I thought I was at a fancy Italian restaurant You'll definitely be happy after ordering this This hero speaks for itself. Now we go to the next Hero. Sausage and pepper sweet sausage the sauce, the hero, so delicious so hot and the cheese that I was asked if I'd like some and I said yes please ! I think I could go on for at least an hour about all the flavors that I tasted, but this is where I'm going to leave it at. And yes, I took a bite of one and a bite of the other and ate them both Only half and another half the rest is going to have to wait at least a little longer before I devour. Saw them on social media and some of the sandwiches that were featured looked yummy. Got the La Almalfi (Prosciutto, sweet soppressata, capicola, provolone, sweet peppers, oil, vinegar). First it's hefty. Was only able to eat half, now I don't have to cook dinner lol the sweet peppers are a great add! May go back and try some of their other specialties. I heard that Leggios had been renovated, so I decided to stop by. I've always loved the old sandwiches from the original owners, and I'm happy to say they've definitely paid homage to that tradition. The renovations are beautiful--modern, fresh, and inviting. They now offer coffee and muffins in addition to their specialty sandwiches. I didn't get my usual Italian sandwich this time, so I can't compare, but I tried the turkey and cheese instead. It was tasty, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Stopped in to this local deli. The service was great. I let them know it was my first visit. They explained the offerings. I ordered the large Italo Americano sandwich and made it a combo. The sandwich was hearty and delicious. For $1.99 more you make it a combo and receive a can soda, small chips, and cold salad. They gave me a sample of greek salad for free. The business feels homey and staff is pleasant. The food is to go only. I would recommend calling ahead to place your order. I loved everything except the chocolate chip cookies I bought on the side. It's the new 2025 leggios it's not the original but that's hard hard to top. They said they have the same bread. The bread and sandwiches was pretty good again not as good as the original but then again I forgot the peppers and not I don't eat pork I got turkey and Swiss back in the days I got the Italian special. The service was great! They was closing there doors and they let us in. They close after 6 and we got there 6:05-6:10 and he served us. Great guy I was talking to one of the owners he was a very nice guy down to earth we spoke like we knew each for years. Talking about vacation, business and so on! The ambiance is definitely way better they spent 300,000 to fix it up and you can tell. It's very nice in there they did a good job on that. read more

Absolutely amazing customer service. I placed a very large, very last minute catering order for my brother's NYE party. They were so kind, patient, and accommodating. I spoke to a young woman whose name I don't know how to spell unfortunately (Sharai?) and she was fantastic. Their food is amazing, fresh, flavorful, and all the pasta salads and sides were packed so well. They also stayed open late to complete our order since it was so last minute. This is my go-to deli for hero's. I lived in Bay Shore for half of my life and never had a bad sandwich. My favorite is roast beef, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. The staff are friendly, the store is clean, and the pictures on the wall display the history of the deli. This is a must stop for a filling meal. read more

With all things considered, this is more a letter of love and appreciation to the fellas at Leggio's. A long running local establishment taken away by time unfortunately. It's sad to hear about their closing but these are one of those things where you're atleast happy because it happened. Where else could you get a full sandwich with the works for a little over $6? My girlfriend and I shared sandwiches from here every so often for picnics and always enjoyed it. And no matter who you were or how often you came, the guys here treated you like family without fail. The new set up and owners are on par for what this place has been for ever. I have brought my kids here several times to share the nostalgia of my high school years. First time at the renovated deli (I was a Leggios's customer since the 90s). Less quaint but much cleaner than when Joe and Lou were manning the counter, also more expensive like anything else but by no means unreasonable. Ordered the Italian classic with hot peppers which was my historical go-to. It was quite generous and very tasty but the bread is not quite as good as I remember - the new owner says he's using the same bakery but I remember the old heros having a somewhat crisper crust and not as much interior filling. Minor complaint, very glad to see them back in business and I'll be back! read more

I can't recommend this Deli enough. My husband was very excited to see it reopened in Bayshore. I got the waste watcher crack, pack for turkey Swiss lettuce, tomato, light, honey, mustard and avocado I couldn't finish. The hero is delicious and he got don't remember the name of it, but it had super solid and it was delicious. It was everything you want from an old-school deli sandwich. I'm literally at a loss for words right now. Some things in life are just poetic and beyond explanation. In my life food happens to be one of those things that can take me to a zen like state. Today I discovered what can only be described as a portal to a different time. Leggios deli is a cross between a deli, an abandoned house and the closet which you open to access the land of Narnia. It it's a literal shrine to everyone who has graced it's doors from the time of LBJ (including LBJ himself) forward a glitch in the matrix if you will. Walking into leggios THERE'S NO MENU.....The man behind the counter looked at me and simply said "You want the Italian?"..... Like a child who had just seen Santa Claus for the first time I simply nodded my head in a blank drunken stare. What was produced from behind the counter five minutes later can only be described as a work of art. The literal muse of a sandwich master who has perfected his craft (this literal one sandwich over decades)like the blacksmiths who made the swords of the samurai. The sandwich itself is served on an approximate 10 inch semolina hero with sesame seeds. It is graced with the most unxious Ham, Salami and Mortadella that has ever touched my lips. The provolone cheese can only be described as coming from the milk extracted from a virgin cow. Combine that with the lettuce, tomato, vinegar and oregano. The first bite will take you to a place which you have never been before. An Italian wonderland. In terms of sandwiches it leaves out the bullshit which has invaded modern day sandwiches. You won't find gimmicks like Mac and cheese or Mozzarella sticks. This is the most classic sandwich IVE EVER EATEN.... IT WAS SIX DOLLARS!!!! CASH. NO CARDS PLEASE!! If you live on Long island you need to make what I can only describe as a holy pilgrimage to Leggios. You will order ONE THING and it'll be the Italian. You won't get to customize it. As someone who was eating Leggio's heros as early as 1984 (I was born in March of '85 btw....my parents just happened to live a block away), I can say that Leggio's was way more than a sandwich shop....it was that, the REAL Bay Shore historical society, an ancestry.com database (as anyone who has ever had a conversation with Joey will attest to!), and sitcom all in one......especially when both Joey and Louie were behind the counter together arguing. Just about everyone who grew up in Bay Shore recognizes the role that Leggio's played in shaping the culture of our hood on the Great South Bay for generations. Sure, there have been the haters who criticized the establishment over the years, as painful as they were to listen to....but I had the privilege of working alongside both Joey and Louie in high school and all throughout college. Behind the counter, where those famous heroes were prepared and stored, was spotless. With the building now being in new hands after 60 plus years and an uncertain future for that iconic storefront on Fourth Ave, it kills me to think of it any other way. Thank you Joey, Louie & Marianne for your dedication to an establishment that was not only the unofficial hub of our town for so many years, but a beacon of class and dignity that most food establishments should look to live up to. read more

I told a coworker that there was something from the board of health stuck on the door when I stopped by today, he responded by Informing me that Louie died last November. I remember when my daughter was little, Joey would reduce the price a bit and insist on giving me yodels or something for my daughter, meanwhile Louie would be shouting, telling Joey to stop giving stuff away! 5 Stars and not JUST for the great deli sandwiches but for the legendary Joey and Louie who have been there since time began. We used to come quite often in the 80's where they made a big fuss over my Dad (Fred the Baker -- "Time to Make the Donuts") Joey would NOT take money from him no matter how hard my Dad tried. Sometimes he would relent and accept the cash -- and how surprised we were to find the money hidden back in our sandwiches on the way to the ferry! Had to remove part of a fiver from my mouth once! My sister went recently and remarked nothing had changed -- which is a good thing as these family run deli's are becoming a lost art. Bread and meats always top notch and generous portions.
