    Scheduled an A/C tune-up with Advantage Air after a competitor (Nexgen) completely failed to appear…read morea week prior for the same job. The tech from Advantage, Mark, was great. Showed up 15 minutes into my 2-hour service window and before he set a foot inside my house, put covers over his boots which my carpets greatly appreciated. Did a thorough inspection of my furnace, air purifier filter, and A/C unit before cleaning the A/C. Said everything was healthy for an older system and didn't try to bullshit me or insult my intelligence. Guess which HVAC company I will never contact again and which one I would.

    I called Advantage Air because my AC wasn't cooling. Their technician ran a paid diagnostic but…read morewould not open the unit, told me the refrigerant charge "seemed adequate," and proposed a coil cleaning of $545-$1,195 without ever looking into the system to see if it was dirty, to try to identify the problem. I got a second opinion. When the second company opened the system (originally installed by Advantage Air company), they found roughly two gallons of water inside the sealed refrigerant circuit, refrigerant leaking over the motor, a failed metering valve, an emergency water shut-off that wasn't connected and an unsecured exhaust line -- all documented with photos and video. The coil wasn't dirty; the system was contaminated and improperly sealed. I'd encourage anyone to get a second opinion before authorizing an expensive "cleaning," and to insist the technician show you what they're diagnosing. This system has only ever been worked on by Advantage Air. The system is basically new; it's eight years old. I purchased this home three years ago.

I did my homework and reached out to a few contractors, including Gominisplit, to collect some quotes. I met with several other contractors, who did not show up to estimate appointments, were blatantly rude, and tried to upsell me things I did not need. Jose was a gem. He responded quickly to my inquiry and was punctual for my home walkthrough as well as all visits thereafter. He made sound recommendations and provided a competitive and fair estimate. I hired him because he was honest and easy to work with. He speaks English and Spanish, which was helpful because my dad speaks Spanish and he's the one who mainly coordinated with Jose. He worked very quickly with one other person and had our three bedrooms and living room area up and running in a couple of days. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs minisplits for their home. I'm sleeping nice and cool these days and we're ready for the summer!

We moved forward with the fix, and it worked fine, and then it didn't. After a few more visits, and some more parts and tinkering, it finally started working properly. Although it was a strange and difficult situation, they stuck to it until the problem was resolved. The techs Danny and Mark went above and beyond to make sure everything was good. Another thing to add, the way the company communicated back and forth with me was great. They answered every call and every text. Most of the time I spoke with Stacey and she was great. Given her advanced age of 90, her discomfort with the warm air became increasingly pronounced. Today, in collaboration with my brother-in-law, we investigated the issue. We observed that while the unit appeared to be functioning, it was not producing cool air, despite the outdoor fan operating correctly. During our investigation, we contacted the service provider, Thomson. A representative stated that only the thermostat had been replaced and that a service technician could be dispatched for a fee of $159, suggesting a potential wiring issue. Upon reviewing the Honeywell thermostat instructions and wiring diagram, we identified that the thermostat had been incorrectly wired to the "W" terminal. After rectifying this wiring error, the air conditioning unit resumed normal operation, producing cool air. I subsequently contacted Thomson for clarification regarding the initial service. Their response repeatedly referenced a previous replacement 14 months prior. While their online reviews are predominantly five-star, our experience suggests a lack of professionalism. This incident raises concerns about the necessity of recommended services and the quality of workmanship, potentially indicating errors or intentional oversights during the initial installation.
