I was amazed at how massive this location of Patel Bros is, making it well organized and neat. The amount of produce variety as well as packaged snacks was astounding. The check-out process was quick with a bagger helping. And the prices can't be beat! One tip: some staff were more helpful/ knowledgeable than others. 06/17/25 - Patel Brothers on Milwaukee Ave near Golf Mill This is not my first time here or writing a review for this location but somehow reviews seem to disappear. As the name suggests it's an Indian Grocery store loaded w/aisles of groceries & Indian products. Most of the merchandise I'm not very familiar w/but I did buy a packaged Tandori mix that I'm going to experiment with. The box called for garlic ginger paste? Sounds like good ingredients to start with. We stopped in briefly but didn't really have very much time to peruse the store. I will come back sometime during a weekday when I'm hoping the store won't be so busy & I will have a little more time to explore some of the products. There are several Patel Brothers in the Chicagoland area besides this one. There's one on Devon home of many Indian stores & restaurants. There's also one in Schaumburg. Patel Brothers is a must-visit if you love Indian food or just want to explore new flavors. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the rich aroma of spices, and the produce selection is full of unique finds--today I even spotted fresh dates. I picked up karela (bitter melon), paneer, a savory pastry, and a tub of kulfi (ice cream). I was hoping for ras malai (sweet spongy cheese dessert) in a larger size, so that'll be for next time. This is the cleanest, brightest grocery I've ever been inside of. It smells wonderful too, thanks to the deli. There is one entire row of Indian snacks, which is why I visited. Another shopper stopped and offered their opinions, which was very nice. We don't have the same tastes, though. Next time I'll know to stick with Haldiram's treats. I came here earlier this week because I needed to restock some spices that are only sold here. The location on Devon is closer to where I live, but it doesn't have a parking lot and so I'll drive a bit farther to this location for ease of parking. They were out of a few things that I was looking for (frozen gooseberries and powdered amla), but hopefully they'll be restocking. They did have the main spices/seeds I was looking for, so I got most of what I needed. Because it was a weekday morning, it was less crowded than the previous times I came here on the weekend, so I was able to leisurely stroll through the aisles more to check out all their offerings. They have so much stuff, so it's a lot to take in. I also walked around the produce section and was surprised at how great some of the deals were. They had 18oz of blueberries for $1.99, whereas Jewel sells the same brand for $5.99 for a small container (or sometimes on sale for $1.99, but about 2/3 the size). I'll definitely be adding this to my semi-regular rotation of grocery stores. read more

Indian vegan street food & vegan deserts anyone? The hidden gem to this Indian grocery store are the freshly made Indian street food like samosa, puff pastry with curry, chapati & nann. Just head straight to the back of the store. Note that the spice level is higher as it's authentic. You can also order containers of curry. Also, note that everything is vegan, including their deserts. Try their vegan deserts if your taste buds are more traditional. You will not notice any difference in their chocolate cake & cheesecake. They probably substitute vegan coconut oil for butter. Tip: A Korean grocery store & an international grocery store are within a mile radius, so you could just add Patel Bros to your trek. read more

We were in the area and were curious about what Patel Brothers was. We kept seeing signs in the parking lot saying Patel Brothers is not responsible for damage to your car from carts. I didn't know this grocery store existed. It has a deli in the back where you can get Indian treats. The store is kept clean and well stocked. It's brightly lit and I spent some time just walking up and down the long aisles to see what was available. They have so many different Indian spices and things I'm looking for when I make Indian food so this is nice to know I can find it here. Ended up picking up some new snacks to try because everything looked delicious. The pricing wasn't too bad especially for produce in comparison to where I usually shop. read more

I was shopping for items to make Saag paneer and Patel Brothers was the perfect place to find what I need. It's a big store carrying a vast amount of Indian grocery items and housewares. I go on occasion to snag their Swad brand packaged spices. Patel Brothers also sells grab and go food found in the back of the store. Patel Brothers in Niles is a huge, very clean store with lots of fresh veggies & fruit from India & probably the US too. The staff is helpful & kind. The selection of refrigerated, frozen & dry goods is extensive ( one whole aisle devoted to snacks!) & they also have a limited selection of food to go. read more

Patel Brothers grocery store has always been my favorite place to go for getting Indian food, snacks and general groceries (spices, condiments, etc.). Before they opened the Niles location, I used to go to their Schaumburg one. That place felt small and crowded compared to this one even though this location isn't quite big per say and also tends to be crowded. Also, this location is relatively closer to me than the Schaumburg one. Thus, I like going here more. I have usually found what I have been looking for and then some. I go to P B to get ready made food, snacks and frozen dishes. I like browsing through their isles to find something that I haven't seen or had before. Come Indian festivals and holidays, I tend to go get sweets from P B as they have a good variety at reasonable prices compared to the local mom & pop shops. I recommend going here to any one who likes to have Indian food and groceries. They carry a good variety of items and prices are usually not bad. Check them out if you haven't before. read more

Great grocery store bringing all your Indian grocery needs in one place. The spice aisle is definitely worth perusing, and their produce prices are reasonable. I love the warm food area in the back where they sell samosas and kathi rolls. I tried a variety of their rolls and they were all delicious. They sell so many different spices, if you like chai I would recommend their chai spice mix (only $1.99!). I usually heat some milk with black tea - also purchased at Patel brothers, add some of the spice mix, strain and serve. Making chai becomes almost as simple as making hot cocoa. They carry so many products you won't find at any other grocery store. I recently was looking for custard powder for a recipe and was not able to find it anywhere until I checked here where they not only had it, but also 4 different brands of it. The same goes for other products such as tapioca flour and all their different spices. Some tips/notes, if you don't want to use the busy front entrance or checkouts, park in the back! There is an entrance next to AutoZone off of Golf and a parking lot behind the AutoZone for Patel Brothers patrons. Perusing the aisles of ethnic grocery stores is fun and also educational. Neither my Missus nor any of my current foodie friends share my enjoyment of the flavorful cuisines of India and Pakistan, so I was pretty much on my own here. The vast produce department offers an amazing variety of familiar and exotic fruits and veggies at down-to-earth prices. A refrigerated case across the aisle is neatly stocked with an array of colorful but sometimes bewildering dessert items (chocolate barfi, anyone?). The grocery aisles are canyons amid towering walls of sacks and cartons filled with rice, beans, lentils, spices, nuts, and other staples. Many items are imported, but here and there I spotted a few familiar things like Kraft Mac & Cheese. For me, though, the main attraction is Patel's Fresh Kitchen, a service counter with tantalizing displays of prepared foods and bakery items. I stocked up on paneer puffs, buns, and samosas with various fillings. These cost an average of $1.00 apiece; two pieces make a tasty, filling lunch. All were wayyy too spicy for my Missus, but to my taste buds they were a kaleidoscopic experience. There is only the one service counter at this store and the server didn't know much English, so I had to point and gesture. The store is immaculately clean and bright. To vegetarians and organic shoppers, it's nirvana. Apart from a few Fresh Kitchen and freezer items, this store does not sell meat or fish (fresh halal and zabiha meat and poultry are available at a nearby Fresh Farms, though). read more

My first trip to Indian store in 2020... needed to stock up on basics for next year. This particular location is gigantic and probably opened earlier this year, never been here so needed time understanding the aisles. i have not seen so many native fresh Indian veggies in many decades ... veggies I have forgotten all about like fresh drumsticks, green leafy veggies , different kinds of gourds etc. Wasn't too impressed with the savory snacks made locally. I've been greatly anticipating the opening of Patel brothers in the northern burbs for a while. I once visited a location out in Naperville and Also Shaumburg/Hoffman Estates. And found the freshly baked chapati (think soft fluffy tortillas yummy warm awesomeness). This was the first time I tried the hot food, it didn't seem that popular at the time we shopped as it was about 4pm and largely the food was untouched in the hot food section. The staff behind the deli counter knew that I was a newb for sure so they guided me to get some delicious freshly made chapati with garlic. I told them I'm familiar with the chapati and was the main reason I checked out this Patel Brothers. I had no idea what I ordered but I think it was an eggplant dish and a paneer (cottage cheese) dish. The spice level was not crazy like I've had before, my little girls liked it alot. After a long while, this big name Indian grocer has finally opened near us and it has apparently been since Thursday, October 3, and unbeknownst to us til today.  So it's been just about a week, and we must have missed whatever ads there were.   We simply noticed cars in the lot and lights on as we coincidentally passed by tonight and dropped in.  They are located in a refurbished Toys R Us store and the new and attractive store layout and the triangular shaped parking lot feels plentiful and adequate (having shopped at Toys R Us in past, we were concerned for them!).  But then again we were there on a Wednesday night at 30 minutes before closing, so customers will find out eventually how their prime time parking situation is.  It's nice to have this large ethnic grocer nearby and as you might expect, all of the products are very Indian centric (and nicely so) as is the customer base.  There are also more employees per customer floating around than I think I have seen at any other grocer it seems, but then again maybe it's just that their bright green store outfits simply catch the eye more impressionably. The same was true of the flagship Patel Brothers store on Devon Ave that we have on occasion also stepped into in the past.  There is a lot of inventory on display, and mostly it seems dry and frozen products, and fresh produce, and not much in the way of meats, just saying.  The aisles are all pretty much the entire length of the store as there is no midway crossover, so pick your aisles carefully if you're lazy.  We'll revisit for a better look at some point soon, but tonight we just picked up some chappati Indian flatbread and a bag of Swag whole raw cashews ($14.99 for 28 oz).  I used to bring these back regularly from numerous past business trips to India and loved these, but they're nearly not as cheap here!  Anyway, welcome to the neighborhood Patel Brothers. read more

I was pretty excited for Patel Brothers to open and it hasn't disappointed yet. We have stopped by to investigate new (to us!) foods, desserts, and snacks - especially those last two! This grocery store is on-par with Assi or H-Mart if you're familiar with those, except catering to Indian and Middle-Eastern tastes. I can highly recommend getting the freshly baked samosas! This location has really poor customer service and they sell expired food. Check the label before you buy because they do not honor a return when they are at fault for selling expired foods in the first place. The woman was extremely rude, did not listen or apologize or take any accountability. She just talked over me. Spice/ Masala Heaven! This place has it ALL! They have a ton of fresh veggies, a fresh snack bar, and aisles and aisles of spices, snacks, lentils, and grains! It's hard to walk in this place and not buy something. Each section has signage along the aisle so it is easy to find what you are looking for. Though the employees tend to keep to themselves, I cannot comment on the customer service as I had a list of items I needed and was able to find everything I need. Checkout was a breeze, very quick. I recommend the paneer samosas from the fresh food bar! Delish! There is tons of parking around the building. Highly recommend this place! This review is very specific to their store made rotis at Niles store(they label it as "homemade") We have been shopping at their Devon store for 14 years and at Niles since it has opened. So we know the quality of their product for a long time. Lately their Niles store has been rather disappointing. Sometimes regular rotis look like they are made out of maida flour. One look at it, and you know! Organic and whole wheat rotis can be hit or miss. Sometimes they genuinely contain whole wheat or organic flour and other times, they do NOT. Very often in the past few weeks, one can sense the mixing of other flours (probably soy) in whole wheat rotis. Some customers might notice this and some may not. But eventually, it will catch up! You can fool some people all the time and all people some time but you can't fool all the people all the time! Please come up with a standard formula for your organic and whole wheat rotis with genuine ingredients and please stick to it! read more
