The food was really good, but the service at checkout wasn't the best. The person helping us seemed distracted. I had to say "sir" several times just to get his attention. When my husband went up to order, he tried pointing at the menu (since it's large and easier that way), but the person wasn't accepting. He was only doing that to avoid mispronouncing anything, especially after I had just been corrected somewhat abruptly on pronunciation when I asked about an item. It made the interaction feel a bit uncomfortable. We went around 2-3, thinking it might be a quieter time since we were coming in with an infant (which is new for us), but it actually started getting pretty busy. They do have some baby/car seat accommodations, which was helpful, but the dining area itself isn't very spacious; there wasn't much room for a stroller. Overall, the food was great, and we'd still return if we were in the area again to try more items, but the customer service and space could definitely use some improvement. read more

Looking for gluten free options during a road trip isn't very easy. My family and I were traveling from Houston to New Orleans and as dinner time approached while driving through Lafayette, we started looking for food options. When Patacon came up on my list I was ecstatic. We are Venezuelan/Colombian so finding our traditional food is always wonderful, especially after my celiac diagnosis. It was already 7pm so we had to take our food to go, but the restaurant is very clean inside and welcoming. The family who runs it are super nice and gave us lots of tips for our trips and made us want to go back. We ordered the reina pepiada and brisket arepas and we were in heaven. We have a lot of arepa places back in South Florida and my mom (who is super picky and hard to please) said the places we frequent should go to Patacon and learn from them! Patacon is the only Venezuelan restaurant I know of anywhere near Lafayette, and everything I've tried has been excellent. Patacon, arepas, empanadas, tequenos, and tres leche are all outstanding. Don't skip the sauces, and the red one is seriously spicy. They have Mexican coke. The restaurant is cute and also tiny, so we tend to order to go. The service is friendly and fast. read more

Ordered delivery off-hours, 2:30 pm on a Saturday. 1 arepa shredded beef 1 patacon shredded beef. 1 empanada ground beef. Everything showed up in a single small paper bag, a good sign. Arepa and Patacon wrapped in foil and warm. The Arepa may be my favorite. Simple, authentic, fresh avocado and tomato. Good portion of shredded beef and not over stuffed. Patacon was fantastic, and a large portion. About twice the size of the arepa. The sauce looked a little heavy but it was a light flavor so it didn't bother me. A nice treat but on the heavy side with the twice fried plantain bun. Empanada had a solid filling of ground beef and seasoned well. Dough was evenly cooked and simple corn flavor. The orange sauce was hot af, but really good. I broke a sweat but finished it. Green cilantro sauce was mild and a good flavor, felt like an authentic guasacaca. Glad I gave it a try and I can see myself grabbing an arepa for a fresh lunch on the go. If I had a friend in town and we were going for a treat I'd recommend the Patacon and a cold beer. read more

This place is Lafayettes hidden gem. The food is absolutely incredible, the service is warm and welcoming, the ambiance gives "hole in the wall" in the best way, and you won't break the bank exploring the menu. The shredded beef Patacon is elite, the guava and cheese tequenos are phenomenal, the Nutella and cheese tequenos are great, the beef empanada is so flavorful and savory, the pizza pastelitos were good, and the homemade red and green sauces are the icing on the cake. I really wanted to love this place. Let's start at the beginning... I ordered it to go and walked in around 2 p.m. The restaurant was empty but for one table. The owner was speaking to one of the ladies in their very small party of two and didn't acknowledge me whatsoever. Did not look up and say hi, nod, nothing. I stood there waiting for a good 5-7 minutes while they finished up their conversation. I should have walked out now looking back but I didn't want to be rude even though I was being treated rudely. Anyway, I ordered the Patacon with shredded beef and the Pork arepa. The patacon barely had any beef on it (see photo) and was just bland. I was disappointed to say the least. The pork arepa was better, but not much. I was unhappy with the food and it was not inexpensive. The only thing I liked about Patacon was the cute decor. There was a time, before covid came along, that we stopped into this place at least twice a month. We only realized today that we hadn't been in a VERY long time, and decided on a nice Friday dinner. Well, covid seems to have diminished their seating, but I have to give them props for keeping people at a protective distance from one another. On the other hand, the big, young guy at the register, a member of the owner family who apparently considers himself a wit, was so obviously condescending to the two gringos, not to mention flirting with half the women that spoke to him, that we seriously considered going somewhere else. Our table while we waited (more like an end table) was so squeezed in by the door that we didn't see it at first, and too thin to get one's legs under it comfortably. The food took an easy 25 minutes to arrive despite the fact that there are now only five tables in the place. We did not stay to eat in. We may not have to this restaurant in a while, but we have sent PLENTY of friends, family and clients to Patacon, because their food is good, and their service was, until now, polite and welcoming. A customer is a customer regardless of skin or sex, folks. Maybe you guys are concentrating too hard on the food truck. You can do better. read more

I found myself in Lafayette for a couple of days and was curious as to what kind of tasty food I could find. I knew Lafayette was known for really great Cajun food and Boudin but being Latinx myself, I always try to scope some good Latinx food in town if possible. Lo and behold, I found Patacon on yelp and the reviews seemed promising. My girlfriend is gluten free so it can sometimes be tough to find GF options. Almost everything on their menu was GF! All the food we ordered was absolutely delicious! And to boot, the bill only came to $25 bucks. We ordered a corn empanada filled with crawfish, a cheese and avocado Patacon, a pork Patacon, and a beef arepa. The arepa was pretty good but the true standouts were the patacones. WOW. If you've never had one before I highly recommend you try one for the first time here. A Patacon is a sandwich that essentially uses fried plantains as a substitute for bread. The sauces they include with your order were also very flavorful. The red one was pretty spicy so definitely don't slather it on unless you have a high spice tolerance. I took the food to go, but they did have a little seating area with about six or seven tables. I definitely look forward to come back to this cute and tasty spot again the next time I'm in Lafayette and craving some tasty Venezuelan food. read more

I am SO happy I found this spot in Lafayette. I was raised in Doral in Miami, FL and there is a lot of Venezuelan influence in that area. I am Cuban but I grew up eating arepas, cachitos, tequeños so when I moved to Lafayette and saw this spot and all the great reviews, I was so excited to try it. I've had the tequeños, arepa with cheese, avocado and butter, and the three different types of empanadas. All was DELICIOUS and honestly brought me back home! You are all doing a great job and P.S. However this gem is first and foremost serving delicious flavorful food that shows the passion that Lafayette restaurants have. My favorite city to travel to has now added one more must have stop (every-time I visit). I had the beef pastelitos (could have eaten 10 of those). The order comes on three but you will NOT want to share. I also had the pabellón criollo. The beef had a lot of flavor and the black beans were perfect!!! I will give a warning. The red sauce is HOT. Food was great... I ordered the Patacones with chicken. Was pretty legit! A different texture that reminded me of a taco. Think thick crunchy taco shell as buns. Arepas with shrimp was the next thing I ordered. I was expecting ethnic flavors, but I guess this place is fusion, or just having to cater to the locals cause the shrimp were done in an étouffée. This restaurant is a treasure in Lafayette! It's Venezuelan and not like anything I've eaten before. The Pabellon arepa is one of my favorite sandwiches in South Louisiana--it's like a masa pita filled with black beans, cheese, shredded beef and fried plantains.... omg, so delicious! The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but is clean and cozy inside. The staff is always great and helpful if you're a first-timer trying to decide what to get from the menu. We stop at Patacon Latin Cuisine annually on our family vacation from Dallas to Destin. The place is a true gem!!! It's so yummy that we take a route that is over an hour longer just so that we can stop there. We have tried all the patacones and they are equally delicious. The green sauce is perfection.
