This past December, my 73 year old floor furnace would not ignite and warm the house. I called AAA Calvert to come out and check the furnace and thermostat. The representative on the phone was very polite and friendly. She set up an appointment for me very quickly. On appointment day, Scott arrived quite promptly. Scott was very polite, friendly and professional. He thoroughly inspected the furnace and thermostat and diagnosed the problem very quickly. Fortunately, I did not need to replace the furnace. Within a few days, Scott returned and replaced the necessary parts and installed a new thermostat. I waited a couple of months to see how well the furnace operated during these winter months. Now, I am pleased to announce that everything works perfectly. Scott, and AAA Calvert, receive superior marks. I gave AAA Calvert five stars last year, but have to revisit after my most recent experience. First Adam came out and determined that our fan had broken, possibly damaging the motor, and that he also needed to check the coolant level. He ordered the new fan and motor on the phone while I was with him, so I expected we'd soon be cooled down. I don't want to get too far in the weeds, but ultimately it took four visits and nine days for techs to come out and replace the fan and the motor. They did take $500 off the price, and they were very nice about everything, but unfortunately they forgot to check the coolant level, so the AC was only marginally cooler than the outdoor air. Rather than complaining again, I just called my brother-in-law (who is also in the HVAC business). He found that it was light 4 lbs. of coolant, which he replaced, and now the system is running properly again. But it took almost two weeks during the hottest stretch of the year. I think AAA Calvert is a good business, and I hope this is a learning experience for them. read more

On March 10th, Tom gave me a verbal estimate of $500 to $1,200 for a leak test and about $3,000 for an evaporator coil replacement, if needed, with an offset for the leak test cost. On March 23rd I received a written estimate for a coil replacement of $5,350. The estimate didn't even include new refrigerant. There was no offset for the leak test cost. What a ripoff, in my opinion. Scott called me a few days later and I told him I was going to go with a completely new system with a certified Lennox dealer. I subsequently received a bill for the leak test of $1,500, which was higher than the $1,200 upper end verbal estimate. Total ripoff, in my opinion. Trying to take advantage of a senior citizen, I guess. I've used Calvert for electrical work in the past and received quality service at a fair price. However, I will no longer be using Calvert for any future work, after this AC job. Today is May 5th and the clowns still haven't bothered to pick up their 3 pressure gauges. read more

Needed a 240 outlet for new stove. Researched and thought this company had good reviews and license checked out. First red flag... took almost 2 weeks to get someone out to give an estimate. The guy that came was on time and very nice and knowledgeable . He said we'd have the quote that afternoon (thur) and they should be able to do the job the next week (Sep 2-9th). Didn't receive the quote, called Friday they said we'd receive the quote by 6 PM that day. 3 day weekend called Tuesday at 4PM they said the quote had just been sent at 3:40. Finally received quote, approved the quote called first thing Wednesday to schedule. soonest they could do it was sep 16. Sooo very disappointed at their lack of customer service and commitment. In the middle of a cold wave our heater went out. We were serviced the next day, and they had to replace a part they didn't have in stock. They replaced it the following day with a new part that was apparently defective. It worked for a day and a half, then stopped. My home was 60 years old when I decided a new electrical main was needed to keep up with today's electronic world. I checked with McNally's asking for a recommendation, and they suggested AAACalvert. Well, I could NOT be any happier. CJ, the owner, came by to see the job and make his estimate. He is a friendly fellow and knows his trade well. His crew came on a Wednesday at 8:30 AM and worked all day, removing the stucco, checking out the existing circuitry, preparing everything for the "day without power." The team, three guys, headed by Eddie, was very professional. Eddie told me what they were doing, notified me when they went to lunch, worked very well together, and, more importantly, they were very well mannered and took great care not to get stucco pieces/dust in the pool which was adjacent to the box. Before they departed, everything was cleaned up spotless. Except for the busted out stucco, you would not know they had been there! Thursday the box got replaced. They asked if I wanted power for anything in the house, including the refrigerators, and I said no. At 9:30 AM power was cut, the three guys worked like demons all day (no lollygagging around), and at 6:00 PM, power was restored and I was up and running. CJ dropped by for a bit in the mid-morning to check in and see if the team needed anything. They did, an extra person to help with the pool wiring! When doing the job, they determined the pool heater/pump, and lighting was not originally done properly. They took the time to GFI protect the pool lighting, ran the extra wiring to assure the pool/heater and wiring was up to code. When the job was done, the place was spotless, all the remains were gone, and everything worked beautifully. AAACalvert is a first class organization, their employees work hard and are very polite! Eddie, the team leader, is a jewel. He took time to help me understand the old circuits in the house as well as the new ones.
