I'm not usually one to blast a business online or complain about customer service, but this one really missed the mark. Last Tuesday, I called Lilac City Bakery to order a custom Minecraft-themed cake for Paxton's 8th birthday. We talked through everything--flavor, size, layers, filling, and most importantly, the design. I specifically asked for the Minecraft "block" look, and she mentioned adding green grass edging to an 8-inch round cake. I also requested it say "Happy 8th Birthday Paxton." Total cost: $167. Fast forward to Saturday pickup... and it was just a chocolate cake covered in green frosting. No blocks. No characters. Nothing that even remotely said "Minecraft." I shared my disappointment at the counter, and the solution was to add a few pre-cut fondant pieces on the spot. I reached out to management afterward, hoping for some understanding or resolution, and was told: "I do not find that we made any missteps in providing a custom, hand crafted cake which aligns with the theme." and "hope you enjoyed the cake over all, as it was very well done". However I completely disagree. So I'm genuinely asking... are my expectations too high for a $170 custom cake? Because this felt like a pretty big miss. read more

We selected Lilac City Bakery for our wedding cake and amenity cookies for our guest. My husband is Colombian, and they offered us a traditional cookie as an option for our wedding. Amber and the team at Lilac City were AMAZING! The cake looked exactly like the inspirational pictures I gave her. Also, Danny is not a fan of sweets, and she customized the cake flavor and ingredients to please Danny on our wedding day. People are still talking about both the cake and the cookies. read more

It is a great little neighborhood bakery full of a beautiful assortment of treats; some healthier than others. I lucked out and got some great end of day pricing. I can tell you that their cinnamon rolls, cranberry/oat bar thingy, and cupcakes are tasty! The team member who took care of me was friendly and thorough, ensuring I had everything I needed in the bag. (traveling for business).... Will I return? Absolutely. read more

The first time we ordered from them was for a birthday in December 2024, when we got cupcakes that were honestly a little dry. We gave them another try with a 6-inch birthday cake on December 9, 2025, and it was much better--not dry at all. Then we ordered a cake from Lilac City Bakery on December 19, 2025, and it was incredibly fresh and not the least bit dry. Their cakes just keep getting better and better. We will definitely be back for vegan cakes in the future. read more

very amateur looking cake, especially for $170 management did not care that the customer was not happy with how their cake turned out. I was standing, observing how they treated this lady and to be honest with you. I think she could've got a better cake at Safeway or Costco. it really was hideous and absolutely not what a Mine Craft themed cake. I hope she posts a picture of the cake. read more

One caveat about Lilac City Bakery - any of their baked goodies you see on display have likely been sitting there a while. We went in ... wow! It all looks so enticing. We wanted to grab a couple muffins for the road. I asked for this one that had a crumble and icing swirl on top. She said it was blueberry. Cool! I'm guessing it's got some great, wild, locally sourced blueberries inside this huge muffin. NOPE! It's basically a golden cake muffin and, this one in particular, had 3 TINY almost dried (like the bag you get at Costco) blueberries. The whole muffin was D-R-Y! Sad, because I had high (expectations) hopes for a nice treat from these folks. It did have good flavor but, c'mon! It was basically crumble frosted dry yellow cake. And for $3.50! These were some of the best cupcakes I've ever had! We got eight recently for my sister's birthday and they still taste fresh even the next day. There's always new flavors and they're always delicious! They're fluffy and delicate and the frosting is always so creamy. There's honestly a cupcake for everyone :)! Do not walk in here if you're hungry and easily tempted by sweets because you'llwalk out with several kilos of muffins or other pastries. The smell knocks you over and then the customer service is so good that one wants to buy a wheel barrow load full of goodies. Actually ignore what I said about don't come in hungry. Absolutely do! Food is great. Flat breads are awesome. Soup is terrific. New fave place in Spokane. read more

Clean large space which would easy to bring a group. Beautiful presentation and parings of flavors for cupcakes. A bit pricey and yet each cupcake is perfection. The entrance to the bakery is on the side of the building near the patio...it's not well marked. My husband went in today to buy gluten free cupcakes as a treat for my birthday. Happy to find gluten free cupcakes but not at $5 a piece. It was too late to put some back as they were already boxed up. We really feel discriminated against when businesses like yours price gouge people with allergies and diseases. I know gluten free flour costs more (as I myself am a baker) but you don't have to do a 100% mark up for that flour. Your cupcakes tasted phenomenal but when your competitors are half the price we unfortunately won't be returning customers. read more

I once ordered a cake from here that was soooooooo good. I have been back 3 times since and each time I am very disappointed. I have tried their counter baked goods which are not nearly as good as the cake that was ordered. The rasperberry oat bars had absolutely no flavor. None. The sugar cookie was so hard, so hard I thought I broke a tooth and the no bake cookie was just ..okay. *** This was in response to my Google review. The "owner" responded to my review basically saying how dare I have an opinion and that my opinion was bias, which I'm positive they have no idea what that word means.... *** I'm not really sure what you mean by your response. I dont feel it is bias at all. The cake I ordered was delicious and well made and I kept returning hoping for that same experience with your counter baked goods and honestly they werent that great. I dont want a refund from you or your store, I took a chance on your bakery just like I would at any establishment. You spent money to make it, I purchased it. The fact that you sell the products all across the "region" doesnt mean a whole lot to me because it doesnt change my experience at your bakery. Which I wont bother coming to again because you seem unpleasant at best. I changed my review from 3 to 1 star. read more

I wanted to give 1 star but I only had a cake pop from here that came from The Garden Coffee Shop in the valley so I didn't want to be completely mean with 1 star based off of 1 item but let me tell you, this cake pop was disgusting! It tasted so cheap and artificial, almost like chapstick! YUCK! I love cake pops but this one was horrible, and how in the heck do you screw up a ball of cake rolled in chocolate???? That's pretty hard to do in my opinion. I won't be a customer here just based off of this cake pop and the other reviews posted. I RARELY base my decision on trying a place out based on some bad reviews but I can see that this place uses cheap ingredients and a BAKERY should at least get a darn cake pop right lol! read more

My first visit to this bakery/restaurant was for a Christmas lunch date with friends. The decor is casual and friendly (loved the wall of baking tins as art). The lunch menu is small, with just a few sandwiches and tomato basil or the soup of the day. (Sandwiches come with a salad or you can sub a soup for an extra charge). We all ordered the same thing, panini toasted cheese and soup. I had the tomato basil and it was wonderful. The sandwich was nicely toasted on tasty bread. The assortment of baked goods (cookies, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, cake pops, brownies) was amazing! They also have gluten free baked items as well as a gluten free/dairy free cupcake. The staff was very nice and helpful, and it was fun to see them working away on all the bakery items, right behind the counter. I'll be back! read more

I worked for this bakery. The cakes are not from scratch, unless you order the Red Velvet. They use a vanilla or chocolate pillsbury cake mix, and add extract flavoring to flavor the cake to order. Cookie dough is made days before it is scooped and baked off to be wrapped and stuck in the freezer until sold. Muffins are a base mix as well, add some extract and poppyseeds, chocolate chips, or blueberries and there ya go! Bagels were frozen, and none of the fillings are from scratch either, just pre-filled bags that sit in a box. Cupcakes are made the day before, not the day of and the buttercream sits in huge bins for who knows how long. The back of the house where things are prepped and baked is dirty, and unorganized. Management is horrible, delegates all the tasks to the employees and sits on their phone in the back office, when something goes wrong they'll blame anyone but themselves. If you are looking for a birthday cake, or wedding cake, save the money and just make the same quality of product from a box at home, or look at other bakeries in Spokane! read more

I bought their s'mores macaron and a bacon maple bar and they were both incredible. The maple bar had fresh bacon on it which was amazing! Macaron has the perfect crunch. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items. Based solely on this one experience, I give 5 stars. Yum! read more

Been trying to find the best bakery since moving here in 2014. Don't know how I haven't gone in until yesterday. I've gotten their cookies at Daily Habit Coffee and now I'm in love with their vanilla cupcakes. I'm a chocolate lover, but these were amazing. Their buttercream is the best. Experience/Service: the place is cute cute cute! The service was top-notch, friendly, and genuine. Food: wow! A bakery this truly is. I had the opportunity to try several types of scones and some sort of almond roll and it was all delicious. I especially loved the lemon-blueberry scone and I normally don't even like lemon. If I had been in town more than 2 days I would have gone more. Price: normally I don't mention this because prices are in the eye of the beholder. But compared to my native SoCal the prices here were $1-2 less per drink. A latte and a huge home-baked scone for $10? Wouldn't happen elsewhere. So bravo for keeping prices reasonable. Loved visiting Spokane and this was a key part of my experience in the South Hill.
