The food was good. Service was fast. Clean place with basic decor. The girl at the register was friendly but the guy was not friendly. He also used his hands without gloves to grab the bread. Just before that he was touching his hair and his face. So I ordered my food on a platter. read more

I love leaving a good review but BOY does this place deserve it. These sandwiches are legit. They are exactly what you want out of an Italian deli. We ate them in the store and they were served fresh and hot, perfectly crispy and HUGE!!! The cugine absolutely stole my heart, the eggplant crunch was everything I needed and the salami bread was out of this world. The 18th Avenue was your classic chicken cutlet sandwich - except the chicken was as perfectly cooked and the bread was phenomenally soft. I grew up in glen cove, surrounded by Italian markets, family and friends and this place exceeded my expectations by far. I'm assuming it was the shop owner that served us - he was polite, straight to the point and got us our sandwiches quickly. Great service, great spot. Will 100% recommend locally. read more

Good food, but the owner lacks any social skills. Total disregard to any of his customers and barely speaks to you. Also he will ring you in and not tell you the price and you have to ask what the total is. Condescending and rude over a sandwich. Also I have been there before where he was in the bathroom and he clearly didn't wash his hands in the bathroom / when he came back to prepare food. Overdue review, I ate here after they first opened but forgot to review. I stopped by after getting off the train to pick up a sandwich. I chose the special which had chicken cutlets, bacon, fontina, and shredded lettuce on a semolina hero with a cranberry balsamic glaze. It was stuffed with perfectly cooked cutlets, plenty of crispy bacon, fontina (an underrated melt cheese IMO), and I asked for the glaze on the side. It was a pretty large sandwich so I shared it with my mom. So delicious, each bite with a different flavor but everything so balanced. Definitely will stop by again soon. read more

Took a break from the specials this month, so me and three of my friends at work ordered the Cugine, Verrazano, 18th Ave and Capo and had them cut in fours so we could each try them. Simply amazing! Culinary works of art by Chef David. It was my first time trying the Cugine, and it was as advertised by all my friends - perfectly sliced and cooked eggplant and salami bread that makes it outrageously good. The cutlet on the 18th was to die for. The Verrazano sausage and broccoli delivered on all the flavors you'd want and expect. And the Capo was huge - best Italian I've had in a while. So glad we got to try out so many of the on-menu items! read more

I was looking for a new sandwich place, and stumbled upon this gem. The eatery was adorned with mementos that not only set a comfortable ambiance, but gave you an insight to the culture and care that goes into the food. Service was prompt. We tried the 67th Street sandwich (grilled chicken, broccoli rabe); the chicken was juicy and tender, and the sandwich was so stuffed the bread was holding on for dear life. The second sandwich was their Italian; bread was crispy and the sandwich itself was stuffed to the gills! But the crown jewel was the Cugine. The eggplant was fried perfectly, and the sandwich had the entire spectrum of flavors and textures. #1 Problem, the OWNER. Read the 1 star reviews. Food is good. He is just nasty even his employees look at him and roll their eyes. We ordered a BEC and asked for ketchup packet sand he reponded, "Give me a minute" in the nastiest way. They will fail because of him, word travels faster than yelp, LIRR chat says food is good but owner is a problem. read more

I have lived down the block for many years and never knew this existed. I have had the pleasure of eating here twice. This is the best Italian sandwiche I've ever had. It is old school and the ingredients are as fresh as it gets. The sausage and peppers... The sausage is seasoned perfectly. The chicken cutlet is out of this world no matter what sandwich it is on. The rainbow cookies are amazing as well. I order two sandwiches and I'm good for two days. Portions are great. Other places charge the same and it doesn't come close to the quality. Anything you order you can't go wrong. I'm making my way through the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. read more

I'm torn about my experience here. I learned about the amazing sandwiches from a family member who had them catered heros last summer. So I went with my husband to pick up lunch there since it was so good. I arrived and I said hello and was friendly and mentioned this was my first time here. The person (who I think may be the owner) was kinda rude and said "what do you want to order" and seemed bothered. I thought maybe he's having a bad day and ordered my sandwich. There are sit down bar height tables in the store so I ate my sandwich there. The sandwich is enough for 2 people, they are gigantic and delicious. Since I enjoyed my sandwich, i asked if I can place an order for Super Bowl and it almost seemed like the owner was inconvenienced for me asking a few questions and said it was his biggest day of the year for sales. I placed an order anyway since the food is good. Today, I pick up my order, I arrived right on time, second in line- the person before me was treated kindly and with respect, but when it was my turn in line, I was treated rude. What really bothered me was after I paid for my catering order, the next customer the owner was all smiley and kind to. Its really odd to me that as a new customer, who was friendly, and even came back for a catering order- would be treated like this I probably won't return because I didn't appreciate how I was treated twice. 3 stars for delicious sandwiches. read more

Breakfast hit the spot this morning! Thank you other Yelp reviewers for recommending this gem! Had the Cadillac and Stevie's Special because we wanted to try two things but we are bringing home half of each these sandwiches are massive and delicious - what an amazing value! Eggs cooked perfectly. We preferred the Cadillac as it's meat and veg were nicely balanced. Ordered the Stevie's on recommendation from other Yelp reviewers, it was good but mild flavored. Sandwich that I specifically asked with vinegar and oil came with tons of balsamic (that I personally don't like). The mortadela and prosciutto had a skin/plastic and you can't chew that. Gross. Welcome Mercato Cucina to Huntington. I was definitely attracted to the Instagram photos. It's easy to find 1046 New York Ave, Huntington Station. They definitely get a 5 for Italian quality & freshness. The loaf of semolina bread was absolutely delicious bringing me right back to Brooklyn. They give you a nice salami cut & delicious the mozzarella was delicious but to thin for me. On the menu they have only one size sandwiches which are perfect if you can eat a loaf of bread. Of course, I couldn't it's a manly sandwich. I asked if they would sell 1/2 of sandwich because I wasn't able to bring it home on that day & they couldn't accommodate the request. Of course I bought it & wasn't disappointed and if your looking for a real authentic Italian sandwich then you should pop into Mercato Cucina. read more

After 24 hours without caffeine and a three-hour nuclear stress test, I treated myself and my lady to lunch and lattes at this adorable new Huntington Station eaterie/market Mercato Cucina. Cute place, incredible quality ingredients (most imported from Italy), super friendly owners, and great food. These sandwiches were spectacular, especially my exquisite Cugine (crispy but tender eggplant, mozz, pesto and sun-dried tomato spread on salami bread). The refreshing Shore Road (Italian tuna, lemon juice, olives, capers, lettuce and tomato on olive bread) was no slouch, either. New fave place, just as good as on my first solo visit weeks earlier. read more

A great new deli that opened up in Huntington Station, and I was excited to give it a try for awhile now. The place is pretty intimate, very clean and new, and the owner/workers there are very friendly and attentive. We went in for an 18th Avenue Chicken Cutlet sandwich, huge, flavorful, and delicious. Ended up being 2 meals 1/2 each. And one of the Tuna Subs, which was pretty good, just a little fishy. Picked up some Olive Spread and Fig Jam to have on crackers also for a snack, so they have a decent market variety of goods, and fresh foods. Happy to see this in the neighborhood and wish them all the luck! Will return and recommend! read more

Another Yelper is exactly right. The owner is a downright @$$hole. He actually went way out of his way to make sure he was rude at every opportunity. I entered and mentioned I had met his team at a charity event in the Hamptons and had a delicious salad there (which the person at the booth said "was very popular" -- insinuating it was sold at the restaurant/market). He barked at me that it was made special for the event and they don't carry it. There were hardly 5 sides/dishes there that you could see and buy, everything else is prepackaged or a sandwich or drink made-to-order -- not a kitchen or a market as implied in the name. Then, we asked about how much the mozzarella cheese was -- the guy behind the counter only told us per pound. My mom asked how much for that one and when the guy seemed like he didn't understand, my mom handed it to him so he could weigh it and we could buy it. The owner saw out of the corner of his eye and screamed at my mom DON'T TOUCH! They forgot to add extra aioli to a sandwich that was way overpriced. Olives were way overpriced too at $12+ -- and that about sums up the pre-purchasing experience. Then we bought $70+ worth of all kinds of stuff since we were already there ... and I said THANK YOU and the owner who flat out ignored me. I said it, not because I meant it, but to see if he had ANY human qualities. His silence told me that he does NOT. Despite the good mozzarella, we will take great pleasure in avoiding this so-called restaurant. I would encourage any readers to skip Mercato Cucina unless you enjoy throwing money out the window while being treated like a trespassing pest. A hidden gem. The chef/owner clearly knows what he's doing. His ingredients, from the breads to the meats and cheeses, to the various spreads, are top shelf. He is efficient, he is professional, and his sandwiches are off the charts amazing. I had the Stevie's Special for breakfast and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Great addition to the suburban hood! An authentic Brooklyn style sandwich shop dripping with character and flavor. Giant hero "sandwiches" which seem to weigh about a few lbs each all made fresh with awesome semolina, olive, salami, etc, artisan breads. Sausage, salami, mortadella, Italian tuna, eggplant and more! Reminds one of all the great Brooklyn shops, and the real deal Brooklynite owner even has the old school Caddy parked out front! This place is an absolute gem. Every ingredient is pure quality, and the imported meats, cheese and veggies in the antipasto platter are all phenomenal, especially the reggiano.
