Hands down the worst cake I have ever had. So dry it wouldn't stay on fork. I have tried this bakery for brownies not great. Then I tried a chocolate chip cookie when I picked up my cake and it had zero flavor. How does a chocolate chip cookie not have flavor. Fourth and last time I will ever give this place my business. Yokes has better cakes than this at half the cost. And when I was trying to order my cake, I should've known better. They told me more things that they wouldn't do for me than things that they could do. I wanted one layer chocolate, one layer of vanilla can't do it won't do it. So I settled on all chocolate cake and figuring that should be pretty easy. I should've gotten a clue. This was our 18th anniversary cake and we threw it in the garbage. They must've made the cake days prior to me picking it up froze and thawed it out. This is embarrassing. read more

We have been getting every birthday cake here for five years for my kids. Most recently purchased the Bluey cake and quality and taste have seriously diminished! The first two cakes were amazing and the last two have been so dry and flavor was so sub par. We went to a birthday party right after my littles and had a Walmart cake that tasted more moist and the chocolate flavor was much more rich. Poor quality 1/4 sheet chocolate mocha cake for mom's 90th Birthday celebration at CDA Resort Cake was ordered a month in advance Confirmed with decoration details a week prior. Spoke to someone the day of delivery to CDA Kootenai boat at 5pm. No instructions left with caterers setting up food. They knew the cake was being delivered. Cake was placed out of the way in the sun. I should have ordered a cake through the resort. Your decorations were obviously last minute with yellow candy stars, a few amateurish musical notes and maybe a few moons for a DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT THEME. The top was blank. Detailed extensively with Hayley but obviously not communicated with your cake designer? $117 including $25 delivery. Not one person commented on the look or taste. Truly embarrassing. Sad for my 90 year old Mom with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. This likely won't happen again. Do not use this bakery without speaking directly to a decorator. Thankfully I brought gold star sparkler candles. I'll let the ladies at the CDA boat rental know. Also posted on wedding wire. (This review is strictly in regards to their customer service) I came to Pastry and More looking to order a custom wedding cake for my grandparents 50th anniversary & vow renewals. I brought in an original picture from their wedding in 1969 that showed the cake I wanted. I left said picture with them 1. so that they could use it and 2. so they would see I am serious about working with them. Pros: There is a young girl who works the counter who is extremely sweet and helpful. I never had anything but a positive interaction with her. Cons: I had to pull teeth to get any type of contact from the owner/baker Amanda. I first went into the store on Saturday 7/13, owner did not address me in any way even though she was standing right there. (A smile and a hello is just fine). The assistant told me to email my order since Amanda was busy. Tues 7/16: I send first email with my order. Thursday 7/18: Haven't received any kind of response so I call. Assistant tells me Amanda will get back to me soon. Saturday 7/20: STILL have not gotten a response, so I call again. A different assistant tells me that she will put a note on Amanda's desk so she will respond to me. Tues 7/23: ONE FULL WEEK after my email order she responds back to me. The quote she gives me is for 10 more people than I want, so I respond back and ask what the price would be if we adjust the headcount. Thurs 7/25: Have not received an answer to my very simple question, so I call. Assistant apologizes and says Amanda will get back to me. Tues 7/30: Receive a response. We're now 4 days away from the day I'd be picking up my cake. Are you kidding me???? Wednesday 7/31: I drop in the store to pick up my photo, because I'm obviously not going to order with them. The nice assistant asked me, "Did Amanda just not get back to you?" I told her, "it was all just taking way too long" to which she replied, "I totally understand, I'm so sorry". If there is another place in town you can order a cake I recommend doing so. That was a headache I didn't need in my life. Amanda, if you are too busy to take new orders, you need to say so. Not give crappy customer service. read more

The service of this place is horrible. When I got my sons cake for his birthday that I paid good money for, the cake completely fell apart when we cut into it. I emailed them with pictures and my concerns and they basically told me that I intentionally destroyed the cake and that they know they made a good cake. On top of that, the cake was 75% frosting and very little cake. It was horrible. We ended up just throwing the whole cake away. Very disappointing. The employees are very rude and unprofessional and uneducated. I would definitely choose any place over this one. Even Walmart cakes are better to be completely honest. read more

After searching and talking to several different places, we decided on pastry and more for our wedding cake. We did our tasting and decided on white cake with strawberry filling for two tiers and chocolate mousse filling for the other two tiers. We never got to try the chocolate mousse, but our guests loved it. We loved the strawberry filling with buttercream frosting. I'm usually not a cake person, but we ate leftover cake for weeks and didn't get tired of it. The cake was reasonably priced and paid the $80 delivery fee. Our cake turned out beautiful! For your convenience, I have posted a picture of the beautiful cake they gave me for my 12-year-old son's birthday party. Double chocolate with raspberry jelly filling and buttercream frosting on top. I needed a pirate theme, so the Master Baker, Amanda, made this amazing 3-D cake with a skull and cross bones, and covered with delicious gold and tasty jewelry and mouth-watering treasure! Based upon the rave reviews of other customers we also bought pumpkin pie and the orange rolls. We were sure glad that we did. The dinner rolls were soft and delicious. I like my rolls a little more "doughy" but my wife and kids devoured them. They were, admittedly, very good. The frosted orange rolls were sweet enough to eat as breakfast....so that's how we ate them. The pumpkin pie was easily the best pumpkin pie I've had. The pumpkin filling was spicy without being too spicy. Great crust. We were glad we exchanged home cooking for a professional baker. That is not our typical sentiment. read more

Sweet little place. Can't give you much in the way of a review- Jerry and I just passed through Coeur D'Alene on our way to Spokane from Montana and decided to hit up a bakery. We got a famed orange roll and what appeared to be a large tuile cookie (it wasn't a cookie at all lol) for a mere three bucks. The orange roll was good! Not too sweet- a nice flaky orange scented brioche type roll with a thin orange glaze on the top. A perfect little treat. This large circular disc of not-a-tuile-cookie is actually maybe a thin toffee with chocolate drizzle. It's thin and crisp and delicious. The best non cookie surprise ever. Get it. I ordered a Mimosa cake from their website for my mom's 75th birthday. I was told it would be ready on the day by noon. I called that morning to make sure it would be ready as promised, and it was already done and available for pick-up. We took the cake with us to Cedars Floating Restaurant and had it for desert after our meal. The cake was beautiful to look at with glitter on the white Champaign infused icing, giving it the look of sparkling bubbles. The orange flavored cake was perfect, not overpowering or cloying, but just the right. Moist, flavorful, and beautiful. Did you ever get the feeling a business really isn't interested in dealing with customers? The two young ladies working today are a prime example of customers begone, we can't be bothered. One teenager had no clue about any of the products in the case. She repeatedly had to ask the other girl what various things were. Unfortunately, the other girl has the worst poker face in North Idaho. She was annoyed, angry, and bitchy. Service with a smile? Not this woman. I was driving through Coeur d'Alene on my way to Seattle and like the city itself Pastry and More was a pleasantly unexpected surprise! It's a very charming business and I enjoyed my experience there for many reasons. It was by chance that I even found the place, and decided to stop in for lunch. The lunch menu is not extensive--there are basic sandwiches with three bread options, your choice of the typical assortment of lunch meats, cheeses and vegetables. They also have a soup of the day, a sumptuous tomato bisque the day I was there. Like I said, it's pretty basic, but you get to choose whatever you want on your sandwich and they also have an option between a half and whole sandwich in case you're looking for a lighter lunch. I went with the whole sandwich because I like to eat and the whole sha-bang of a soup and sandwich came with a drink (lemonade for me) and a free mini-pastry. I was tempted by the carrot cake, but went with a sweeter lemon flavored classic petit four because for whatever reason I had an insatiable craving for as much icing as possible. The entire meal (which also came with a pickle mind you) was around $8 I think, which is pretty darn good. Pastry and More is also the home of the so called "famous Orange Roll," a buttery dinner roll with hints of fresh orange flavor and a thin splash of orange frosting. It's actually not as sweet as it sounds, and I mean that in a good way. A woman actually came in and purchased two while I was there, eating one right at the cash register so I figured that was a pretty indicative endorsement beyond the bakery's own proclamation. I ended up purchasing two myself (one for each hand) and saved them for later during my roadtrip. They were absolutely delicious; nice and light both in texture and in taste. The bakery also offers plenty of other rolls, breads, pastries, cakes and desserts. Ambience was simple (which I prefer) with a few small tables set up for casual lunchers. Service was also excellent and very friendly; I encountered three different people (an altitudinous man at the register when I bought my lunch, a young woman who took over when I bought the orange rolls and another employee who simply asked me how my lunch tasted) and found them to be very welcoming and engaging. It always enhances the experience when you come across people who enjoy their jobs. Besides, they also had a decorated cake in the shape of a grizzly bear rug.
