Upon walking in to Pastrami n Friends, you sense a warm, friendly feeling. The pictures on the wall, the picture of the Brooklyn Bridge on the wall behind the counter, the oldies music and the friendly greeting all make you want to go in to the dining area and enjoy a meal. The waitress was very pleasant,, the cole slaw and pickles which are brought to the table were fresh and delicious. The soups are always hot and very tasty. When your sandwich arrives, you think that you cannot eat the whole sandwich, but once you take your first bite you realize how tender and delicious it truly is. The staff is always friendly, professional and accomodating and have been working there for years (no fill-ins). Oh, and by the way, they were voted "Best Pastrami on Long Island" in the Long Island Press for 2011 and they truly were not wrong in any way! They were also nominated for "Best Hot Dog on Long Island. They should also be voted for the Best Cole Slaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can write this review since I have been going to Pastrami n Friends for years and have never been disappointed, and certainly have never left hungry. This is our go to place for pastrami and lovely Jewish goodies, we grabbed take out on Mother's day for lunch. We know how busy every restaurant is on this holiday so we called ahead expecting a long wait. I waited outside until it reached the pick up time we were given over the phone. The guy that took the order was super polite and our order was exactly what we asked for, this and the quality of the food would be a 5 star rating. I hadn't realized that by the time I waited on the line inside it would add 20 mins to my pick up time, I usually eat there or my daughter picks up so didn't know there is one line for everything no exceptions. This was fine and everyone waiting and almost all the workers were very nice . I couldn't see who was doing what (the counter is tall) when I asked if I'm in the right line for the order I called in, a man yelled at me not to distract him because he is slicing meat and could be injured and went on to rant rudely about this being his livelihood etc for a long time...I think a simple answer like "yes ,there's one line" would have sufficed. Owner Nasty and Arrogant Went in this establishment and spent $104.21 on (6) sandwiches. Talk about a rip off! Quality was average and hardly any meat on sandwiches. I presented a coupon for a Knish with a $10.00 purchase and was told that I could not use this coupon. Owner runs up to register next to his worker and gets in my face and says, Yes that's right you can't use this coupon because you used a debit card, coupon requires cash only, can't you read and if you don't like it don't come back. WOW what a arrogant unprofessional business man, I JUST SPENT 104.00 IN YOUR STORE ! ! What does a knish cost maybe $1.00 and as you know a debit card is the same as cash. I know that this review is coming in from Left Field. My family moved to Commack in 1963. The location of this Deli was a lumber yard then. When the shopping center opened in 1974, my family was having a meal at Pastrami & Friends at least once a week. My father (passed on in 2015) had his favorite, Franks on Club. I always had the Corned Beef on Rye. We all moved and now live 950 miles south. But I've never forgotten this Deli and am thankful that they are still there.... If I have 50 years of memories of Pastrami & Friends, then it is DEFINITELY worth your time to go there and enjoy a great meal! I have been dining at Pastrami and Friends for years and never get tired of it. My friends and family love it. My son grew up with pickles, homemade coleslaw, hot sauerkraut, along with an amazing kosher deli meat sandwich. The hardest part is deciding from the brisket, or hot corned beef, roast beef, or hot pastrami, to their delicious homemade matzoh ball soup or stuffed derma. My son used to like getting his hot dog on a bun with mustard and sauerkraut accompanied by a warm potato knish. It just doesn't get better than this. I absolutely love this place! My grandma and I had a great experience dining here. The vibes are just what you'd expect and you almost feel like you're transported to a classic deli back in the day. The service is great as well! They've got all the staples, but I feel like you've got to go with the corned beef or pastrami. Don't skip the sides either, as the sweet potato fries are delicious! Even the pickles and coleslaw were top notch: If you're not crazy hungry, you might be able to get away with sharing a sandwich, but if not, it's the perfect meal for leftovers. Everything on the menu here is great. Sometimes we have their wonderful sandwiches. We split one sandwiche because they are huge. We always have soup first. Always have to have the fabulous French fries. If we don't want to get stuffed because we have dinner plans--- we get a cup of soup, usually matza ball, Always the fries and their Hebrew National Franks, with crout, mustard and sauté onions . The food here is delicious! We normally get a pastrami and a cornbeef sandwich and split it so that we can have the best of both worlds. The knishes are to die for! They are the only kosher deli still open in Commack. The only downside is that their prices have gone up and it can cost you upwards of $50 for two people to eat the time you are done.
