I have been referred to Patane a number of times over the past few years , most recently for leg and back issues and I just realized I never took the time to recognize all of the staff for their kindness over the years taking care of my various issues and working with the insurance companies who can be very difficult to deal with. I know the Office Manager and therapist spend time getting this all approved. I'd like to especially thanks my current therapist Brita who has been patiently working on my knee and back issues for several months off and on . She took over my case when my insurance Cigna became difficult on who was allowed to provide therapy. So she is qualified. Regardless of how busy she is, never fails to greet you cheerfully, checks to see how you are feeling and listens to any specific issues and works on them. She provided tips for homework and very easy finish instructions for exercises. Also no matter how busy she watches each of her patients and makes sure exercises are being done properly and heat and ice are provided. And never fails to say goodbye . I definitely leave better than when I arrive I can definitely recommend this facility and Brita in particular. Located in Reston off of Fox Mill. Very convenient parking. I have been seeing Steve Patane for several months. I came to him about 3 months after both of my legs had been broken. By that time I was able to walk unassisted, but it was very painful, I was not able to use my legs or feet normally, and I had a terrible limp. It has now been a year since my injuries. I am able to do hikes now (just did one 3.5-mile hike on Sat, and a 5.5-mile walk on Sunday). I have observed Steve Patane over the past several months exhibit consistent unsurpassed professionalism and skillful expertise. Steve Patane and his associates have taken professional care of me and my wife for decades. They know exactly what they are doing - by the book. They have treated my wife's shoulder, knee, and ankle. He has worked my knees, back and lower spine. Superb treatment! I'm almost finished with my lower spine treatment, and it's been fantastic series of treatment. In short: See Lois, get better, do amazing things! I was diagnosed with several injuries to my left arm/shoulder while living in Columbus, Ohio, including rotator tendinopathy, ulnar neuropathy, and a potential labral tear. After moving to VA, I was referred for PT by my orthopedic surgeon. I did some research, found Patane & Associates and chose them because of all the great reviews. I am so thankful for it! I hope no one ever needs PT, but if you do, I highly recommend Lois from Patane & Associates. LOIS: As I said, Lois is my physical therapist. I have been seeing her three times a week for 2 months, a long enough duration to come to a knowledgable conclusion regarding a health care provider. Bottom line, she's truly fantastic. There is no cognizable, identifiable reason as to why Lois hasn't had a review yet, so here is to correcting that and any misguided notions that she is anything less than a truly amazing physical therapist. First, Lois is attentive and kind. She's also a very no nonsense, no fluff, "let's get to work so you start feeling better" type of physical therapist. I'm not always the most compliant patient, and she calls me out on it which I'm thankful for as it reduces my noncompliant tendencies. I've been through PT for these injuries in Ohio, and was babied through my exercises. Lois is always there to support me, she always ensures that I'm not in pain when exercising, but she also doesn't hesitate to push me, which I think has truly helped me succeed in my PT program. Secondly, not only am I not compliant sometimes, but I'm also accident prone. I was in a car accident re-injuring my shoulder and neck only a month into my PT prescription. Without hesitation, question, or doubt, Lois calmed me AND my injuries down, reassured me that things would be alright, and adjusted my treatment and exercises so that I could get back on track toward recovery. Thirdly, over 24+ PT sessions later with Lois, my outlook on whether I will need shoulder surgery in the short-term has changed dramatically. Prior to PT with her, I was hopeful that PT would work, but doubtful. Now, with Lois help and guidance, I have no doubt that I will be abstaining from surgery. My shoulder, while not perfect yet, is noticeably stronger, my range of motion vertically, horizontally, and rotationally, has improved dramatically. And, much to my mother's delight, my posture has improved as well. Bonus: from exercising diligently at least 3x p/week, I've lost weight and feel great! Bottom line, I would recommend Lois to anyone who needs PT. She is to the point and direct, but honestly, I prefer it. I don't want to be coddled when it comes to my medical care. When it comes to addressing a serious medical issue, I want someone dependable and strong helping me down that path, and Lois is exactly that person. THE OFFICE: As with many PT offices, Steve and Lois, I haven't met Marge, see more than one patient at a time. But as another reviewer said, please do not let that deter you from seeing them. There is always someone on the floor (usually one of the PTs or Melissa) keeping a watchful eye on the patients, and who is always willing to help when needed. Not only are the staff great, but the other patients are also sweet, sociable people, who are happy to chat and provide encouragement. It's almost like you form a PT family/support group with the patients and staff. The office is a large open floor plan with 3 tables in the main room, and then 3 separate treatment rooms. The equipment is up-to-date and is always kept neat and clean. Jean is fantastic with billing! This is the first time with any PT office that I have not had a problem with my insurance, or copays, which is a stress reliever that allows me to focus on my recovery. read more

After a few months of neck and shoulder pain I was referred by my doctor to have PT. Patane PT is the practice I choose and I am thrilled fate took me there. The treatment rooms are clean and have a calming decor. The equipment is up to date and in good working order, which is not always the case. Marge was my physical therapist and I have renamed her to "miracle woman"! She is extremely attentive to your problems. I was impressed by the detailed history that she did on my first visit much more complete than most physicians do. She does passive exercises and massage that not only helped my neck but she cured my headaches not even related to my diagnosis! "Miracle woman". Brita is the whole reason I like this place ! She has been an excellent PT for me - compassionate when I needed her to be but pushed me when appropriate. I would come back just for her - in fact, I probably stayed in PT too long so I could enjoy her massage therapy. Steve really does care about what he does. And he's great about it. He focuses on improvement and is super personable as well. I'm not sure this is the perfect way to describe this, but while this is still a business I've never once felt like I was a dollar sign walking in to fill a chunk of time, his devotion was to my improvement and he was always willing to go the extra mile for it and push me to do more. All of the fantastic reviews below made me feel like going to Patane and Associates was a no brainer for my physical therapy. However, I think I may have seen the wrong associate. I don't see Lois mentioned in any of the previous reviews and I'm starting to think I know why... I showed up early for my appointment. My insurance info was immediately taken by their assistant and I was checked in. I sat and waited until about 15 minutes PAST my appointment time before anyone else spoke to me. Lois came up and said basically, "are you in a hurry? We're behind." No apology, just kind of deal with it. I told her I was on my lunch break from work... so yes... kind of. Her response, "Ok... I'll try to get to you." She finally came over to me slightly 30 minutes past my start time again... with no apology and started my exam/exercises. By the end of my hour long session I thought OK, maybe I can get past the rude start and continue to come here. I made an appointment for later in the week and left. However, when I got in my car and looked at the clock I realized that Lois had not only started my session half an hour late.... she hadn't kept me half an hour late she had shorted my session!! So, I called and cancelled my next appointment. Just got my bill and guess what... full charges all the way around. read more

Lois Blush is fantastic! She is no nonsense but very efficient and thorough. My daughter started seeing her for her ankle and Lois didn't like what the doctor told us and encouraged me to go for a second opinion to Dr. Neufeld. So glad we did because he was awesome and knew right what to do. My daughters bone graph surgery was very successful and Lois helped her get mobility back where she can swim again! I had a partial hip replacement and I was recommended to Steve. He was booked and it was our mistake to be assigned to Marge. I dont believe Marge had the experience to treat cancer patients. I explained to her that I was off my feet for over 6 months and anybody will agree that the lack of activity plus the hip replacement surgery it was traumatic on my body and the recovery will take quite some time...anybody will agree on that. Marge did not understand this and while I appreciate it she wanted me to walk in 4 weeks, it was impossible. She put me on a set of excercises that were not feasible and the pain was extreme/ intense. The pain was due to too much excercise but she believed it was to the return of cancer (which is absurd because I just finished my chemo). I had a MRI showed that everythign was on track -no tumors. And she insisted on Xrays. I went back to my surgeon and he suggested I rested for 2 weeks. I rested to 2 weeks, the pain was gone and I changed PTs. Oh what a change!! The new PT is knowledgeable. She measures me every week (which never was done at Patane's). The new PT works me on excercises that I dont do at home...With Patane's team, there was not a difference in the excercies at home or at the office. I almost see no point going or staying at home. If you have a minor case, then go here, they will probably know the basics. If you have a complex case, like mine, please do your research and interview your PT whether they have managed similar cases before, what is the success rate, do they measure you, will it be an aid with your exercises at the therapy? I learned a big lesson once again. Never assume, always ask ..... On the admin part, they were friendly and always accomodated my schedule. Unfortunately the PT did not work for me. I got in a car accident with bad whiplash and went to Patane & Assoc. based on these reviews and because it was close by and I am SO glad I went. I was appointed, Marge, who is petite like me but strong and with a gentle touch. My neck was so bent out of shape and I also had a prior vertebrae fracture so I was very apprehensive about any touching me, but neck's are her specialty I think, although I saw her other patients had everything from hip to feet to knee issues, and we all would come out smiling out of our appointments. The place is like an open space plan with three private rooms and exercise equipment in the main areas. She is very sensitive to your needs and starts with you in the private rooms as she realizes probably as a newcomer you want some private time before healing in the main room. I took all her advise and am so glad I did because I am as good as new by the time I finished 5 weeks later. I started out seeing her 3x a week and then it was down to 2x and finally once a week the last two weeks. She has the magic touch and doesn't keep you there for weeks on end if you don't have to which I find very reassuring since it's really about making sure we rehabilitate. I was so worried she wouldn't "fix" me but she did and I am very thankful. She is easy to talk to and really knows her stuff! I consider her to be a natural healer, and if I ever know of anyone with PT needs, I would without a doubt recommend Marge. read more
