It seems a little odd to go to an Argentine steakhouse when you're in Spain, but trust me - you won't regret it. My husband's boss had allowed me to join the team dinner one year, so I learned how great a find it was. Service is on point from the moment you walk in. I highly recommend my favorite appetizer: the provoletas con pimientos del piquillo. It's a big melty bowl of provolone cheese with oregano and pimiento peppers. It didn't really sound like my thing, but I LOVED it. They give you three rolls that are great for dipping in it. I ordered the small portion of the Lomo filet, tender as could be and cooked to order. I asked for the grilled potato with cheese sauce as my side - basically a baked potato with cheese sauce instead of butter. They like their cheese here! (Okay by me...) At this point we were done. This place holds special meaning for me as it was one of the first "real" restaurants I visited on my first trip to Barcelona. We had a team dinner here after a very long day of work and I remember thinking, "I flew all the way to Spain, why would I want a steak from Argentina??" Valid question, right? First off, the meat and wine served here is fantastic. Even the lowest-tier wines by the glass are good by my tastes (I am definitely no wine expert, so take that for what it is). The beef has excellent flavor and is served with a bit of salt that adds that extra bump in flavor. I have been to this place either alone or with 5-12 other people several times over the past 9 years, excepting 2020 and 2021. But, let's talk about the other aspects of this place: 1) you can make reservations online 2) the service has always been great 3) the appetizers and side dishes Making reservations online may not seem like a big deal, but when you don't have an international calling plan, it is so much easier to find a hotspot and book a table. Mind you, the processes and prices for international calling and data plans have come a long way in the past decade! Whether I was flying solo or had a dozen of my coworkers with me, the servers were friendly and attentive. (Keep in mind that the expectations of waitstaff in the US and elsewhere are often different.) My favorite appetizer, by far, is the "Provoletas con pimientos del piquillo." This is a thick, baked slice of provolone cheese topped with red peppers (not spicy) and, I believe, oregano. I was alone during my latest visit and during my last visit in 2018, the team ordered the version without the "pimientos del piquillo." So, I ordered the "correct" version and ate the whole thing myself. It was SOOO good. If you're up for trying some more traditional Argentine starters, the "Rueda de achuras" is an adventure. As a general rule, offal is not my thing. I prefer my offal hidden inside sausage casings... so the Chorizo criollo is more my speed than the rest. By myself, this time, I had the Bife de Chorizo, half portion. When I am with a group, I try to make a deal with another person to get the Ojo de Bife -- over a pound (half a kilo) and described as "The most tasty and juicy rib eyes" ... and they're not kidding about it being enough for 2 people. Any of the add-on sauces are good, but know that the flambéed morel sauce is very rich. As for side dishes, if you order fries, they stack them in a little tower (I am certain there are many pictures here) and they're fresh and tasty. I like the Grilled potato with cheese sauce. It is basically the texture of a baked potato with a whipped topping made of cheese. No need for butter here -- and I don't say that lightly :) For dessert (if you have room!), I suggest the Panqueque de Dulce de Leche (basically caramel-filled crepes with vanilla ice cream), though the Tarta Tatin is also good. I don't know that I have had the Patagonia, but it also sounds fantastic. I had to Google the word "quenelle" because, while English, I had no idea what it meant. When you've had enough pan con tomate and patatas bravas, book a table at Patagonia, loosen your belt, and prepare to dig into a hunk of beef. read more

Words just cannot properly describe how amazing the dinner was! We took the suggestions of our Waitress and we were so thankful! Her recommendations: Appetizer - we had 2 Sampler Plate of Argentinian Empanadas: 2 with Beef and 2 with Ham and Cheese. They were so tasty, the flavors unbelievable so much so that we would have made a meal of it all. Their Chimichuri sauce we added to the Empanadas was the best we have ever had. Provoleta - our Waitress told us about this very traditional Argentinian dish and told us how good it was (we asked as we saw almost every table order it) and so we ordered one too. It was so good... so simple.. Steak - we each ordered their Filet. It was honestly the best Filet we have ever tasted, melted in our mouth and cooked to perfection. The steak was full of flavor and the smallest amount of Chimichuri sauce made it that much better. Potatoes - rather than what we normally put on a Baked Potato (Butter, Sour Crème and Chives) they put Cream Cheese. So I decided to bump up my national U.S. steakhouse tour and take it international. Amidst all the tapas and other culinary selections in Barcelona, I decided to grab a steak. A ribeye to be exact (surprise, surprise). Overall, I'd give the meal 3 stars. I've become accustomed to more marbling in my ribeye; this Argentinian/Spanish version was less fatty, though still definitely juicy. Oddly enough, I ordered the grilled potatoes with cheese sauce as a side dish, and they brought out a baked potato with sour cream and chives. That wouldn't have been my selection had I known. Service was attentive and the salad bar had good, but few options. The server did recommend an excellent Malbec to pair with the steak, so maybe I'll bump up to 3.5 stars. We ordered the ribeye for 2 and veal bread for appetizer. Veal was amazing soft n fatty. Ribeye was not so good it was tough and bland, it didnt feel like eating ribeye it was hard and had a lot of ligaments as you will see in the pic. i have made better ribeyes at home. What a wonderful find, in a place filled with tapas and jamon and then more tapas and jamon. I mean, we needed a steak, and Patagonia knocked it out of the park. Like, I need to plan a trip to Argentina for a steak, out of the park. It's a nice restaurant that had I not been a tourist, I would have felt underdressed in my shorts, tee and sneakers. But, all diners were dressed that way, so I didn't feel out of place. We started with the empanadas, which are a flavorful start. For salads, it is a straightforward salad bar where you serve yourself. My boyfriend ordered the bife chorizo (sirloin) with a pepper sauce and I did the Lomo (filet) with mushrooms to top. There was a snafu with us receiving the wrong steaks and thus putting the wrong toppings on them (BF is medium well steak and hates mushrooms and I'm a rare steak gal). The waiter was amazing and whisked them away to correct. It is that sort of treatment that makes a restaurant stand out. Once we received the correct steaks, they were divine. Amazing flavor and cooked to perfection. The mushroom topping for mine had a variety of mushrooms with a rich sauce. Evidently my boyfriend really liked his - when I finally looked up from hoovering my steak, he was also done with his. We did accompany the meals with a bottle of Malbec, which was wonderful and a perfect partner to the steaks and meal. Last - but definitely not least - was dessert. Dulce de leche stuffed pancake with ice cream. Yes, you read that right. Oh. My. Delicious. Sweet ice cream with warm pancakes. If you're in Barcelona and need a steak you just must go here. About average for the price you pay. The service was fantastic and the food was good but you certainly pay for it. An average sized Argentinian rib eye or tenderloin for one will run you more than 30€. I highly recommend getting the Argentinian sausage as an appetizer. That was by far the best part of the meal. The chimichurri was delicious and definitely added another level of flavor to the meats. Great selection of wine and the interior is very classy and well decorated. We really wanted to eat at the highly praised Argentinian steakhouse Parrilla Alfonsina but reservations were completely booked for the night. We feel that Patagonia is an "upper casual" restaurant, though still classy enough a for a romantic dinner. You might want to ask to get seated at one of the quiet areas as the main room can tend to be quite busy with large parties. I'm a carnivor with a capital C so I ordered my meat just slightly singed, which was exactly what arrived on my plate with lovely greens and a deliciously rich, though slightly bitter sauce. At first glance you might think that your portion is too small and get tempted to rush order more side dishes, but everything is so rich and full of flavours that you'll be quite content come dessert. Of course there's always room for dessert, so... The staff is very friendly and fairly fluid in English, the latter which is not always to be taken for granted when visiting Catalonia. As my boyfriend and I wanted a romantic full course dinner before leaving Barcelona, we thought the serving pace of the courses was a tad bit high. We're fast eaters, tall and big guys that we are, but the whole thing was done in little over an hour, so the kitchen might have spaced out the servings a bit more. On the upside: more time for sangria afterwards! All in all this is a great restaurant if you're looking for a break from the outdoorsy parade of patatas bravas and fried shrimps. Unsurprisingly from the name, it favors Argentine cuisine (although the area of Patagonia does extend to southern Chile). So starters include empanadas, divinely flakey with savory meat fillings and a trio of sauces to try. The Malbec selection is laudable, and you can get a couple of good ones by the glass. The Lomo (beef loin) melts in your mouth. Ambiance is not terribly impressive, but you don't go there to look but to eat. It's not a Texas Steakhouse; it's more sophisticated than that. The menu is of course primarily beef oriented, and there are are some interesting combin menus - unfortunately only at luch time. Excelente from beginning to end. Great service and food and I will definitely come back next time I am in Barcelona. The sampler of empanadas were "home made" fresh and all very tasty (one cheese and onion, one beef, one ham and cheese, and one corn). The bread was served with an Argentinian oil sauce on the side that was very good, flavor I had not had elsewhere and would love to have again. I ordered the sirloin with potato (with a whipped cheese topping - absolutely delicious!!!) and the grilled vegetables (nothing to speak of here, grilled vegetables are grilled vegetables. However, they included a variety and part of a potato with the grilled vegetables side). For desert I had the raspberry tartlet which was also very good. Two thumbs up! read more

My husband made reservations about a month in advance for my birthday dinner while on vacation in Barcelona. We had a reservation at 9pm and arrived at the restaurant at 9:03pm. We were seated soon after by a gentleman who at the time seemed nice but very flustered and confused. He walked us to the back of the restaurant and then walked us back to the front of the restaurant and made a table for us. He came over and brought the menu and went off to serve other patrons. We sat there for 30 minutes, while being completely ignored. No water or bread or anything for that matter was brought to our table. As our patience continued to wear thin, the gentleman then came over to our table and told us that the credit card machine was not working and if we wanted to dine there, we would need to pay cash. He only spoke to us, not any of the other patrons who were already seated. There were two ladies next to us who hadn't ordered anything yet, and yet he never addressed them about this issue; just us. We told him that we didn't have that much cash as we are traveling and don't like to carry around that much cash. He then essentially told us that if we didn't have cash, then we couldn't dine there. This is after we rushed back to our hotel to get ready for dinner in order to make it to this reservation, spent 15 euros in cab fare and sat there ignored and unserved for 30 minutes! And what about the other patrons who were already seated; Why weren't they asked to leave? How were they going to pay? It's 2016 after all and most people use cards! Why would we travel with nearly 200+ euros in cash for dinner in a city packed with pickpockets??? My husband and I have travelled extensively and this trip was by far the worst customer service experience! I would never in a million years recommend this restaurant. To treat people in this shameful manner is completely unacceptable. We ended up taking another cab back to our hotel, then took another cab to a restaurant called cera23 where we were treated with dignity and good customer service.
