill that came after our MEAL, there would've definitely been a tip. Appreciating the time I took to write the review, does not warrant everything we experienced at your restaurant. I'm pleased to report that the food lives up to the name and most everything was quite sabroso and very Venezuelan. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside, but seating is really limited to solo diners and small groups. There are counter seats toward the back and small cafe tables in the front. There are some refrigerated items for grab and go while ordering is done at the counter. I'd recommend calling ahead of time for faster pickup. If you're able to order in Spanish, do it. The food gets a thumbs up. Much of the menu is Venezuelan specific which includes cachapas, arepas, tumbarachos, patacondes, and tequeños. While they have a "menú Mexicano" that features quesadillas, tacos, burritos, and tortas, I'd avoid it if at all possible. The arepas might appear to be smaller, but they're packed. I personally loved their jamón y queso guayanés, in which the latter is a thick slab of gooey cheese. A similar arepa is their mechada y queso guayanés, which is equally tasty and I appreciate that they have cazón (#1) as an option. The pelua (beef + cheese) and reina (shredded chicken with avocado) will be my perpetual favorites and the cachapas with tequeños are also particularly hearty. The food is a bit pricier than most Venezuelan fare I've had previously, foodflation never surprises me anymore. Now, Alfajores are these wonderful sandwich cookies that are especially popular in Argentina and Uruguay. They're unique because they're traditionally made with cornstarch rather than just flour, giving them that wonderfully tender texture. They're filled with dulce de leche and often coated in shredded coconut. Some are even perfumed with lemon zest, depending on the region. I knew immediately that I'd be getting some. I ordered the Gaucho and the Chicken Diablo. The service was cordial and sweet: big smiles and a genuinely warm demeanor. The young lady told me my order would be ready shortly. She gave me an exact number of minutes, but I honestly forgot how many she said! I then turned around and, lo and behold, it all clicked. It was called "Marini's" because of the owners. To my surprise, there was a painting of a face I recognized. Years ago, my family and I attended a church called Centro Familiar Cristiano. Marcelo Marini! He has the kind of face you don't forget--very recognizable and distinctive. I thought it was lovely to discover that he was one of the owners. I only wish I had known years ago that this was his family's business. I absolutely loved how the restaurant is decorated. The writing that guests have left on the walls gives the place so much heart and personality. I've never been to Argentina, but Marini's gives me the impression of being a little getaway...a small glimpse of what it might feel like to experience Argentine culture. The young lady who took my order brought everything out with another smile. The Gaucho was fabulous. It was well seasoned and I loved the added detail of the olives. The chicken was shredded, tender and well seasoned too. The crust was crispy without being greasy. I also really enjoyed the chimichurri and the red sauce, which had a pleasant little kick of heat. And the Alfajores were spot on: tender cookies, rich dulce de leche filling and that coating of coconut that gives them such a wonderful finishing touch. I really enjoyed my visit to Marini's. This spot is a hidden gem hiding in plain sight! The atmosphere is incredible from the moment you walk in--authentic culture surrounds you, from the charming dining setup to the music filling the space. The owner was warm and welcoming, personally greeting guests and even seating us himself. The staff was equally friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to offer great recommendations when asked. Our food was brought out by the kitchen staff and presented with genuine care. I went to pastelitos specifically for their Bircher muesli and I was not disappointed. They gave me a huge bowl of oats, milk, yogurt, honey, blueberries, and apples. It was so delicious that I ate the entire thing. The restaurant is a cute little place with friendly staff. The lady didn't speak English but the man did. I assumed it was her son. We went in for breakfast and as one other review commented it was exactly what you would expect. It is a modest place with great service - we only had eggs and toast but everything was cooked as we requested and the huevos rancheros and eggs benedict was very good and also the coffee as well. read more

The decor is nice and it seems like it has potential, but they need to get that liquor license stat! A little tip: There is one bathroom downstairs. The hallway to the bathroom is very dark. The light switch inside the women's one person bathroom is upside down. I was a little out of sorts with how dark it was and then I had trouble turning on the light. Thought I would mention it to help others. One good thing, they do have nice toilet paper. I'm really trying to give this place some credit! After receiving a comment on my review from the owner, I have a couple of updates to address. We were not there to take advantage of a free drinking venue. My friend and I enjoy trying new restaurants, and this was on our list. The first turn off was not being able to get answers about the menu from our waitress. I understand there was an English barrier, but I don't understand how someone can be an order taker without having the ability to communicate the menu. We were offered three different times to eat, but in between those times we were told the restaurant was closing and due to the first issue, I wasn't sure what to eat. Lastly, I am a great tipper and my friend is an exceptional tipper. I almost always do 20% and my friend is more of a 25% tipper. I wasn't sure how to tip when there wasn't much service. Neither one of us had cash on us, and we discussed that fact, so if we would've had a bill that came after our MEAL, there would've definitely been a tip. Appreciating the time I took to write the review, does not warrant everything we experienced at your restaurant. Not only was I excited to try any new restaurant, but it is also conveniently located to my home. I was hopeful this was going to be a new place to try multiple times. I am happy to give it another try now that I know what I know, and I'll even update my review accordingly. Please have your staff available to answer questions. How do you expect your customers to communicate if the staff can't communicate with the customers?
